Ok I have to start out by saying I’m just a dumb man who knows nothing about girls dresses but I needed to get my daughter a homecoming dress. I took her to a couple department store and they were a disaster. No help and no one that could answer a question. A female friend suggested Special Occasions in Batavia. OMG they were awesome so helpful and attentive they made my daughter feel like a Princess. Even better they made her feel confident in her choice of dresses as well as making sure that they sold no one at her school the same dress. I wish I had started there.

I purchased a prom dress for my daughter from Special Occasions. They had such a great selection! The dress we purchased is beautiful & timeless. Mary helped us & she was wonderful. Mary made my daughter and I feel special even with a crowded store. What a nice experience & memory of shopping for my daughter’s prom dress. :)

Incredible selection, latest styles, outstanding service. And definitely NOT the shop to go to if you are looking for last season’s bargain basement priced, run of the mill dresses. Purchased a Homecoming dress for my daughter last October and we were both treated courteously and professionally. The dress and school were noted in their files so another girl going to this same dance could not purchase an identical gown. I live in town and have watched this store exceed many girls’ expectations over the years. They do not «up sell», push accessories, or rush you through a purchase. Special Occasions On The Avenue is a gem in the heart of downtown Batavia!

They have a nice selection of dresses if you wear smaller sizes. They do have a few in larger sizes. After my daughter tried on a few dresses and we went out to look at the dresses again, no one talked to us again. It has been my experience with other stores that they will at the very least offer to look to see if the dress can be ordered. Budget was not a concern for us. We found a dress elsewhere and will skip this shop when looking for homecoming and prom dresses next year.

My experience with Special Occasions is not a personal one, but I wanted to write a review anyway. I worked with Special Occasions, and Mary in particular, for a major event at the high school I work for. We do a male beauty pageant each year, and a local dress shop allows us to «borrow» dresses for the evening for the ladies involved in the formal wear portion. We have worked with Special Occasions now for two years, and our experience with them has been great. They are incredibly patient with the high school girls involved in the show who go in to have fittings, and have an incredible selection of unique dresses. The girls looked absolutely beautiful and had only positive reviews of the store employees. I would highly recommend this location for all of your Prom and Wedding needs!
