After thinking about getting our two kids(6 and 8) into Taekwondo for a while, we decided to stop by Initial TKD and check it out one Saturday morning about 3 months ago. We were immediately greeted by one of the friendly instructors and the kids invited to join in the class that was going on at that time. Our oldest joined right in but her younger brother was reluctant. However, after seeing how much fun it was and how friendly the instructors were he too joined in. By the end of the class they were breaking boards and sold on Initial TKD! The instructors are very good with small children and made ours feel very comfortable right away. This, combined with a few other things made our decision easy to join up that day! Firstly, the flexibility they offer. There are no long-term contracts to sign. Everything is month-to-month. Second, the flexibility they offer. They offer classes at set times but you are free to attend any of them at your choosing — you are not locked into a specific time or day of the week. This is great for us as our schedule seems to change week to week and we tend to go when it fits into our schedule rather than making our schedule work around theirs. Third, with two paid family members, all other family members can attend free. Because of this, my wife and I are also taking lessons and loving it! There is a really growing group of adults at the school and we are having fun not only doing this together as a family, but also with the other adults. Fourth, uniforms are included at no extra charge. Lastly, there is no formal testing for rank promotion. The instructors personally pay attention to how you are progressing during the normal course of classes and when they see you have accomplished all you need to for your belt, you are able to promote. No nerve-racking testing in front of the whole group, which is great for our kids who don’t take stress well. They still have a formal promotion ceremony, but it is more about showing off, having fun and celebrating than anything else. We can’t be happier with our decision to start our TKD adventure at Initial TKD and can’t recommend it enough. So, if you’re looking for a fun, flexible and family-oriented school with owners/instructors that care, this is the place for you!
