Everything the other reviewers said was true– the bathroom is small, the owners are hit or miss with how chatty and helpful they are, and breakfast was tasty but might not be everyone’s taste. But finding a dog-friendly B&B was really helpful. I do wish they had more outside space for the dogs to walk or play but Bar Harbor lots are small so no harm. The location is great, you can walk to everything in Bar Harbor(which we did) and it’s not very far from Acadia, where we spent most of our time. We went in May, and the prices were pretty steep. But the owners really do know their stuff about the area, and being able to bring our dog without staying in a less-nice motel, it was overall worth it.

Tim the owner was the nicest person I’ve met in a few years. He was genuinely interested in helping us have the best experience in terms of dining, activities and breakfast in the morning. When we told him(in passing) we were interested in touring Acadia National Park, he drew us a map of the best routes, where to go and what to see. I’ve already recommended this place to friends of mine. I’d love to return! The prices were very reasonable, the food was AWESOME, the owners SOKIND, and it was in a great location for walking around town! Cutest room I’ve stayed in! I would love to return!

On a last minute trip to Bar Harbor to find this affordable gem was a score! The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the center of Bar Harbor. The inn itself was a clean, wi-fi strong, pup-friendly B&B serving up some healthy-ish breakfasts. Coming home from 6 – 7 hour hikes to complimentary diet cokes, granola bars and baked goods was a nice added touch. The room we stayed in was a bit on the smaller, or should I say the bathroom was a bit on the smaller side, but all good for the price point(about $ 150ish/per night). I think room size ranges and ours being the smallest, it was still totally fine. I expected the place to be noisy since it’s a 4 room B&B, but you know what? I didn’t really hear that much noise. The hosts, Tim and Martha are delightful and will gladly point you in the right direction of where you need to go and all that jazz. They have 1000 maps of every kind, so that’s super helpful! For dogless owners like myself, their house dogs are quite the friendliest of pups that you can play with. Just a note: your dog needs to be well behaved and not a barker for the sake of the other guests, thank you. Out of the 4 other groups we met, 2 came with their dogs and we didn’t even know! Breakfasts ranged from poached eggs on toast to a delicious blueberry cream cheese stuffed french toast. I’m pretty sure if you have some allergies you can let them know ahead of time. You do eat with other guests, so you get to meet some characters, which I like; adds to the experience. All in all, a really great spot in Bar Harbor that I highly recommend!

Cozy B and B that is also dog friendly. My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in the off season. It is dog friendly so we were able to bring our dog. She loved it and had such a fun time playing with their dog, Clinton. I would suggest if you do not like dogs then this is not the place for you. We stayed in the largest room available, the bed was very comfortable and our bathroom was a good size. They also had Free wi-fi. The only complaint is that sometimes the room got very hot and the tv was tiny. Martha and Tim, the owners, we’re very pleasant and gave us suggestions on hikes to do, places to eat, etc. Breakfast was also very good– we usually got a fruit dish, a meat dish and pancakes or French toast. Cereals, bagels and bread were always out in the morning. The tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soda selection was always available all day at no extra cost. They even made a dessert every night for us. They really went out of their way to make our visit extra special.

My boyfriend and I stayed here a little while ago for a couple nights while visiting MDI. For the most part, we were very happy with our stay here. The room was clean and comfortable and the owners were friendly and did their best to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The location is excellent as well, just steps away from Cottage St, and just a few blocks from Main St. Our biggest gripe was with the morning breakfasts which, while clearly prepared very well, did not particularly suit our tastes, and I felt that unfortunately a significant amount of her excellent food went to waste because of this(for example, I don’t eat pork and every breakfast included bacon or sausage that got thrown away). I realize its impossible to cater to everyone’s taste, and I certainly wasn’t expecting additional food to be prepared for me to replace the pork, but asking about our tastes and preferences would have avoided a lot of waste. Some of the breakfasts are a little non-traditional as well — we didn’t think to specify breakfasts taste because we generally like most breakfast foods(eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast, hashbrowns, etc). We were very surprised the first morning to be served several stalks of asparagus with two poached eggs. It seemed like it was prepared well, but again, not really what we were expecting or hoping for. A few other things that made the experience less-than-perfect or might be things for future visitors to take into consideration: The room was very small, and parts of it were a little dusty. It was hard to turn around in the bathroom with the bathroom door closed. The owners were not particularly chatty, and didn’t offer lots of advice about what to do on the island. This was partly due to the fact that we are not morning people ATALL and were not really in the mood to chat in the morning, so we made little effort to initiate conversation at breakfast, which was basically the only time we interacted with them. We also weren’t looking for advice on what to do on the island, since I grew up there, so its hard to fault them for not offering any. The dogs, while very cute and friendly, began barking around 7 am. So much for sleeping in while on holiday! Finally, the front door of the house always seems to remain unlocked, even when the owners aren’t around. That didn’t bother me too much, because I grew up in Iowa and Maine and am generally pretty trusting of people in small towns, but I could see how it would really freak out someone from a big city.

We stayed at this comfortable B&B for 4 nights in June. The owners are incredibly friendly, the room was cozy and clean, and the full breakfast each morning was delicious. I recommend Canterbury Cottage as a great place to stay right in the heart of Bar Harbor.
