The Barkhamsted Reservoir is the primary water supply for the city of Hartford and its surrounding area. The biggest attractions for me though are riding through and seeing the picturesque views of Saville Dam and Lake McDonough. Right below the dam, there’s a major recreation area with a small local beach for swimming, boating fishing, hiking and picnicking. There’s an east and west entrance and parking near the beach which is $ 6, but if you’re on a cruise on your motorcycle or want to save yourself a few dollars, park up near the dam at one of the two lots for free. Beautiful area to relax, ride, or enjoy a lazy afternoon.
