If ever you want to surprise guests for your next big formal event, tell them to meet you behind the Citgo at 3333 Frederick Avenue and watch their faces. I was invited to an engagement celebration here this past weekend and must have passed the place a half dozen times before I realized that this WAS the place: a cinder-block of a building behind a Citgo gas station. I’ll be honest, as I parked, I didn’t have high hopes of what kind of banquet hall I would find inside. I mean, I don’t normally make it a habit hanging out in the back of gas stations, so this was a first. Imagine my surprise when I stepped in an saw a very expansive banquet hall(capacity had to be 500 or more) with crystal chandlers and the back wall lined with a huge buffet line and professional waitstaff. There is definitely a lot more than meets the eye with the Potter’s Place. If you can deal with the odd gas-station-attached location and if your guests aren’t too stuck up to get with it, check it out. There was plenty of room for eating, dancing, and mingling — proving it’s what’s on the inside that matters… even when it comes to buildings.
