only eat pasture raised meat, and so when Im in Oxford(a 30 min drive) I go to The Farmers Market on N Lamar to get thier meat products, which they get all from Stans. Everything I have ever gotten there is excellent.. I recently purchased pastrami– that was the BEST pastrami I ever had, and I spent 18 years in NYC; pastrami land– never had anything like that. 5 stars for Stans

A locally owned and operated business, Stan’s Country Store is a butcher shop with a tiny attached market. The meat — specifically their pork — comes from the healthiest and happiest pigs anywhere offered for sale near Oxford. Unlike supermarket meat, Stan’s pigs aren’t weened early, living their genetically altered, miserable existence confined in a pen on a diet of industrial corn, hormones and antibiotics. Stan’s pigs live on pasture and forest edge, eating the feed grown for them, living a life of pig bliss, rooting and communing with fellow pigs. The benefit of all this is obvious when you taste any of their meat, which, in my opinion, is the best I have ever purchased and prepared. So far I have served and savored loin, ribs, chops, bacon and pancetta, guanciale and italian, chorizo and boudin sausages. There is simply no equal in this area, unless you raise, butcher and cure your own meat. It is also less expensive than Kroger. An added convenience to people living in Oxford is that nearly everything Stan’s sells is available at the Farmer’s Market on Old Highway 7/North Lamar and if it isn’t there, you can order it to be delivered there, which saves the drive out east. Stan’s is a local treasure and should be protected and nurtured, which is why I give them my business and why I tell everyone I know to do the same.
