Barbers Point Beach Cottages

Least liked out of the three MWR sites we visited. Cottages are updated but bugs and gecko’s rampant in the cottages. More updated than Bellows but you are not really there to hang out in the cottage. Views are great. This area is really a surfing area, Beach to water angle steep w/​rocks, makes it difficult to swim or boogie board. Beach not kid friendly. Mostly surfing is what I saw. My kids had to find a pool created by a concrete barrier to play in the water. Internet sucks, they require you to connect with a Cat 5 cable? Should be wireless…
Tamuras Market was the closest food (good Ahi Poke) but the area is getting build up… brand new community just a short drive away with all the normal stores… Boston Pizza was really good. Hawaiian Lemonade stand was worth a stop on the side of the road.

Military families ONE YEAR before your next duty station start making your reservations and enjoy a weekend here! I promise you will not regret it! father’s day weekend spent here. Kids loved it. We had nimitz one bedroom. And I must say I love this place!!! Layout made me want to go tiny living!!! lol! It was small, comfy, cute, and actually perfect for our family of four! I wish I could just live there!!! This is my last year here and we wanted to make the best of it. So last year I reserved whatever dates were available and worked our schedule around it to enjoy our stay and have a little vacation. This was worth every penny!!!

If you have the opportunity to stay here. Stay here. We were so lucky to get in with a last minute cancellation. We have been trying to get a spot for two years!
Make sure you get there before 6 pm– if your driving from town side expect heavy traffic if you leave any time after 2:30.
Perfect location for a relaxing get away. The cottages were extremely clean, we were all very impressed. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I’m sure it’s nice here, but if you’re not Navy you get lower priority. Active or retired Navy get’s first pick. Is it the same with Army facilities toward Active or retired Army Personnel?

Great little hidden gem. Not sure if you have to be part of the military to stay here. Family in the national guard treated us to a stay here for a week. Real close to base. Very nice beach cottages have everything you need even internet, BBQ, kitchen, etc. Had a great time here. Loved seeing the heli fly over once and a while too.

My family and I just got back from spending a week at one of the White Plains Beach cottages and we loved it! The cottages there are a duplex, but the construction is cinder block, so hearing our neighbors through the walls was almost non-​existent. Plus, having pounding surf just feet from your door is a natural soundproofer!
The cottages look kinda ancient from the outside, but the renovations inside are quite nice and contemporary. In the kitchen is a full sized fridge (freezer had set-​up for ice-​cube maker, but it wasn’t hooked up), electric stove, «stackable» washer and dyer (smaller capacity), blender, 12 cup coffee maker and full size microwave. Pots, pans, glasses, mugs, silverware, plates, bowls colander, glass storage container with lid (for leftovers, for example), various utensils like tongs (which you can use on the outdoor grill), a spatula, etc are also provided. Granite counter top in the kitchen. Trash can with two trash bags and a recycling bin outside on porch (or lenai). Round kitchen table with 4 chairs are seated close to a couch, coffee table and extra chair.
Cable TV with an ethernet cable for your laptop. NO WI-FI…There is a land-​line phone and we gave the number to our families state-​side to call US, because our cellphones could never get a decent signal there!
We had a 2 bedroom cottage. The «master» bedroom was off the kitchen with a queen size bed, 2 bedside tables, a long, 6 drawer dresser and a closet with a few hangers. Within the open shelving of the closet contained an iron/​ironing board, extra blankets and an emergency bag (did not check it out). The other bedroom had 2 twin beds and a 6 drawer dresser. On that dresser were extra blankets and extra towels.
The one bathroom had a large, tiled SHOWER ONLY. I called ahead about a hair dryer, but you have to bring your own. Under the bathroom sink is a plunger, toilet bowl brush and 1 extra roll of toilet paper. We had to ask for more of that with 4 people spending a week there!
This cottage is air-​conditioned, but the units are in the bedrooms and the other parts of the cottage get a bit warm in the late afternoon. There are several ceiling fans, though.
Out on the lanai (porch), which is cement, is a round picnic table, 2 plastic chairs and on the other side of the wall of the porch are 2 chaise loungers. There is also an outdoor shower and hose. There is a clothesline out back.
We had awesome sunrise views of Honolulu and Diamond Head and tons of surfers and paddle boarders, even at that early hour. There was a Hawaiian Monk Seal (endangered) that came ashore every day that we stayed there. Locals say it’s a sign of good luck! They are given a large, roped off area to lounge in the sun in peace. The beach just outside our door was sandy, with rocks a few feet out into the surf. A lifeguard was present, leaving around 5 – 5:30. MWR has surfboards to rent and lessons, too.
We’d go back in a heartbeat! You should go, too!

great remodeled Cottages, great customer service, we will be back

We rented a two bedroom cottage for the New Years weekend and were not at all disappointed. The cottages appear to have been recently renovated; the place was clean, the appliances nice and in good working order, and all for an amazing price. Six of us stayed here — one bedroom had one bed (a queen I believe, maybe a king) and the second bedroom had two full beds, so everyone had a bed to sleep on. The cottage is literally right on the beach, has outdoor seating, lounge chairs, a BBQ, and is right next to the MWR office where you can rent various pieces of equipment for your sea adventures. We’ll definitely be staying here again!

