Don’t know why such rave reviews. The place was barely adequate and nothing special. Beef brisket was very tough. It did have a good smoke in the meat, and the bark was pretty good. But the toughness was not desirable. We tried both the lean cut and the regular cut. I’m a «keep that fat on the meat» person, but some of these slices had almost a 1″ wide piece of fat(that was also a bit tough). That’s too much. The sauce was adequate. But spices Sides: Cole Slaw — they need to call it shaved cabbage and carrots. That’s all it was. No mayo, no vinegar, no salt & pepper. Just cabbage with a few carrot shavings. That is not Cole Slaw. Dirty Rice: now this was excellent. Fries: good, but very small side size. Potato Salad: very tasty. Don’t know if it was homemade or from a tub. Overall value based on quality and quantity for price is low. Won’t stop again, will try a different place in the area.

Fabulous food. Our party of four tried the chicken, ribs, brisket, burgers, coleslaw, potato salad, and dirty rice. We enjoyed every bite. Noteworthy is only outdoor dining and out houses. Don’t be fooled by the looks of the place, it was a great experience.

Fitties is off the chain! The dirty rice is amazing and the potato salad is my favorite in Austin! JO(the owner) takes so much pride in his food and you can taste it! Great marinades and the perfect among of BBQ on everything! If you are on you’re way in or out of Austin, make sure to stop by!

Love it. Better than its higher rated competition down the street!!! Best chicken, ribs and sausage and a tastey sauce like my Dad used to make!

Summary– Decent roadside BBQ place with charm. Food– 3 Stars Sliced brisket was pretty darned awesome, ribs were just OK. Everything was smothered in their sauce, which is a pet peeve of mine, and the sauce was a little sweet for me. Coleslaw was good, dirty rice was meh. Atmosphere– 4 Stars Cool roadside outdoor seating type deal. Clean as it could be. Value– 5 Stars Inexpensive for what we got. Service– 4 Stars Very friendly and quick.

It is a little hole on the wall with great food. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Brisket and sausage and ribs. Yummy

I was talking to a friend about a BBQ spot down the road from Fitties and he said that he preferred Fitties. Well, I had to check this place out! Once I arrived, I realized that I had been here before 3 years ago but I failed to write a review. I ordered ribs, beef brisket and sausage with side orders of dirty rice and green beans. Above all, I thought the dirty rice was great. The meats had BBQ sauce poured over them which hid the true flavor of the meat and rubs on the ribs and brisket. I didn’t care much for the seasoning on the ribs and the brisket didn’t have that bark that I’m accustomed to. Although Fitties accept credit cards, there is a minimum purchase of $ 15. My 3-meat order was less than $ 15 so I ordered a beef brisket plate to go with the sauce on side which allowed me to appreciate the beef brisket more. The sides were cole slaw and pinto beans. The beans were mundane but the cole slaw was very nice and not swimming in mayonnaise. If I decide to patronize Fitties again, I’ll first stop by my bank’s ATM and get cash.

Good had great flavor. Sausage was great, brisket was good with flavor but little grissly, bbq sauce was really good with spice, dirty rice was really good, and breakfast wrap had outstanding flavor. People were nice, but very quit couldn’t hear them with the traffic noise.

Base on the Unilocal review and we decide to give this place a try and it is not good. The briskets are dry, tasteless and full of fat. The ribs are about the same and nothing special.

I am giving this place 3 stars mostly because it’s such a cute little local bbq joint. I do not love chains and try not to eat at any, especially when I travel. This place was so cute. It’s outdoor seating(which is the only seating) has a good ambiance. Lots of seating, clean bathrooms, and cute décor including light strands draped overhead. The food was okay. My son got the chicken and it had a good bit of decent sauce on it. It was a little dry but still good. The sides aren’t fresh and they were out a few but I like that they even have dirty rice as an option, and it was pretty good. I for the chopped beef sandwich and it was good. Plenty of brisket and sauce with onions and pickles like I’d expect. Can beverages and decent burgers for a little place on the highway. I would stop here again, I’d like to try the ribs.

I really liked this cute little roadside BBQ joint in Bastrop. It had a great outdoor area; plenty of room for the kids to run around while waiting on your food. They have great prices and good combo deals. The boys got cheeseburgers. They come fully loaded, so if you don’t like certain toppings or condiments, make sure to tell them. I had the sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good and a bit spicy. I wanted potato salad, but they were out, however the cole slaw and green beans were fine. I love BBQ. And the way I judge a BBQ restaurant is by its brisket. Unfortunately, this did not live up to it. The brisket was fine, but I’ve had much better. It was a bit dry and chewy. The one thing this place loves is its sauce. It slathers everything in sauce, which I’m ok with. But if you’re not, I’d ask for it on the side. I’d definitely stop here again and try something else, maybe the ribs.

We woke up early to head out to Houston from Austin. My stomach was not having a wait, so i found this little gem through Unilocal. It was the nearest spot to us. Boy, definitely did NOT disappoint. Highly recommend the Marty. Very savory. Has brisket bits, beans, potatoes, cheese, and a THICK slice of bacon wrapped with a flour tortilla. ERMAGAHHHH. What makes it better, it’s only a whopping $ 3.69. Drooooools

Unilocal Fam I’m on the late freight again. This visit was from 6⁄2013. I remember stopping at the eatery on the way to work after having heard about it thru a coworker. I was to say the least underwhelmed. I haven’t tried the bbq but from the breakfast tacos which I recall throwing away it’s a 2 thumbs down. I recall thinking… the sausage tastes like the kind you get off a totinos pizza. The potatoes seemed undercooked to me as well on my bacon, potato and egg. I’ve not tried the bbq as I stated and my review may change but breakfast is a no.

