This is just what Bastrop needs! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. My ONLY wish is that they opened a bit earlier.

This place really is a budding golden nugget. It looks like it’s just beginning to grow and get it’s sea legs. Just like any farmer’s market, the fresh produce ebbs and flows depending on the season but there are also some staples like crackers, a few bulk items, and some select spices and dried herbs that I’ve been pleased with as well. The selection ranges from local produce to organic meats to beauty products made by locals. there is also some furniture made of reclaimed wood and few local crafts booths as well. I’ve been pleased with everything I’ve purchased here and really appreciate the easy location and the ample parking. It’s easy for me to pop in on the way home and pick up what I need for the evening meal. Oh! And they have duck eggs too. Yum! I understand they also have a website that they post what items they have that week in the market. The fantastic thing is they’re open all week as opposed to just one day like a farmers market. I love that!!!

If you have missed the local farmers market and are looking for local produce during the rest of the week in the Bastrop area, head to the Bastrop Producers Market. They are open every day except Monday and their hours do vary. My husband and I are big juicing fans and this is a great place for us to pick up fresh organic produce. My last visit I picked up some Smithville grown beets, asparagus, spinach and carrots and they were all very fresh. they had our organic apple cider vinegar on hand and even had organic chicken scratch for our chickens. Looking for something other than chicken eggs there is a big variety in the cooler along with locally grown meats.

Support local business and farmers! Go to Bastrop Producer’s Market! I love farmer’s markets, but I usually can’t get to them on limited weekend hours. Enter BPM– Bastrop Producer’s Market. They are open Tues-Fri 11 – 7, Sat 9 – 6, and Sun 1−6−− hours a working mom can fit into a busy day! They have a large selection of locally grown, truly organic goods from beauty products to fresh foods. I have become committed to slow-cooked, fresh, locally grown food for my family. I have started to buy my produce here as opposed to our major grocery chain. They also have grassfed meats, all organic, as well. Now don’t go there expecting them to have everything a chain grocery store has. Rather than taking my long grocery list into BPM, I go in and decide what delicious dinners I can make based on what they have in the store. Other wonderful finds? novelty and traditional crafted items, many of which are made from reclaimed/recycled products. Here’s a sample menu I made for my very picky family the other night. I bought everything at BPM. Braised, grass-fed butterfly pork chops Baked(cubed) seasoned sweet potatoes Mixed green salad(lettuce, spinach, tomato) Homemade bread They had no idea where the food was from, but they absolutely loved it. Support this local business that supports our local, small farmers! The owners are an absolute delight!

I love this place. It’s like a farmer’s market that’s open at times that are convenient for me – I don’t have to worry about getting up early on the weekend and rushing somewhere only to find they’re out of what I need. The meat/poultry options are varied and tasty; I’ve had lamb ribs, buffalo ribeyes, and the best ground beef ever. Fresh chicken and DUCK eggs(delish!). Herbs, veggies, and the occasional fruit. There’s even locally made goat cheese and Gulf shrimp. In the dry goods selection, there are all kinds of canned goods, soaps, handcrafts — there’s sure to be something for whoever you need to buy a gift for. Heck, we even bought a side table made from reclaimed materials — a STEAL for $ 50! The folks who run this place are great, too. It’s so nice to develop a relationship with the people who sell you food. BPM makes our little corner feel more like a community. I can NEVER remember they’re closed on Mondays, but that’s my problem, not theirs. :]

I’ve been passing by the Bastrop Producers Marker for months and months, meaning to take a look, and yesterday I did. I shouldn’t have waited so long… As someone who has given a lot of thought to going vegetarian, but ultimately decided against it, I think a good bit about how the meat that I eat is produced. It’s a harsh life for many of the animals that we eat… I can reconcile the act of killing and eating another living creature, because I think that’s our basic biology and I don’t mind being a homo sapiens, but I’d rather that the cows I eat get to graze on grass and fart, the pigs get to wallow in mud, and the chickens get to scratch in the dirt. I want them to live their lives as cows and pigs and chickens naturally live, and so I don’t care so much for the relative cruelty of industrial farming and the meat products that come from it. Enter BPM, where I find good beef, pork, chicken, eggs, even buffalo that pacifies the carnivore in me without overly offending the more gentle sensibilities that I possess. I dig the heck out of that. There’s a ton of other stuff there too… crafted items, canned goods(I scored some awesome hot pickled carrots), organic produce, plants, it’s really a nice little shop. I’m pretty sure I’ll be stopping in once a week or so, now that I’ve got the lay of the place.

This alternative farmers market was such a great find on a recent trip to Lost Pines. Located in a big red building on the south side of 71 between FM20 and H21BPM and open 6 days a week unsure of their hours but I know they are open till 6PM every day except Monday(closed). Since they are inside they are open 6 days a week rain or shine. They are set up like an inside FM with freezers for meat and prepared meals. My big score of the day was the Bastrop Cattle Company beef(see my previous review for the details)! I was also able to pick up some organic carrots, sweet Texas onions and mushrooms that went into a beef stew I made today. They also had local tomatoes!!! I have not seen local tomatoes at the FM in months!!! There were many of the local venders I see at Sunset Valley and HOPEFM: Jake’s Natural Fine Foods, Kala’s Kuisine, Bastrop Cattle Co, Peach Creek, Nada Moo, Ruta Maya, Kombucha and some non local but awesome neccesities like Amy’s Organic soups and prepared meals, Braggs, and Dr. Bronner’s soaps. Also, they had a great selection of locally made gift items such as cards, jewelry, purses, Bible covers, hand woven throws and some beautiful handmade little girls dresses. If you happen to live in Bastrop or South Austin don’t pass them by. And, if you don’t Bastrop happens to have a beautiful charming Historic Town Square. BPM is a not to be missed point of interest while visiting Bastrop. Oh and they except Visa and MC in addition to checks and cash!

My husband and I always see this place driving to Austin from Bastrop on 71. Usually it’s not a convenient time to stop due to our plans in Austin, but once we figured out that this place had local produce, etc., we decided we needed to visit ASAP. We love the farmer’s markets in Bastrop, but sometimes it’s hard to get there on Saturday mornings, and often by the time we do get there, they are out of things that we need(such as eggs). So anyway, this seemed like it would be a nice alternative. One day we were headed to Bastrop HEB to buy weekly groceries and some ingredients for a chicken version of shepherd’s pie I wanted to try out, but missed our exit. So we decided to drive on to the Producers Market. I’m very glad we did! We were the only customers, and the fairly large space was only sparsely filled with things for sale. But this place had so much more than your typical farmer’s market! Loose tea, citrus fruit, honey, salsa, Ruta Maya coffee, jewelry, purses, all the basic veggies, etc. Even kombucha! Looked like they usually had more meat in the refrigerator case but it had been picked over. There were also some prepared items such as soups or small meal portion things. We recognized many items from the downtown Bastrop farmer’s markets. We saw some regular grocery(non-local, I mean) items such as Amy’s Soups(we love those) and Dr. Bronner’s soaps. We have a stocked pantry at home and not that much extra money(thanks, student loan repayment!), so this time we just got some white button mushrooms, a tomato, and a yellow onion. Total was only 3 dollars and change, so I am really impressed with the prices! We will definitely be back! Please check this place out!
