Darn Donuts

Holy moley these donuts are no joke. Big fluffy and you feel like you’ll have a heart attack in a good way :) I also had the black coffee, which is a good way to judge coffee and gotta say it’s pretty darn good. Better than that boiling water they serve you in dunkin donuts across the street. I’ll def be back here for a late night dessert. Or a morning coffee! Another thing, I think this place would make a pretty good catering choice for a kids birthday or some corporate event. Keep up the good work guys! And support local business!

This place has great donuts. Period. The selection is interesting and fun, and the donuts themselves are light, fluffy, and taste like a non-​chain donut shop donut should taste. There is seating, should you choose to eat in. Furthermore, what’s great about this place, is that it’s not a hipster-​like place with donuts that are too cool for school, and it’s not some fancy artisnal shop. It’s fresh, tasty and fun donuts, with beverage options and no gimmicks. Go check them out!

Hi Darn Donuts! I’ve given you a 5 star review! Not for the business you are, but for the one you could be! Your donuts are delicious, but the atmosphere in your shop leaves much to be desired. I’ve been there three times, and each time the store was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Perhaps some music and a TV or two on mute so the solo donut eater has something to affix their eyes on. Some more comfortable seating would be nice too. Perhaps some diner like booths along the right side as you walk in? Im a big guy (as many donut fans probably are) and the seating you have now feels like I am sitting at a children’s birthday party on a cheap lawn chair that’s about to break beneath me. Also, the overall décor of the store is horrific. It’s like a nightmare taking place in pee wees playhouse. Its an assault on the senses. One last thing, perhaps feature some other drinks besides coffee? I love donuts, but I hate coffee. Maybe some boutique sodas like Boylans and Stewart’s or/​and even Pepsi coke, etc. How could it hurt? See Dunkin Donuts, they do pretty well. :)
Im a life long Bay Ridge resident who eats out five or six times a week. I hate to see businesses like yours fail, especially when the product is good, but if the number of people in your store when I walk by six or seven times a week are any indication, that’s a real possibility. Make some or all of these changes, and I guarantee you’ll see more customers. Thanks for reading!

This place is great! They have so many interesting flavors. The atmosphere is pleasant and the donuts are always fresh.

After looking at all of the pictures of pretzels and Oreo toppings galore I figured this would be your above average donut spot. I walked in around 6ish and was sad to find that there were about 5 donut types left – the majority of which were standard flavors. I opted for one of their specialities (darn donut). While the dough was somewhat light the strawberry cream inside was super artificial. I would merit the cream worse than Dunkin Donuts. I’ll probably give it one more shot to check out the slightly more unusual flavors, but I was pretty disappointed. I didn’t finish the donut and I always make plenty of room for dessert!

I haven’t been back to Bay Ridge in a real long while… And I feel like I’ve had my fair share of donuts from Donut Plant to even the usual Dunkin’ Donuts. I was expecting really good donuts… from the looks of all the donuts, it seems quite creative and delicious… but unfortunately for me… it doesn’t hit the mark. I got the darn donut, Oreo donut, and Caramel Popcorn donut. The Oreo donut was just a plain donut with vanilla icing and an oreo /​oreo crumbs on top… Darn Donut was a little better with the strawberry crème inside… but to me it was a little too sweet for my taste. Caramel Donut was not bad.
I guess for the price… I rather spend an extra $ 1-​$ 2 more at Donut Plant for phenomenal donuts… but for the area it is something new…

I tried Darn Donuts’ house special: the Darn Donut. It’s a frosting filled doughtnut. It’s comparable to the quality of Dunkin Donuts. The doughnuts are pretty large and comparable in size to those from Dough. Be sure to arrive early because they run out of many offerings in the late afternoon.

