I was shopping in the plaza across the street and saw the sign that the shop was open today and stopped by on a whim. The ladies working here are super nice and asked if I had been here before. Since I hadn’t they explained the store to me in detail. They emphasized the quality. They are right. Everything is in great condition. However, some of this stuff is old. I saw tags for Fall River Knitting Mills and Weathervane. That Weathervane one really brought me back to my high school days and my big 80’s hair. AquaNet and a hair dryer anyone? Anyway, most of the things here to tend towards an older clientele. I think my mother would have more luck and she is 80. Having said that, I did see two cute jackets that I tried on. I didn’t have the luck of Goldilocks though — one was too big and one was too small. None was just right. I did see a pair of Michael Kors pants for $ 10 that I would have snatched up if I could have stuffed myself into them. All in all it wasn’t bad and I’ll definitely stop by again.

Encore is a total gem! But like all consignment shops, you need to dig to find the good stuff. Likes: everything in beautiful shape, reasonable prices, high percentage of brand names like Talbots, Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren. And some higher end stuff like Theory. Gripes: most of the stuff look like it it came off of a lady in Barrington. :Insert stereotype here.: Lots of preppy pieces like Talbots cotton t’s and Chicos pants. My mom and grandmother would have a field day! People tending the shop aren’t the most friendly. Sorta hard to find in the basement of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Closed for the summer. Most of the inventory caters to older women vs. super hip, fun working professionals. The store lacks personality — it’s definitely got that church yard sale sorta vibe vs. «welcome to my curated boutique.» But for serious, I walked out with a black Theory dress and khaki Theory pants — would have been at least $ 200 new — $ 17 total. Totally dreamy! So so soooo pleased with my designer treasures. Thanks rich ladies in Barrington! Next time you’re headed to scope out the boutiques in Warren, stop into Encore!
