This place is great! They make the best home fries I’ve had in years! The décor is classic diner, the staff is efficient and friendly, and the food is really good, and very reasonably priced.

I was working at the Convention Center this week and needed a close and quiet place to eat breakfast. Werner’s was a perfect location, easy walk to and from the convention center and offered some nice privacy that the general downtown area does not offer. The space is really a jem because as soon as you walk through the doors you go back in time. Everything looks authentically old without the traditional dinginess associated with similar places. The space was clean and lovely and made us feel right at home. The service and the food were great. We were taken very good care of by our server who regularly checked in on us and fill up our coffee cups, even after the check was delivered. The food was great. I always appreciate a place that can make a good oatmeal. Working on the road I can only eat so much from the grille and a nice hearty bowl of oatmeal is sometimes what I need but have a hard time finding on the road. My friend go the pancakes and bacon and she was very pleased.

WHERETHEFRIEDCHIKNSAMMICHYOUBEENALLMYLIFE, WERNER’S?!? But seriously, this little diner made this little diner very happy today. Skipping breakfast had me hangry by noon, and I had one thing in mind: battered chicken with LTM on a buttery bun. Browsing around my trusty Unilocal app, I had a lightbulb moment: my work friend had mentioned that a place on the corner of Redwood and Guilford had a solid lunch, so I zipped out the door to check it out. 1 minute of browsing the menu had me sold: The Ridiculous Chicken Sandwich. This bad boy consists of a tender, juicy chicken breast perfectly breaded and seasoned with provolone, bacon, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar on a buttered bun. I opted for mayo instead of oil and vinegar and had them hold the bacon(sacrilege, I know), and the result was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’vehad in years. Maybe… wait for it… ever. Throw some glorious seasoned waffle fries in the mix, and things get serious. Bring your appetite though, kids. It took me until 4 pm to totally make it through this decadent duo. I ordered to go, but if you have time, grab a seat and bring yo frands. Certainly not über glamorous digs, but Werner’s doesn’t need it: the food speaks for itself.

Walked over for lunch from my new office on Charles. Just moved form NY so I was happy to find an old school diner serving piping hot delicious gyro’s so close to work. I’ll definitely return, often.

I wish they would update the Unilocal site… or maybe not so it doesn’t get too busy. They are most certainly open and thriving for the lunch town crowd in Baltimore. Great sandwiches, sizeable portions and some really nice Greek specialties. I have to limit myself to one gyro a week. You’re always in and out within an hour and it’s got that 1950’s lunch counter vibe… old skewl!

fast friendly and an icon of Baltimore — love the throwback style and the breakfast — wish they had waffles but everything else was good.

In the morning, the breakfast is can’t miss. During lunch, the sandwiches, wraps and paninis are can’t miss. My favorite is the Greek Wrap, but don’t forget to add a side of sweet potato fries. Also, on the east wall of the restaurant, notice all of the posters of films/shows that have filmed here. Werner’s is a Baltimore establishment that Charm City is lucky to have back. So lucky indeed that it is the hot spot for the Who’s Who of Baltimore.

REOPENED! Just dined there for lunch and the interior has been redone while retaining the old school diner feel. They’ve added a few Greek dishes to the menu. My dining companion had the chicken souvlaki wrap(chicken gyro, basically) which looked excellent; large portion. I had the Dolmathes and a side Greek salad. Didn’t need the salad; the Dolmathes were huge and delicious. Service was excellent, albeit a touch on the hovering side. I’d rather have more attention than less anyday, though! Will definitely return, and soon. Glad this Baltimore institution has been revived.

Last trip to B’more in September, I found that the place was closed and a for lease sign was in the window. The atmosphere was a flash back to a simpler time and I always remembered the scenes from«The Wire» that were filmed there. Too bad if it has closed forever.

Werner’s is the perfect lunch spot if you love Baltimore and all of it’s quirkiness. There’s always a hot and fresh daily lunch special. Great side options in the veggies include corn, applesauce and peas. The food is standared diner fare served old school Baltimore style. Lunch is quick here and easy to do in 45 minutes or less. I’ve been several times and find it’s a great place to introduce people to Baltimore. I wish it were open on the weekends as I love the breakfast most of all.

I was recently visiting Baltimore and was looking for a local place to grab breakfast one morning. On the advice of other Unilocalers, I visited Werner’s. It’s definitely old-school! When you walk in, you feel like you’re in another era. when diners were in their heyday. I was the only customer in the restaurant(about 11am on a Friday) and was told to sit anywhere. There were 2 people eating at the counter, who I later noticed were other employees. One of these ladies yelled to the back«HEY! You have a table!!», so then another waitress came over to greet me. I decided to go with the classic BLT sandwich– always a good bet in a diner. The waitress that was serving me walked behind the counter, briefly rinsed her hands(not washed) and then started making my sandwich. Now, I’ve waited tables before, so I know how it goes and I tried my best to ignore this. Then, one of the employees who had been eating at the counter walked over to where my sandwich was being prepared and proceeded to cough without covering her mouth. That, I cannot ignore. Given the above mentioned issues, I picked at my sandwich. It was alright– nothing to get excited about. The bacon was cold, fatty, and hard to chew… definitely leftover. The chips that came with the sandwich were the crumbs from the bottom of a Lay’s bag, literally– I watched her dump them onto my plate. Maybe they saw me and I had«tourist» written all over me and so I got the bottom of the barrel service. Who knows. Regardless, simple sanitary rules were broken.

The scent of old school power lunches lingers! The only thing that has changed are the droves of white shoed Alex Brownites displaced by executive greed. The ageless servers have a great attitude, and the kitchen dishes out fast quality grub. Unless you are ready to plunk down $ 20 at Ms. Shirleys, this is a no brainer for the best downtown weekday breakfast. You must try Werners if you are downtown, hon.
