DK Fabrics

Disappointed in the response to my visit to this store. The gentlemen there suggested a book for me to look through. He looked on the shelf for the book. Without a word he left the shelf, went to the desk and began working. I thought he was still searching for the book. About five minutes later I walked to the desk. He was doing paperwork. He ignored me completely. I left. Total lack of service, politeness or interest.
I don’t know what it takes to get responsiveness there but I’m not interested in ever going back. I can be ignored by my cat!!!

I have lived in the area for just over 5 years and stumbled upon this stylish shop in Barrington, RI soon after I moved. Multiple projects later, I can say that, without a doubt, DK Fabrics holds a passion for excellence in what they do. I have recommended this business to friends for anything textile (upholstery, window treatments, cushions, pillows) and they inevitably return with rave reviews and excitement about their «next project.» Here is the warning… it becomes a bit addictive.
Diane and Mike are the ever-​present owners who always seem excited when I haul out my newest gross-​chair-​on-​the-​brink-​of-​dumping (maybe they are just humoring me!). Their selection of fabrics can only be described as overwhelming. However, Diane really has a great ability to hone in on what you and your project are searching for. I tend toward colorful geometric patterns on otherwise antique shaped chairs, and am always amazed at how they make the patterns line up perfectly with such odd tufts and curves.
I also apparently tend to innately follow the herd and show up at their busy times (prior to the winter holidays and prior to the summer). So, one should not expect any project to be done overnight. However, the wait speaks to their work and reputation, and the outcome is worth it. My disgusting chairs return to the house looking and feeling like a new piece of art.
Reupholstering and rehabilitating antique chairs takes a lot of work and fabric, so the process is not inexpensive (although, I have found the DK Fabrics prices reasonable for the work and service). Compare this to the price of a brand new piece of furniture (with a fraction of the character), and there is no comparison. There is no reason to ever buy a new piece of upholstered furniture if you are within driving distance of DK Fabrics.
