The observations I have made on several occasions of the manager at the Bangor Shaw’s store, Steve Spencer, are that he is rude and unwelcoming to those that either work for him or service his store. In my experience, he appears to lack the necessary customer service skills that will earn him respect from his employees and vendors, or that will persuade customers that interact with him to come back and shop at Shaw’s instead of shopping at the 4 Hannafords in the area, or the Target or Walmart grocery departments. Overall, the employees that work the customer service desk are generally unwelcoming & unfriendly, and I can see why if their manager treats them like I have witnessed. I’d be grumpy too if my manager treated me poorly. I have observed Mr. Spencer on several occaisions behave in a discourteous and almost nasty way to his underlings, but most especially towards the vendors and reps that are working in his store– you know, those people you see from other companies who restock and straighten the products on the shelves– everyone from the greeting card companies to the wine rep– and I observed his unprofessional behavior while I was shopping there again this week. All of my experiences observing this manager show him to be dismissive, abrupt, and short-tempered, and just simply, not nice. What this manager(and Shaw’s Corporate) needs to realize, is that all the vendors and reps that service their store are also very likely their customers– and there are a lot of choices in the Bangor area on where to purchase groceries. I have lived in other areas with Shaw’s and have enjoyed shopping there for decades, and I can safely say that I have never had a negative shopping experience in any store other then in Bangor, but I typically leave the Shaw’s in Bangor wondering why I spend my money there because nobody seems glad to have my business. I have also never observed a Shaw’s manager who behaves so consistently in the off-putting way I have observed with Bangor’s Manager Steve Spencer. He really should have some additional customer service training, and perhaps some sensitivity training as well. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time I see this manager’s rude behavior, and I for one am no longer going to be boosting his numbers or sales at this store with my patronage.

I love this grocery store. It’s well-laid out, the staff is super friendly and best of all, the store smells like fresh popped popcorn. There’s a fresh seafood area where you can buy live lobsters(and other seafood stuff, yuck) a bakery, a deli meats(and fresh popcorn/tortilla chips), a pharmacy, flower stand and large produce area. With all this freshness, you almost forget about the aisles. My one gripe is that their butcher section isn’t better and the organic meat/chicken selection is lacking. But there are endless rows of aisles with organic foods and toiletries, mexican for taco night, italian for pasta night and plenty of options for baby or Fido. Plenty of variety, too. I love their MyMixx coupon saver app and check it before I run to the store. It saves me upwards of 5% on my groceries, awesome! They also have running deals where you collect stamps to earn items(this quarter we’re working on our knife sets from Cuisinart). They’re a little inefficient with packing their plastic bags(sometimes as little as one item per bag), so I try to bring in my own reuseable bags when I shop. They also have a glass and bottle recycling center, as well! I do have to comment again on how friendly and helpful their staff is! Great store!

best supermarket in bangor! after going to some other grocery stores I really appreciate the cleaniness and wide variety of selections from this market. For one, it has a very welcoming presence, it’s new, clean, and not cramped. In several instances I saw the manager going out of his way to help customers which is a good sign, and so far I’ve had great experience with the staff there.

The quality of the food, especially produce, is good. Unfortunately the quality of staff leaves a LOT to be desired. So long as you know where to look for whatever you are looking for and don’t need help from anyone you should be fine.

A nice looking grocery store that is clean and stocked with a wide selection. However the layout of their produce section is a bit odd and could use some work. It’s not bad per se, but some sections are awkward and weird where they clearly didn’t utilize the space properly. So why am I giving this place 5 stars? As an out of towner from the west coast, I didn’t have a Shaw’s membership, but no worries for me! Without hesitation the worker scanned their membership codes so I still got the deals. Isn’t that nice or what? It’s the small things that count! 5 stars for this Shaw’s Supermarket!
