The food here is as good as at any other Pizza Hut. And the staff has always been very friendly, and they get the food out in a reasonable time. On that basis, maybe three-and-a-half stars. But both times I was here recently, the facility was a mess. The bathroom was out of order once and flooded and out of order the other time. One of the two doors was busted with the hinge piece hanging down from the frame. Maybe the lobby was as clean as it gets, but it seemed dingy to me.

I have only eaten at Pizza Hut two times in the last year; both times because someone I was with insisted. Yesterday, while visiting with clients in Bartow, was one of those times. Not only had the quality gone down in the last several years and the quality of the competition gone up, Pizza Hut pizza had gotten sloppy and inconsistent in my view. Back in the day, I really looked forward to Pizza Hut night: eat in, pick up, and/or delivery. Those days were gone. So, I can’t tell you how miserable it was to hear, «Let’s go to Pizza Hut for lunch!» But, it got worse, «They have a buffet!» Okay, two things: first, I hate haphazard pizza and, second, I hate haphazard pizza that’s been sitting on a table for two hours collecting germs from everyone and their mother who happens by. Sounded like an AWFUL idea to me, but… what can you do? I went to Pizza Hut with my clients. Just let me get this out before moving on: Pizza Hut bathrooms are disgusting and nasty; always have been. Why is that? You would think SOMEONE in management, or the corporate office no less, would come up with the ingenious idea of cleaning the revolting bathroom! Aren’t bathrooms on the health inspector’s list or something? To matters worse, both times I have visited Pizza Hut in the last year(Winter Haven and Bartow) the toilets did not work properly. Who is in charge of that? Anyone? Apparently not. Moving on. We passed by the buffet and were seated at the back of the restaurant. The buffet looked fairly fresh and well stocked but… the germ thing. I ordered off the menu. Sitting in the back of the restaurant, slightly hanging off the edge of the booth, one can see right into the kitchen and watch the cook make the pizzas. Would that be «cook» or «assembler»? Either way: I watched! Gladly, the fellow making the pizzas looked like someone I wouldn’t mind touching my food(they don’t wear gloves). As I watched the cook, or assembler, making the pizzas, I was pleasantly surprised: several times throughout the hour or so we were there, I saw him wiping down the counter with, what looked like, sanitizer. Too, in between creations, he washed his hands. When my pizza arrived(quite speedily, I might add) it actually looked… well…amazing! It reminded me of Pizza Hut’s good ol’ days. The ingredients were spread out nicely and uniform. When it came time for the tasting, I have to tell you, I was delighted! There wasn’t too much sauce or too little, and the cheese was spread evenly throughout the pie. In fact, it was the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time. I am hesitant to recommend Pizza Hut to anyone but, if you happen to be in Bartow(say noonish) on a Monday, ask to sit in the back. If you see a cook(I’d call him a «Pizza Artist») there who looks like a guy you wouldn’t mind touching your food, have a seat and enjoy… just be sure to use the bathroom before you get there.
