Upstart is a spunky little community arts facility in Bastrop, run by the amazing Carolyn Banks. It offers several classes a month on subjects related to filmmaking (e.g,. screenwriting, location sound, production, etc.) all at very reasonable prices. I took a film sound class taught by Austin-​based location audio guru, Wayne Brisette, and learned more in four hours than a year’s worth of similar courses. Upstart is located in a pretty basic building but don’t let that fool you — the beauty is on the ‘inside’ as they say.
