Great food. We have been going here since 99. Sticky buns and farmers eggs! Have not had dinner but it’s probably as good as breakfast. Small dining room. Mochas

I had to get up to ask for water, then again to ask for bread, then again to ask for the check. The salad greens were wilted, old and tasteless and the carrots dried out. Dressing was gelatinous and far from homemade. Roll was yeasty, dry and stale. Probably the worst lunch I’ve had in many years.

Can’t only give this place one star, but will not give above two. Sat down for a Sunday breakfast and the service was terrible. Took almost 20 min to order and receive a coffee… plain old drip, nothing special. If the place was full I would have had some empathy, but being we were one of a handful of tables I began to wonder why. Upon glancing at the menu I was terribly disappointed, for the price point you’d better offer something special. As hungry as I was, nothing appeared appetizing. So, without finishing the coffee, I settled the ticket and walked two buildings down for a fabulous breakfast at Heather’s. Thank you for helping me find a wonderful breakfast spot!

Bernard is a genius in the kitchen. Dinner: The muscles are some of the best I’ve ever had, served in a very light tomato broth with fries(do not ask for ketchup!). The lamb is so tender and juicy. Also have tried the trout almandine, which was delightful, and the venison. All beautiful and tasty. Dinner can be expensive, so if you would prefer a less extravagant meal, try breakfast or lunch. The farmers eggs is a personal favorite and the pain perdue is served with loads of fresh fruit. I enthusiastically recommend Café Bernard’s. The food is consistently great and the restaurant is in the heart of a small historic mining town. What could be better?

The ice tea was good, the menu had very few options. Was out of soup and we heard at least 10 people ask for it during our lunch. The sandwich I got was to die for though. Nice little spot for a quick lunch.

We had a delicious dinner, pork osso bucco. It had a heavy, delicious cream based sauce, prepared in the traditional French way and served with pomme frites. So far my favorite restaurant in the area. It’s a little bit on the pricey side, but it is priced appropriately. The food being heavy though t(as expected for French food), this restaurant would be for special dinner occasions.

Every meal at Bernard’s is wonderful, but I am particularly partial to dinner here. Fantastic French cuisine served by a Master of his trade. Love it for special occasions, celebrations, or just a nice meal out. One of my favorites in the Roaring Fork Valley. Always consistent, ample portions and I have tried everything at least once. The mussels(my favorite is with the cream sauce) but also excellent with the tomato garlic. Escargot, Curry Shrimp(amazing), filet mignon cooked just right, the seafood platter, salmon, even the liver and onions are outstanding. Warm bread and fresh butter, Pom frittes, salad items and we love the sorbets, served in their own casing(lemon in the lemon, coconut in the shell, mango and so on). Bernard personally visits each table to ensure everything exceeds your expectations. No bar service but very nice wine menu. I have never had a bad meal at Café Bernard. No let be re-phrase that. I love everything at Café Bernard. Priced better than Aspen and better food. Also, good breakfasts at a reasonable price.

I love breakfast. In fact I love breakfast foods so much I’ll eat them for dinner frequently. While perusing through Unilocal I was excited to see the pictures and reviews of the food at Café Bernard. It was a Sunday morning and I was happy to be seated upon arrival. The waitress was super friendly and our little table, though small, was very clean and comfortable. She took our drink order and our coffee and chai came out promptly. I do want to note that my chai did taste quite a bit watered down by milk but I didn’t mention anything to the waitress as I was so hungry. We noted that the menu offers a variety of choices and I decided to go with the Cowboy(extra cowboy in fact — egg-in-the-hole in multi-grain bread) while my companion went with the Smoked Trout Hash and a bagel with cream cheese. The Smoked Trout Hash looked awesome as did my Extra Cowboy. I was a bit disappointed that the potatoes that came with my meal lacked seasoning(hash browns/breakfast potatoes are my fave) and the bread though fresh was just ok. Temperature wise the food was good though overall quite bland(both dishes) which left us both disappointed as we had been so excited to try this restaurant. I do want to note that there was a multi color sugar shaker on the table that we were excited about though neither of us seemed to order anything it would go with(we ended up putting some on the bagel and cream cheese for fun). I gave this business 3 out of 5 stars as I thought the staff was really great, the drinks/food came out fairly quickly, and the location was accessible and convenient. Next time I am in the area however I will more than likely try a different breakfast spot.