Excellent! We stayed on Nimitz Beach and loved it. The cottages have been remodeled and are brand new in the inside. Everything was new including HE washer and dryer. We were 50 yards from the beautiful beach. Perfect perfect location. Would definitely stay there again.

A friend of mine works for the government so she has access to the cottages, we called about two months in advance to reserve a two bed room cottage for the weekend. I have been here once before, but this time around I noticed that the cottages were completely renovated! There is a full kitchen, glass top stove, washer and dryer, the bathroom is not so big, however I like that the shower is a walk in and its roomy. It’s good for the kiddies, just throw them all in there and hose them down! The bedrooms have AC! That was a major plus! The master bedroom has a king size bed with ample closet space, the second bedroom had two full size beds with a big dresser which contained extra bedding and towels for your entire stay. There was also a Clearwire internet modem in the guest room, so if you brought your laptop you could use the ethernet connection. It’s a secured area where the military police patrol often so you feel safe leaving your bbq grill and camping equipment out on your porch. There is a gate which requires a security key to enter the property. Our cottage was ocean front, the beach was literally right outside our front door. The sand is clean and the ocean is not too rough for the kids, perfect size shore break for them to boogie board. The best deal in town by far! $ 100 per night, can’t go wrong with that! We will be back!

I stayed in one of the Nimitz Beach duplex cottage during a recent TDY to Hawaii with my family. I was pleasantly surprised by the entire visit! Though they’re not much to look at from the outside (think cinder block walls, public pool tables and lounge chairs), the MWR folks have certainly done a lot on the inside. Nicely decorated and updated. Also you can’t beat having the beach either right outside your door or at most, 50 yards away. The beach was a little rough for my toddler, but he enjoyed playing in the sand throughout the day. Also having an outdoor shower was very convenient. It was very breezy throughout the 5 days we were there so we were more than comfortable in the living room/​kitchen (a/​c in the bedrooms). The only problem is the internet access. You have to have an ethernet cable and because it uses satellite, it can be difficult to maintain a strong signal. This would not have been a problem, except that I was TDY and still needed to access my work email.
Also if your child enjoys planes as much as I do, there is a Coast Guard Air Station and private airport nearby so that there is a plane in the sky practically every minute for them to watch.

My family’s been renting these cottages for a decade now. It’s sort of like our family’s beach house without all the fuss. We recently rented one for a week after not coming here for a couple years. We normally have a specific cottage in mind (sorry, not going to reveal which one) when we make our reservations as we’re familiar with the layout. This particular cottage or house is a three bedroom two bath structure smack dab on the beach near White Plains with a stunning oceanfront view of Diamond Head. Many of the multi-​million dollar properties on the Gold Coast can’t say the same.
We come here to downshift into «do what you like or do nothing at all» mentality. There’s a full kitchen with washer and dryer, a decent size dinning/​living room area that looks out onto a huge covered deck facing the ocean. I like sunset and sunrise here as it’s just dazzling across the ocean. Enchanting anyone into a blissful daze.
On the weekends is when most of my extended family descend upon here with keiki everywhere. The reef landscape fronting the cottage depends on the season and ocean conditions. Most times it’s abundant sand, however sometimes it can be rugged reef. Currently it’s perfect with tide pools that I’ve taken keiki nieces and nephews to play. The adults usually take their turn surfing, SUP, diving or fishing. Yes, we’ve seen sharks here, but we’ve also seen beautiful honu (turtles) and two resident monk seals that often beach themselves early morning and spend most of the day basking in the sunshine.
At nights the adults hang out on the deck playing ukulele, dancing to tunes or catching up with aunties and uncles with an over abundance of pupu. Older cousins take the keiki on flashlight walks for crabs and other sea trinkets. I love the sound of the ocean lulling you to sleep.
A fantastic option for those who belong to the military or have connections. Place is operated by MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) and patrolled by military personnel and secured on Eisenhower Road by gate accessed via passkey. A great staycation with decent amenities and a priceless view!
