cute place in bar harbor. Food was great especially after a long day spent in Acadia national park. The only downside was the long wait as there were only 2 servers in the entire restaurant…

Not sure what all the crappy reviews are about… Cute spot, great staff, delicious food, and for cheap. By chance we ended up here for dinner tonight. We hunted for Mexican food in Bar Harbor and only seemed to pull up Gringo’s. After showing up to a dark, closed restaurant with a hand scrawled note informing us that they were closed for the rest of 2015 we desperately searched for something else.(We are seafood haters staying in Bar Harbor… Um. Not easy!) After googling I found this spot. I didn’t even look at the Unilocal page for it, because frankly I didn’t care at that point. Upon entering I was psyched to see that their décor was fun, colorful, and casual. I could just tell it was my kind of place. The menu had me a little nervous because I wasn’t really sure what a lot of the ingredients were. When our waitress Katrin came to take our drink order she also asked if there were any questions about dishes or ingredients. How nice! I didn’t have to feel like a complete idiot asking :) She was so bubbly and outgoing and definitely added to our great night out. We were two adults and three kids ages 6 – 12 and we all happily ordered.(Usually at least one person in our family winds up settling or orders begrudgingly because, …kids!) I love the free order of chips and salsa. I know this seems like a given, but it’s not and some places that do it serve cold chips and jarred salsa. Jalapeños chips are hot and lightly seasoned and their salsa was perfect. Our meals came so fast and hit the spot. I love that they grill the burritos! I’m used to the typical soft, somewhat mushy wrap. Not so here. All in all I highly recommend. I believe many of these poor reviews were done early in the game(apparently they just opened this summer) and/or have been written by self-important wannabe food critics with impossible standards to meet forget exceed. Get real. You have just a couple choices for Mexican in this area and from my experience, this is a GREAT option :)

Great place for Mexican food in Bar Harbor. The food was amazing! We ordered the burrito and enchiladas, and the beef burrito is one of the best I’ve had. Both meals were great, but the burrito was absolutely the best.

First off I’d like to thank the 2 Mexican places that we looked at first for being closed, because we would’ve have found Jalapeños. Second I have no idea what restaurant most of my fellow Unilocalers were rating because I completely disagree with them. This place was fantastic. The service was fast and friendly. we were seated immediately by a super nice and attentive waiter. We order guacamole which was superb and was given complimentary salsa too. The salsa as fresh and some of the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I ordered the chorizo chimi. Best chimiconga I’ve ever had, the rice and beans were definitely made in house and had a ton of flavor. My gf had the tacos with a veggie stuffing, she raved about them for hours to the point she asked 3 times if I would go back for take out or if we could go back the next day. This place was 100% worth the trouble of fighting traffic and parking in downtown Bar Harbor on a Saturday night. A definite must visit for anyone craving good, quality Mexican in Bar Harbor.

Decided to eat here after a tour of Acadia. Wish we’d checked Unilocal first. Pros: –Nice atmosphere with really lovely décor –Excellent salsa, drinks & guacamole –Expansive drink menu with decent prices Cons: –THEFOOD. The rice was mushy and tasteless, and the meat in our tacos had no flavor Bottom line: come for margaritas and chips; have dinner elsewhere

We ate there last night. Service was slow but adequate. Chips and salsa were good. We split a chicken quesadilla which tasted very good — not much chicken in it though. Ordered guacamole which was bland, added some salt and pepper and it was marginal. Prices toward the high side for Mexican.

4.5 stars. I’m more than a fan but can’t go «as good as it gets.» I’m glad I didn’t Unilocal this place prior to our vacation. Uncertain where these reviewers eat their Mexican, but I lived in LA and now live in NYC. This place could compete there. The chips and salsa were good. My wife and I got the carne and lobster enchiladas and split them. I asked why they couldn’t mix the two enchiladas(with the higher price lobster being the exception of course). The answer I got was«the chef has suggested that, but they have to do it this way now.» Weak answer but it didn’t curtail our enjoyment. It comes with red and verde sauces so it had a nice two taste thing going on(you can get just one sauce). Being in the land of blueberry had a tasty blueberry frozen margarita. My son(12) had the chicken quesadilla. He loved it. Not sure I’d get it, but I’m spoiled from the fully loaded quesadillas I make at home. We also had the three taco appetizer which was a work of art. We went at 5:30 and got a nice patio table. The service was exceptional. Since we wanted to dine early, can’t speak to the service when it’s crowded. A great place when you tire of the surf and turf places. We will dine there again next year.

If you like gazpacho, do NOT order it at this place. It consisted of Prego sauce and picked cucumbers with an added cup of vinegar. Sent it back!

The Waitress was really friendly and she deserves to work at a place that can serve good food. I have 3 kids and we eat a lot of mexican food. this place was bad. Not one of my kids finished their meal and neither did my wife or I. The only good part was the chips and salsa. that was really good. We knew it had 2.5 stars when we went there and we thought… surely it cannot be 2 stars… well it is. tip to rest… focus on quality of the food and maybe even hire a critic to pop in and check on the food. I can see this is part of a group of restaurants… so surely they can manage this. anyway…

After a morning in Arcadia National Park, we headed to downtown in search of something light to eat and saw the sign for this restaurant. There was not much on the menu that would qualify as light, so my wife and I ordered cups of chicken tortilla soup. The soup was satisfying though it took me some time before I found a single piece of chicken.