Great little breakfast place that also appears to serve lunch and dinner. Creative menu with a few local options. Great prices and pretty good coffee. Try one of the fresh home made doughnuts!

We were able to seat my family of 10 in here. It was perfect. I’m writing this 5 months later and I still remember this place.

The usual very expensive and very small breakfast you find in Basalt. But I will say, my omelette was delicious! A la carte, though, so make sure you order some toast. I love their hot tea options. Service was lovely and I loved the décor in this place. On a side note, this town hasn’t gotten wind of gluten allergy options.

Food was good, but service was slow. Never did get the water I requested. One server on a busy Saturday morning makes no sense.

Good selection of fairly unique sandwiches, intimate and small… everything a café should be. Bit of a hippy/eco vibe but I like it anyway. Wouldn’t call the service fast but it’s worth it.

Nice little mountain café. Much better than the restaurants we have tried in Aspen, certainly when you’re comparing pricing. Delicious homemade bread and jam and great coffee. I would drive an extra fifteen minutes out of Aspen to eat here instead of in Aspen

Tasty omelettes were had by me and 4 guests. Took a bit of a long time to deliver coffee and set the table, one fork and spoon and knife at a time.(Awkward! And it’s a weird thing when a restaurant that’s been around this long has such silly, inefficient processes.) If you’re looking for a light, tasty breakfast with reasonable portions, this is it! Fast service — no. Friendly service — no. Yummy food — yes. Accepts modifications — I was too afraid to ask! The portions are a bit small– and friend ordered a bagel with his omelette(two meals) because the omelette isn’t served with anything. Everything was a la carte at breakfast… no potatoes, tomatoes or toast served with our omelettes. Even though I don’t eat potatoes, or toast… I love fruit and sliced tomatoes with my omelette. Only four omelette choices — and one of the only gluten free things on the menu so I felt like I really only had a few choices here. I prefer to have lots of choices at breakfast and stuff my omlette with a variety of things. So once you order a slice of bacon with your omelette or piece of bread — it feels weird and gets kinda pricey. And what I would have given for some hot peppers in that goat cheese omelette, mon dieu! The place is small with the tables all scattered without any divides or anything — so privacy is not what you’ll find. Anyway — for a health-conscious person who eats reasonable portions I’m really happy. I’ll probably be back. Often. For somebody looking for a big, rowdy American breakfast — au revoir. Overall, the restaurant is not very individualistic and you’re more or less forced to conform with somebody else’s menu. Just sayin’. It’s a bit French. ;-)

This is a gem of a place! We were very pleasantly surprised on our visit. The morning buns are incredible, croissants fantastic, omelets… well let’s just say they didn’t need to box anything up from our table! The coffee is great, I just can say enough about our pitstop on the way to Snowmass. French influence, clean neat décor. You won’t be disappointed.

I give it six starts for the quality of culinary experience, class, the excellent coffee(better flavor & body than any Starbucks), friendly wait staff, classy & vibrant deco, & great quality of food. Bestest waffle I’ve ever had. Soft, fluffy, well done. one bite and the flavor of butter milk & goodness exploded in ur mouth. Light on stomach; not greasy nor heavy. While we relaxed here, two aged cyclists walked in in their cycling apparels, sat down, & started reading newspapers. Nice. We had coffee, trout hash, farmer’s wife & waffle. Bill ran up to $ 32. Not bad at all; dinning in place this classy, cute & beautiful can easily cost an arm & a leg in NYC. While we waited for fresh coffee to brew for refill, we can smell nice aroma from the kitchen… so mouthwatering! FYI: no wifi. Signs all over the place with«no cellphone» means in-person conversation & quality time at the table. lunch served 11:30 -. There is wall outlets to charge ur electronics. The wait staff were, indeed, kind. :-) Thanx for a great bkfst experience!

Excellent service for lunch. Walked in randomly off the street with my wife and daugther. Our infant daugther received some leery looks from many of the patrons, but the staff loved her. Our waitresses were attentive and the food was excellent. The soup of the day was worth the trip by itself. Highly recommend.

The slowest service I’ve had in a while. I think we waited 10 minutes for someone to ask us what we’d like to drink and 15 more minutes to finally get it. And let’s not even talk about how long it took for the food to come out. I couldn’t understand why either because there was a server for the inside and another for the outside and only two or three tables for each. The food was decent, nothing out of this world but at least it wasn’t overly priced. This place gets three stars solely based on the décor and the atmosphere.
