Meghan has been doing my hair for years now, and when she moved back in town to work at Gaudet Bros, I was beyond excited! The thought of building a relationship with a new stylist just stressed me out. Like any good stylist, Meghan really listens to what you want and will work endlessly to make sure you’re happy. I love that this is a local business within the Mid City Merchants Association. I’ve heard many great things about the other two people there. I’ve actually ended up taking my wheelchair-bound grandmother to Meghan as well, because she’s so accommodating and can really nail any style you want.

One of my proudest«discoveries» of the year is Gaudet Brothers, this bespoke salon on a busy part of Government Street. I first stumbled in(quite literally, due to previous imbibing) during the Hot Art, Cool Nights event, where local galleries, eateries, and other businesses open their doors for an evening to welcome in curious passers-by. Boy, am I glad I did. See, before Gaudet appeared on my radar, I had been driving ten miles to a friend-of-a-friend’s shop way out on Millerville Road for a haircut that — let’s face it — frequently left me ambivalent. But, after all, where is there to get your hair cut in Midcity that isn’t a sad, dirty Great Clips but also doesn’t smell like hairspray and feature 1993 Paul Mitchell posters hanging on the wall? One place I know of — Gaudet Brothers. The shop itself is refreshingly ungendered and modern. Instead of torturous vinyl chairs, how about their comfortable couch? And what’s that on the coffee table — music and architecture magazines instead of a stack of 18 month old Redbook and Cosmopolitan? Speaking of music, you mean to tell me they play custom Spotify playlists instead of FM radio top 40 excrement? And is that the gentlest greyhound in the world curled up on a blanket in the corner? With living-room amenities like this, you will actually WANT to wait a few minutes before you hop in the chair. But let’s talk about the services. Despite my three cowlicks and tendency to fidget whilst sitting, I have never had a haircut from Coy at Gaudet Brothers that is anything less than supremely satisfying. That’s because these folks understand that a superior haircut comes from auteurship informed by feedback. They’ve been cutting hair for years and years, so they know what looks good. Similarly, you’ve been having hair for years and years, so you know what feels right. Partner with your stylist at Gaudet, therefore, and you are virtually guaranteed to leave looking good and feeling right. Let me put it this way — I felt positive enough about the place to recommend it to my wife, and now she’s a believer too. Miscellany: despite an appreciable amount of grey for my age, I have no need for hair color, but their coloring station looks more formidable than Bob Ross’ studio. Also, you can book any service online from a web browser or iOS /Android app — this is a life changer for me. To summarize, Gaudet Brothers is a unique, wonderful spot where millennials and Gen-Xers will feel most at home, but the environment, friendliness, and(most importantly) results transcend age, space, and time.

Micah has been cutting my hair for 8 years. I wouldn’t let anyone else touch it. He is smart, stylish, and keeps my hair looking its best. He always carries great salon products that cannot be found anywhere else in Baton Rouge.