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that the service was very good. Otherwise, the food was lackluster. I ordered a chicken quesadilla — wasn’t horrible but wasn’t good either. My mom was unhappy with her gazpacho, but the real kicker was that the plate my father’s food was served on was dirty. There were remnants of refried beans on the bottom of it. I’ve worked in restaurants for the past 5 years and I hate giving bad reviews, but I really don’t recommend people spend their money here…

This place is completely lost on how to do Mexican. The chips and atmosphere are stale. Ingredients are bland. We could tell what cheap grocery store brands were in the food. It tasted like a meal I could make. The waitress didn’t even bother asking why our meals went untouched. I suppose the staff knows. Not their fault though. They aren’t given much to work with. I think these 5 star reviews are from people who had a few too many half priced margaritas prior to eating. I was only slightly buzzed.

It was fine. Nothing spectacular. The space is clean but not that fun of an atmosphere. We went with a group of almost 20 and our server was probably the most energetic person ever, a bit loud and over the top, but did her job. The margaritas tasted great, but some of ours seemed like they were lacking in alcohol. The food was ok. Some meals seemed to be better than others but overall, nothing stuck out.

Not impressed at all. Poor Service… long wait. To elaborate, we waited well over an hour for our food. Apparently they ran out of rice, but there was no communication as to what was going on or when our dinner might appear. Our server was MIA and when present very short with us. Overall a very un-enjoyable experience and the food was really nothing special. There are plenty of great restaurants in Bar Harbor… this is not one and I would strongly urge you to try someplace else.

We go to a lot of Mexican Restaurants. We have been to some of the best in the country. This place was AWESOME!!! The staff was awesome. The waiter, Jared, was super friendly and treated us like royalty. We went on a Sunday and it was half-price margarita night and the pitcher was tasty and intoxicating! For dinner, I had the grilled chicken burrito and my wife had the lobster quesadilla. Both were incredibly tasty. Most importantly, this was the first dinner we had in Bar Harbor that didn’t overcharge us for being a tourist. i highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant was half-full and they weren’t sitting anymore people. I overheard that the kitchen printer wasn’t working so they weren’t sitting anymore people. We stopped at bar for an ok margarita where the ‘mix’ was being decanted out of an igloo cooler. Gross. We were hungry and ordered the jalapeño queso. Tasted like warmed velvetta. Terrible. Chips were stale and salsa was fresh from a can. We walked across street to Blaze for an excellent wood-grilled lobster.

So, like a few previous reviews, we wanted to give this new place a chance! YIKES! With only three nights in Bar Harbor, I feel we wasted our time and money. Even before putting our name in for a table, we encounter the host being berated by the manager«Of course you put 2 people at a 2-top, it’s 2 people.» The bartender and margaritas at the bar were good. Our server was sweet, but incredibly apologetic; not only to us, but the other tables around us. The wait for our food was far too long. I heard the manager speaking to a table next to us that they had run out of refried beans and rice… what??? But when my order came I had a ¼ cup of rice; we both had to send back our rice & beans as they were lukewarm. Our entrées were merely okay. This restaurant apparently owns several others in Bar Harbor, perhaps they are spreading themselves too thin.

None of these prior reviewers know what’s they’re talking about. In fact, we visited jalepenos TWICE in our 4 day visit to Bar Harbor. The service was spot on, and the bartender even remembered us from two nights prior and what we had to drink! The guac is smooth and freshly made, but still chunky enough, and the Mexican street corn you have to try! Also, I had the grilled pineapple margarita, which was delicious. Tell them to make it a little spicy with some of the habanero infused tequila and its to die for. Bar harbor was in need of a place that was different than just seafood and this place hits the spot! Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed!

Decide to try this new place since we’ve been coming to Bar Harbor for 20 years and have tried most places. Well, can’t comment on the food since we walked out after 10 minutes of no service. Now the place was only half full, it was 5:30 on Sunday, July 5th, and we were seated quickly. But the waitress walked by us 4 times, never stopped, nothing. So we got up and headed out, stopped by the hostess to get her know why we were leaving, and headed down the street to Geddy’s. I’d recommend not eating here until next year(if they last that long), there are too many good places to eat in Bar Harbor to have to put up with this ineptitude. Perhaps by then they will get their service issues resolved

You know that«I’m trying a new restaurant feeling»? Could be awesome! Could be terrible! Well, this was terrible. From the 20 minute wait in a half-empty restaurant, to the $ 4 house margarita that was so terrible I left it on a table waiting to be bussed as we went from the bar to our table, to being told the menu had a typo so no guac as a free side, to waiting 40 minutes for our food to the eventual coup de grace — the bad food. Not terrible food, not inedible food, just tasteless, bland, mexican food. The only saving grace was the army of hot sauces awaiting my command. So I liberally applied salt and hot sauce of many types to my steak tacos and beans and choked it down. After a long day hiking in Acadia, a yummy, hot mexican dinner was well anticipated. Sadly, this didn’t do the trick. Hopefully it’ll soon up its game or get taken over by something better.
