This place is a GEM. All local, fresh, made from scratch, with a nod to Baltimore history. I wish the hours were broader and the décor a little hipper. But the menu is excellent and the prices are reasonable. Its an important historic landmark, too.

(06/06/2012) Love that they’ve kept a few of the old classics from the original WIE, like what’s now called the Consigner’s Sampler: tomato aspic(like a Bloody Mary jello shot minus the vodka); deviled eggs(a little kick from dry mustard); and homemade pickles(clovey, not too sweet, more sour and onion-y). Also, tried the Bridge Club Sampler, a crock of 3 of the most popular sides: broccoli casserole(rich yet light in texture broccoli in a cheesey and eggy filling), sweet potato casserole(thankfully not too sweet, plenty of pecans), mac ‘n’ cheese(the baked kind, somewhat dry). The plate of gratis biscuits were crumbly, touch dry, hint of cheese. The Asparagus and Goat Cheese Salad had some nice fresh spears of roasted asparagus with snowy white blobs of of chevre on field greens with a tart vinaigrette. The Chicken Salad sandwich on toasted sourdough was a solid specimen, mildly seasoned, mayonnaise-y, bit of dill, a little crunch from chopped celery. The lemon pound cake was very moist and eggy, loads of vanilla, hint of lemon, went well with the tart strawberries; a yellow cake had a very light, yet deep chocolatey, icing. Not creative, but also not meant to be; it’s just comfortable.
