Lake Bastrop – South Shore Park

A great place to go fishing and relax. We loved the place, great cabin. We were there April 05,2015 and had a great time. Great place to bring your family for fun and relaxation. We will return, no doubt about it.

Beautiful park with plenty of shade and cabins for rent. Cabins have bunk beds and a/​c, but the mattresses are half a step up from camping on the ground. May take a week for my back to be fully functional again.
Swim area is great, it’s sectioned off from boating, with a sandy bottom. Only drawback is how warm the water is. We are hitting the pool at Bastrop State Park today instead. The warm water is good for fishing though, so bring a pole.

5 Star w/​in category of a Cabin within 30 Minutes of Austin. Compared to National Parks? 3 stars.
YAY:
— Clean cabins, clean restrooms
— Nice design blocks early dawn light
–A/​C and electricity (So, no, you aren’t officially camping. But… they do have bugs !)
— Some Cabins are dog friendly
— Nice beach area
— TREES !
— Easy hiking trails. Even brought a new-​born
— $ 30 bucks gets you a canoe for 24 hours if you are renting a cabin
— Far an away better than Bastrop State Park. Sadly, BSP still has no trees. :(

— No dogs in beach area
— No alcohol (We assumed that just means you have to hide it.)
— Other than the beach area, the lake is sea-​weed central. Great for fishing (I assume, since lots of folks were doin it) but not so great for extensive swimming.
— No camp store to speak of. But… 2 miles down the road is an HEB that could give a Super Walmart a run for it’s money. Even has gluten free goodies like the ever important GF Graham Crackers for the making of smores
— Ah… smores… made on a charcoal grill b/​c… of course… burn ban