Leaving a wedding– we stopped by for a last minute breakfast taco, because I was SO Hungry. It took a while, but when it came, you could tell it was cooked fresh, super large, very filling. Put pretty much all breakfast tacos to shame(except for this one time in Alpine, TX.) Anyone else wanna go to Bastrop to visit this place again?

Fall off the bone ribs. Simple, no frills barbecue. Very good. Highly recommend coming here. Breakfast tacos are huge. The brisket taco was bland despite having plenty of sauce. Still I’d go back here again and again. Very good.

FYI the $ 2 sides are miniature. We were not happy about that when we got a $ 2 side of beans that contained 30 beans. I have eaten quite a bit of bbq and have found that buying by the pound is often a better bargain, so I went with that philosophy at Fities. My husband and I wanted to try the brisket and sausage, however, they were out of sausage, so we went with a pound of brisket and a side of beans. The brisket was good, the bbq sauce was great, the beans were mediocre. Our daughter ordered Lucy’s Special, a lean brisket sandwich and she enjoyed it, after she scraped the onions off. She got french fries for her side and they were pretty good. If we come back, we will order the sandwich combos, as they seem to be a much better deal.

Parking: Small parking lot. Maybe 10 cars max. Also note that there is no indoor seating at this place. Time and Day: Ate on a Sunday morning, and there was a very short line. However, do note that if you want brisket, you would want to come later in the afternoon. Food: It was very good. Ordered the brisket and ribs plate with the coleslaw and potato salad as the two sides. All I can say is the meat was moist, tender, and delicious. In fact, if you sit in the back, you can see the owner cooking the meat. Service: The owner is VERY friendly and helpful. He joked around with us and always had a smile. Price: For my 2 meat plate and 2 side orders, it only cost $ 10. It was enough for me and my girlfriend. Very CHEAP for the delicious plate. Looking at the menu, they also have very cheap breakfast burritos(under $ 3) that are huge!

Forget waiting 2+ hours for the BBQ places in Austin and drive straight to Fitties. This place has the best BBQ I have tried in Texas. Also, the owner may be the nicest person I’ve ever met! My boyfriend and I stopped here on our drive to Houston because the breakfast tacos had great reviews. Get the MARTY and no breakfast taco will ever suffice for you again. It’s a humongous taco filled with potato, egg, cheese, bacon, brisket and BBQ sauce. And only $ 2.39! I also made my own with chorizo and egg but had to save this for lunch. On our way home to Austin we stopped by for some BBQ dinner. We got a portion of every meat in order to give the BBQ a proper evaluation. The pork ribs and BBQ sauce are the best I’ve ever had, hands down. I loved the chicken and sausage as well. We had leftovers for days because the portions are such a good price. While we waited for our food the owner let us sample his beans and rice, the peach cobbler, and the bread pudding. Like I said, he is the nicest man and his BBQ should be shared with the world. It’s only 30 min outside of Austin and 100% worth the drive!

Dang son, this place is LEGIT. We came here on our way from Houston to Austin on a late Friday afternoon. We tried stopping at some spots closer to Houston on the way but all of them had closed up for the day because they’d sold out. It was approaching 5 p.m. and I was starting to get worried I wasn’t going to get any BBQ, so I called ahead to Fitties. The guy who answered the phone said, «Oh YEAH honey! We still got ERRYTHANG!» Awww yisssss. We pulled up and parked next to this little shack. The owner greeted us warmly and, upon seeing our obvious indecision about what to order, provided us with free little samples of the dirty rice and the bread pudding. The bread pudding was OK, but the dirty rice — damn it was good! We ended up going with 2 two-meat plates, one chicken and ribs for me, and the other brisket and sausage for my friend, with cole slaw and green beans on the side for me and potato salad and dirty rice on the side for her. Meats: The chicken was great, juicy with a crispy skin. The sausage was also very good — spicy and very juicy. The brisket was, sadly, only OK. I’m not a brisket fan to begin with so it has to be otherworldly to impress me. From a purely technical standpoint, it was well-made: Perfect smoke ring, great texture, nice spicing and a good smoky flavor. But just a teeny bit dry and chewy. Now, the ribs — I am a ribs aficionado. And these ribs were GOOD. Most people don’t realize that ribs are supposed to be tender enough that they juuuuust cling to the bone, but not so overcooked that they literally fall off the bone when you pick it up. And these were PERFECT. The flavor was also out of this world. I saw someone else complained about too much fat on the ribs — whaaaaat! The meat: fat ratio was just perfect — lots more meat than fat. Sides: The cole slaw was pretty good. The green beans were OK — I like tons of bacon and only found a couple pieces. But still good! Tasted like they may have been home-canned. The potato salad was VERY good and you’ve already heard my raving on the dirty rice. The bathrooms are clean so it’s a good spot to stop. And as others have noted: $ 15 minimum for credit cards, and they do have breakfast tacos(sadly we had wayyyy too much food to sample these). I will definitely be back for the breakfast tacos!
