Jose’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant

Not a lot of Mexican food options in Baraboo, so if you need Mexican food, this is an option; however, beyond a hankering for Mexican, I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here. Service can be spotty, and food is nothing special. Drinks are descent and relatively inexpensive.

We just had lunch here today on valentines day based on local’s recommendation. Lots of tequila flowing! We are from chicago. Great place! Great food. José is a hoot and drinks are great. We will visit back every time we are in the area.

Yummy food, great atmosphere and amazing margaritas! The staff is great! It’s a must stop for authentic Mexican food!

This is one of the best places where I have had Mexican food. I had a mango margarita and it was nothing sort of delicious. The food was very good and tasty. The chicken burrito was yummy and I wish I could have had more of it. Moreover the owner is super fun and this is one of the very few restaurants out there where the owner comes down to the table periodically and enquires about how the food is. I will surely be going back to Jose’s.

Probably the best Mexican we have had in a while! Good food and fun, friendly service! Great atmosphere except for the dice game at the next table.

We were driving back to iowa from the dells and just wanted to grab «not fast food». We stopped at 11am and it was empty. Within 10 minutes it filled up. There is plenty of staff to attend to your needs. The basic mexican fare was good. Kids got burrito and taco. Beans and rice normal. I ordered al pastor tacos, they were pretty good. Not exactly what i was imagining but some bits of spicy meat (not shaved but chunks) it was served with cilantro and onions on the side, like they are afraid to make them for people, and a orange cold sauce that is supposed to represent the pineapple. Pretty good all around. We ordered a bunch at lunch, it was $ 40.

Jose’s is the best. Great buy one get one margarita deals. Love the Cheesesteak dinner. And the chips and salsa are great. But what really makes it is Jose himself. Great restaurant all around.

Amazing food. By far the best Mexican food I have ever had. The staff was extremely friendly and kept checking on us frequently even though they were busy which was very nice. I will definitely be back again

This restaurant is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! The food is authentic, portion sizes are large, and the price is great! Service is good. Highly recommended

They say go eat where the locals eat. This is definitely that place. And if you’ve never experienced any kind of ethnic food, this place is for you. For everyone else, go somewhere else. The food here is just OK. Nothing special. My spouse ordered beef fajitas and asked for it to be cooked medium well… by the time it came out, it was still pink. We could have sent it back but it took well over 45 minutes just to get our food. Sending it back would have probably meant another 45 minute wait.
The dining room itself is extremely crowded. Not sure how the wait staff even gets through.
The highlight of the evening was watching the food runner come out with his arms loaded down with orders. It truly is amazing to watch him balance the plates while delivering them to the tables without dropping them!

I can’t express enough how much I adore this place. Everyone is so friendly and professional. The food portions are huge; and just over the food is fantastic. It’s always the place I go to when I’m in Baraboo.

Great food and huge margaritas! Most places that advertise ‘authentic’ Mexican food don’t feel very authentic… or even worse– feel forced. Jose’s had a comfortable and inviting atmosphere and polite staff. Servers great timing and made sure that you were taken care of without missing a step at other tables.
If I lived in Wisconsin I would be a regular there for sure. :)

Awesome food, lively atmosphere, and staff that love what they do. What more can you ask for?

The bad:
Our service– Unfortunately we felt like we had the only bad server in the place. All the other servers were friendly to the other tables and attentive. While ours barely spoke at all to us or give us any service. He was wearing a different color shirt from the others so our hope was that he was new.
The seating– It was compact. There were beams blocking the aisles and some of the tables. Felt small when in reality I don’t think it was too small, just bad layout.
The good:
Food– hot, fresh and kind of made the other stuff not matter. KIND OF. Lots of flavor!
Overall we felt it was an okay place. Wish we could have experienced the friendly service it seemed others were getting and it would have made it an entirely enjoyable dinner!

Great Service! This place was packed, but they were quick to seat us… and even when they ran behind because of a large group and a very full restaurant… the owner made sure to stop by all the tables and resolve any possible issues… and our waiter offered a free margarita because of the delay! Wow! Then there’s the food… I though it was great and my husband says this was by far the best Mexican food he had ever had! Definitely recommend!

The food here is authentic and the margaritas are excellent. Chips and salsas are great also.

Good service and delicious food .The portions are huge !!! Tequila sunrise was double or even triple the size then in any other places and cost only $ 4.50 !!! Highly recommended this place !!!

You have a few choices in Baraboo, Lake Delton, and Wisconsin Dells for decent Mexican food, but Jose’s is in a field by itself. If you want the chain reataurant feel, find somewhere else to eat because Jose’s isn’t what you’re after. If you’re interested in eating where the locals eat, head on over… and prepare to wait in line during peak times.
What Jose’s offers is outstanding Mexican food at a very fair price. The staff is very friendly and genuinely seems happy to see you.
Sometimes, when it gets very crowded, the service can be a bit slow. Keep in mind there’s a small staff and, even with a slower pace, your food will be served piping hot and taste like a lot of care went into your meal.
It is always fun to watch the birthday celebration. The staff comes out, guitar in hand, sings, and then there’s a special something at the end. I won’t ruin the surprise in case you, the reader, are on your way to celebrate yours.
While off the beaten path of touristy areas up in the Dells, Jose’s is very easy to get to and well worth the drive out. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Outstanding meal … Seriously. Coming from Phoenix AZ, I expected good but not worth great. But I was mistaken. The food was all seriously delicious for our party of six.

Service was top notch by every single server that stopped by our table. Our server, Sergio was great– very engaging and fun.
About a 10 mile jaunt from the Dells.
We came in through the back and walked by the massive wall of people wearing sombrero photos.

Mazatlan: Shrimp tacos and a crab somthing or other– I think it was a enchilda

Steak Tampiqueno– I usually love this elsewhere– I just didn’t care for it here. The steak was too well done for my liking and the meat just tasted cheap. I know and love steak– this just didn’t do it for me. It’s rare that I ever leave steak left on the plate.
Place is cute. A lot of townies must frequent the place.
My n/​a peach margarita was refreshing. My mom’s alcho one was kinda meh and watered down. Tasted like the mix only sans the tequila.
One of the nicer options for the area.