I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn’t happen. I got half a dozen donuts and most of them tasted stale. I was hoping it would be better than the DD across the street, but for $ 2 – 2.50 per donut and what I got, I might as well head back the other way.
The best was probably the glazed, though it’s not good enough for me to go back for it. Nothing much was happening with the Brooklyn cream donut, that was what I was looking forward to. The other donuts weren’t even memorable enough for me to recall what they were. Please, please, please work on the donuts, perhaps expand your menu a bit, and maybe do explore some possible changes in décor? It’s at a great location, with such a big space, I love all the seating, and with people’s inevitable love and cravings for donuts, I see so much potential in the future.

Three important factors for me when going to eat-​1) clean 2) customer service 3) tastiness. This shop gets ⁵⁄₅ for all factors. Everything was super clean! It shows that the employees are on top of the maintenance. The girl at the cashier is pleasant and polite. I couldn’t choose which donut to buy because they all looked so good and she helped me with recommendations. I ended up buying a glazed croissant (A MUST!!!) and a chocolate pudding donut. They were so delicious that I couldn’t resist taking a few to go. Oh and the coffee… $ 2 for a large and it’s rich?! Now I get the hype about this place. I highly recommend it. I’m coming back for more!

Great place, i had a Nuttela Donut and if i recall the name properly Oreo Cookie Donut. Both were very good.
Really cool décor, you can have a date in their shop or just seat and enjoy a coffee and a donut. Window is large and clean so you can seat, drink, eat and people watch.

Just had my first donut from Darn Donuts & let me tell you, I am not a big fan of donuts but holy donuts !! The signature «darn donut» was superb the donut is stuffed with this strawberry, vanilla cream that legit blew my mind! The staff is friendly & the coffee is an excellent blend. I’m not even from the neighborhood but definitely will be bringing friends & family here to try them out as well. Whoever owns this place definitely has an eye for creativity!

Not sure how to explain my experience. As an avid eater of everything (cruelty free) from every culture, these remind me of Polish doughnuts (Ponchiki). However, it seems to be a hit or a miss in regards to quality (talking about oily doughnuts)
My particular doughnut was not soggy, or oily, but fluffy. I got an apple pie flavour, and was disappointed with the sheer veracity of fillings. It was a god-​damned lie!
Other than the lack of filling, the flavour and the inconsistency seem to be too much of a DIY project you find in someone’s occasional baking kitchen, rather than a commercial establishment, although a much better alternative to DD.

DARN DONUTS are right. These darn donuts are bound to give you a fucking instant shot of diabetes. To be honest the donuts really aren’t the best but aren’t the worse. They’re affordable, creative, big, fun and definitely differ from a run of the mill donut shop. It definitely tries something different with donuts but I also feel like it’s trying to hard to be different if that makes any sense. I respect the effort but it doesn’t excel. Now, don’t get me wrong, I pop up in this motherfucka when I have a sweet tooth and want to get a big fat donut to cure my sugar cravings and if I don’t feel like spending too much money at much better doughnut shops. With that being said, the donuts are a bit too sweet and too oily for me. It’s something I’ll have with a coffee once in a while.
Surprisingly, the coffee and coffee selection is good.
I also like the décor of the place. It’s really vibrant, colorful and makes you feel like you’re in some sort of Cartoon Network wonderland. Like Adventure Time or some shit.
Also, the staff are very nice and welcoming. I never got her name but whenever I do, I’ll update it but she’s a very nice young girl. I think she may be Russian or of some Eastern European ethnicity but she’s a real sweety pie. There should be a donut flavor after her.
Overall, if you’re a donut aficionado, I wouldn’t exactly recommend this place but at the same time maybe you would want to just for the hell of it. To say you came here. Plus, I DO want to see this place succeed.

Darn Donuts.. where do I begin. I can’t tell if I thought you were amazing, or terrible. Why is your branding so ugly? Are you a japanese animé themed frozen yogurt shop? I don’t get it. Your walls are blinding and distracting. Stop it.
The filled donuts were strange. We had a Key Lime (!!) and an Apple Pie, which both had so much potential. The dough part was great, but the half teaspoon of filling you provided was not even worth the effort, and the glaze on top had the texture of chewed up gum. I suspected it was actually fondant but that would just be crazy, right?
The plain glazed, was phenomenal. Truly gave Dough a run for their money. I could see myself sending my husband out for these donuts on Sunday mornings, but please dear god get rid of the neon pink paint.

