Worst service at an VON’s ever. And worst quality ever. Staff at the sandwich counter is not trained, has no knowledge of the menu and serves bread that we don’t even feed our cats. And that’s taking into consideration that Americans have an other bread standard than we do. Even do, it was still too old to serve. Even toasted. I regret we were in a hurry to LAX. Otherwise I would definitely have complainted. Girl at the counter: ‘What can I do for you’ We: ‘2 hot sandwiches with turkey, pesto and avocado on a focaccio from the menu’ She: ‘What kind of bread’ We: ‘Well, the focaccio from the menu’ She: ‘Warm or cold’ We: ‘Hot like offered on the menu’ She: ‘And what would you like on the sandwich?‘ We: ‘Well, what offered on the menu: turkey, pesto, provone and avocado’ She: ‘what kind of cheese?‘ And this went on and on and on. She even got help and they both had no clue. I’m sorry… I’m lost. And to make it worse, it didn’t even took forever, the bread was also frozen when it went into the grill, cold when we got it and old and dry. A definitely no go.

Huh. So I’ve never been in a Von Von Von’s before this one … turns out it’s just Safeway under a different name? You can even use your Safeway club card here. One thing they do have that I’ve never seen at a Safeway is these great big cookies at the deli that they sell 2 for $ 1. («Every time you see me … I’m either coming from getting groceries … or on my way to get groceries!» )

Von’s has many great specials. I recommend Von’s app Just For You. You will find great deals designed around what you buy at Von’s. Compare to Haggen, Von’s prices are excellent and the associates are truly genuine and friendly, they always offer a smile.

If this grocery store was not close I do not think I would even bother going here. When i needed assistance no one was to be found and i got asked several times did i work there myself. The checkout lines are always long and some never even open. Shopping at this particular VONS is a mission within itself. Even though I’m not a fan of self check out I think this grocery store needs one. The employees never seem to know the answer to a question I might have & the prices are really starting to get outrageous !. .. This is the only store I know that runs out of carts. .. The list of problems can go on !!!

The reason I don’t like Vons is because of that club card of theirs. Their prices are through the roof without that card. However it is one of the better grocery stores in Barstow. As compared to other locations, it ain’t the best. But for Barstow… eh…what do ya expect.?. Its better than nothing. I do get sick of the zombos begging for a handout and harassing customers in the parking lot and in front of the store.

This Vons is a hit or miss… my family is stationed on Ft Irwin, CA and this is the next best thing in terms of finding good groceries. I am used to having organic produce available to me in abundance. But Vons can some times be a let down. I do not mind paying extra for premium food but there have been several times the produce was decaying and still on display, wilted kale and limited organic meat. All in all, I still come to Vons because its all I have but there is room for much improvement.

Great sandwich, great value and great customer service! I ordered a hot chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich from Fiana at the deli counter. I got the small on cheddar bread, which is the size of a Subway 6″. You can customize your sandwich with specialty cheeses, red pepper hummus and aioli! I paid $ 5.49 for the sandwich, got a 2-pack of huge chocolate chip cookies for $ 1(Costco sized), Kettle chips, a pack of Trident gum and a medium fountain drink ALLFOR $ 8.94! I used my Von’s membership card for the extra discounts. Can’t get that at Subway. And nowhere on the ingredients list did I see the yoga mat chemical Subway was using in their bread for years in America despite being banned in other countries, azodicarbonamide. Thanks Fiana for the friendly service and expertly crafted sandwich and thanks Vons for the great ingredients and killer deal!

Have stopped here on the way to or from Vegas to get some supplies, fresh fruits and vegetables, liquids. Easy to get in and out of, and much much cheaper than most of the roadside convenience stores or anything in Vegas hotels.

I don’t generally review grocery stores, but Von’s in Barstow deserves a special mention. We stopped there as we were about to head out on the first day of our fossil-hunting/ghost-town-exploring trip in the Nevada desert. We intended to stock up on beverages, fruit, snack-y things, and sandwich-y things. We were pleasantly surprised to find that not only were there folks making sandwiches there early in the morning(breakfast and otherwise), but that the gentleman behind the counter took such pains to make the perfect sandwiches for us. There was a lot of variety in the bread/meat/cheese dept., which was nice, but what really made it special was the person who made them. He was friendly and treated us as if we were his only customers. We had occasion to ask another gentleman(a manager, perhaps?) a number of questions, and he was similarly friendly and engaged, and made a point of checking in with us before we left to be sure we had everything we needed. Good people. Good vibes. This Von’s is a happy store.

This Vons(aka Safeway) is something you need for the traveling man. In translation, you buy the water you need and other food goods that will make your trip that much more cheaper. This is a small scale grocery store, but this is Barstow. I was staying just across the street at the Rodeway Lodge. We ran across the street to buy some stuff for our trip to the Grand Canyon.

A standard nothing particular stand out Vons. I would have 3-starred it but we got to witness a fantastic argument between a couple that pretty much carried on down every aisle they were on, and to the register. It was totally sweet.

My rating is for 2 stars mainly because of the confusing/convoluted pricing that Von’s uses to extract more money from customers. They make you use their store card to get the advertised special prices which often results in paying more than you expected at the register. Almost every time I go there I end up paying more than the advertised price, I can’t believe it’s always an accident so I assume they do it on purpose. I would like to see them come clean and set one price per item and leave it at that to simplify things. Get rid of the store cards. Having said all that, Von’s is the best grocery store in Barstow and I will shop there in the future although I have to be vigilant about prices. Deli seems pretty good, the fresh French bread is amazing. Try the Red White and Blue potato salad for a treat. Produce also seems to be pretty high quality and large selection.

Most of my previous review stands but I want to add that the bakery is nothing less than amazing. The cheese bagels never disappoint and the deli has way more new and good stuff than just about anywhere in town. The new layered salads are awesome and I love the new look of the store.

It’s your standard grocery store. Very nice, and has everything I need when visiting Barstow. The part I really dislike is that you HAVE to sign up for their club in order to get the prices on 90% of their inventory. I hate having to sign up for cards, so it’s a hassle I don’t think people should have to go through. That being said, even though the prices are slightly higher than big stores, the employees are friendly and helpful, so it makes shopping here all worth it.

This VONS may have saved my life and as such I’m giving this place a whole hearted A+++. Ok so I was in Vegas in late June for a Bachelor’s party. We did the party for 35 hours straight thing. At this 35th hour, I came to a cross road. I had the option to get some bad sleep and ride my motorcycle back to San Diego at night or just suck it up and ride home during the day. I figure fighting fatigue in the day in the desert was the better option so I saddled up and headed home. Nevermind the dehydration. Well at about Baker, CA I felt myself starting to fade. My body was giving me the signs of passing out so I pulled off the 15 and ended up in this VONS. Why the five stars? I grabbed a chair and they let me sit in the dairy aisle among the refrigerators and didn’t say a word to me. If it weren’t for this 40 minutes lounging among the milk I shudder to think what would have happened.

They’re more expensive, but I think they’re worth it. They have a great selection, a good layout, and their employees are always on hand with a smile and a desire to help.
