My husband and I loved the Baton Rouge Zoo. We went on a Sunday afternoon. It took an about a couple of hours to go through. The animals were out and about. The park is beautiful and we’ll maintained. We didn’t go on the train ride, but we plan on it when we go back.

Brew at the Zoo 2015. Awesome! Good food! Great beer! Will definitely be back next year. The Zoo was very clean like always & park employees did a great job keeping up with everything!

This zoo is abysmal. Don’t be confused by the 5 star rating, I want this to be seen by all. My family and I visited recently. We understand that this is Louisiana and it’s hot outside, but we hardly saw any animals. The animals we did see looked miserable, mainly the monkeys. Their cages, which are made of concrete and metal(how cozy!) had nothing in them but a pathetic display of old tree limbs. The black and white monkeys were all laying on the bottom of their cage, looking terrible, my son thought one was dead! I asked someone if the zoo has a full time veterinarian and they do not. Poor animals. So what does the zoo do when there is an animal emergency if there is no vet there? We don’t want to know. We will never go back. It’s too depressing.

Very nice and quaint zoo. I loved it! Everything is super cheap and not overpriced. The animals were mostly awake when we were there! Which is never the case when I frequent Houston zoo. The train ride is really fun and brings you through the swamp which is a sight to see! Only downfall was that the squirrels were eating all the dang birds food, But I guess they didn’t care lol

Of course the weather has something to do with this review as it is high 60s temperature and a slight breeze — ie chamber of commerce weather — but the Baton Rouge zoo has had some new additions recently — a rhino, 2 tiger cubs, geese, wolf and more which adds to its appeal. The size of the zoo is small enough such that the little ones can enjoy the entire zoo without getting too tired or the adult can comfortably pass through it in 60 – 120 minutes. Today the otter exhibit was not available but overall definitely a nice visit today with a return desired before the end of the year

We always enjoy our family days when we come here and though it’s not the absolute best zoo ever, it is getting better. They have recently redone the tiger exhibit and it’s really nice. Some of the monkey, bird and small cat exhibits could really use some help and are kind of sad. The play area for the children is great and the barn with the petting area is fun too. The food, however is atrocious! Just pure fast food junk sorry to say. I always pack our lunches when we go there. As a health fanatic, I cannot bear us eating that food!

A great place to enjoy a sunday morning. The admission price was very reasonable at 8.25 for each adult. Zoo grounds were almost deserted which made the walk with the animals very peaceful. The exhibits are laid out in a circle. The animals have good space to roam and the fences are low enough so you can see them clearly. We really enjoyed the tigers and the parrot paradise. The aquarium was also a nice break from the heat. I liked the variety of fish and how there were open tanks to watch the catfish. Worth a visit while you’re in town!

Baton Rouge Zoo is a really great way for families to spend the day! The highlight for us is the train ride — my kiddies just love that! I too love it! The breeze is so nice on a balmy day. Recently they were fundraising for updated elephant habitat. They seem to always be updating. The zoo is very clean and overall pleasant. There are lots of trees for shade. The zoo is larger then one might expect. We saw many animals. The otter exhibit was quite fun for the kids. Otters are very entertaining critters. We encountered a macaw that said ‘cracker’ — which was also quite entertaining. The aquarium was also pretty neat. Have a full gas tank and a picnic lunch ready. Do note your directions well BEFORE going as the areas around the zoo appear better to pass through without stopping for directions or provisions.

They were not packed on the day we visited(which was a Tuesday Morning in June). The animals were somewhat active, but it was also 95 degrees so I too would want to lay around. We were upset about the missing Elephants, but we found out one died so they had to send the other Elephant to another Zoo(they need companionship). My son enjoyed the other animals, especially the Giraffes.

The Baton Rouge Zoo is surprisingly awesome! I came here with pretty low expectations. I didn’t think Baton Rouge would be able to support a zoo of any real size, but I was wrong. There are tons of animals here, it’s a great place to walk around and enjoy a beautiful day and see some cool animals you might have never seen before. I was impressed by the elephants, giraffes, vultures and other birds of prey, alligators, zebras, and monkeys. They also have a petting zoo for kids and an adorable little train that takes you around the whole zoo. I recommend this place for anyone, young or old, who wants to spend a day outside of the suburban wasteland that is Baton Rouge.