We are a local Bay Ridge Business. Admiral Insurance Brokerage. We love the Darn Donuts and our clients love them as well. The presentation is wow and they taste great! Its always so much fun to watch peoples reaction when they open the box. Great job you guys!!! Thank you for the fun and delicious food.

Darn Delicious

I don’t really understand why this place is getting so many bad reviews. I’ve pretty much tasted most of the donuts there and they are freakin’ delicious! Especially the Cheesecake and Peanut Butter and Jelly one. They were moist inside, with an exceptional taste.
I would rather go to Darn Donuts than the typical Dunkin Donuts. The donuts are fresh, flavorful and fulfilling. You’re definitely getting your moneys worth with the size of the donuts!
Do the donuts need a little bit more filling? Yes. But, they just opened up. Give them a chance and the donuts should get better and better over time.

The 1 star is for the young kids working behind the counter. Very friendly and cheery. Nice and helpful.
Unfortunately my experience was terrible due to the taste of these donuts. I went in the 1^st day they opened. Greeted by some lovely smiles and happy faces… They recommended the glaze and another funky one. I went with the glaze and plain frosted with sprinkles. Very hard and dry on the outside. Super oily greasy once you tear them apart. Pretty gross if you ask me.
I understand donuts are oily but DAMN. Too much oil. They should also be moist and have a chew to them. These were pretty bad unfortunately.
Perhaps they could change it up a bit not sure if I’ll be back. Sorry.

Wow these are bad.
We bought a few different kinda to sample and they all had the texture and density of a bagel, a tough bagel.
Also, anything with chocolate glaze or filling has a horrible aftertaste.
We were excited to see this place open but the donuts are terrible, will never go back. There is a much better chain donut spot across the street and a bakery that makes the best donuts ever on 5^th ave in the 70’s. Longer walk but worth it!

Darn Donuts began as a dream several years ago, and has now come into fruition. Daniel, the owner lamented over the sad state of donuts in Bay Ridge and went and did something about it. That said, they’ve earned 4.4÷5.0 and here’s why…
It’s no secret that there’s little choice in the way of donuts here. You have countless Dunkin’ Donuts around, Cream Coffee (which offers Dough), and Mike’s Donuts, the two of which are far beyond the point of walkable for residents 80^th-​100^th Sts.
I came here soon upon hearing about their delayed soft opening and gorged on several donuts. I did enjoy them overall but I have to give you details on my account. Borrowing from the words of a good friend, JB, that can best be described as «zeppolesque»
In some instances, this is an apt description, but a majority of them are just as you’d expect of a yeast-​based donut– Big, fluffy, and loaded with ingredients. Ingredients in and of itself do not a great donut make. It’s the integration of these components that do desserts of any kind justice, and I feel it’ll take a little time to find themselves. The issues they had in the first weeks have been ironed out.
I’ve tried the strawberry cheesecake, which is rich and decadent but freshly loaded with strawberries and purée on top, with cream cheese filling. The Brooklyn Cream, was topped with white chocolate chips, and piped in with vanilla & chocolate cream. The Key Lime Pie was perhaps the one I enjoyed the most as it had a thin layer of frosting up top and injected with key lime filling. The Oreo donut was pretty good, as was the most recently introduced crackerjack donut, frosted with caramel, drizzled with chocolate, and topped sparingly with popcorn. The Fruity Pebbles which was added recently Apr’16 is pretty and also a good donut, worthy of picture taking and decent frosting+ cereal topping.
As with any other donut shop, you can rely on their coffee, which is pretty good and inexpensive. $ 2 for a large is unheard of anywhere. Get it and try a donut while you’re at it. 4.4÷5.0
