My spouse and I were married on the Cape in October 2012. Now that we’ve had a year to reflect on the experience we decided to return to Unilocal and leave some reviews for those we partnered with last year. Steve Binder(a.k.a Cape DJ) was the DJ for our wedding. He came highly recommended, but in the end we were disappointed with the experience. We had a very good first in-person meeting with Steve in spring of 2012! He seemed very cheerful, personable and organized. However, as the fall neared, we found it increasingly difficult to coordinate with him on music selection and the process overall. We asked him by email what he needed from us and how we should proceed together.(We did approach all our wedding vendors as «partners» not as «service people»!) However, a couple of key emails to Steve were never responded to. With time still ticking, we emailed him again to inquire… From then on we received terse — actually sarcastic — and unhelpful communications. Still, we did manage to nail down a music plan the week before the wedding and all seemed to be back on track. Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, while Steve did show up in a nice suit, he did not play the song my wife wanted to walk down the aisle to. He just left the wedding party procession song playing on and on and on. Not wanting to make a scene, we just played the hand we were dealt. During the reception, we did hear some of the songs we requested but there were also songs we had never ever heard of that weren’t really the style of what we had requested. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. However, on a positive note, Steve’s sound system worked fine — during both the ceremony and the reception. We were thankful for that. And he brought along soft blue lighting that did create quite a nice mood in the otherwise unadorned white reception room.
