Elite Event at The Lock Yard

My apologies first and foremost.
I’ve been super busy the past week and a half.
By busy I mean, drunk. Nevertheless it’s never a good enough excuse to not write my review of an event. I don’t care if my hypothetical son is being born. My baby mama could wait, because papa needs to write a review.
The event at Lockyard was terrific. Terrific for me, my friends, just no so much my gut.
The beers on tap were Octoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. Two beers that scream, eat with me if you dare. (I’m being honest I think I was drunk to the point where I thought the beer was talking to me.) These beers are quite heavy, but I’m not turning down beer. It’s the most important meal of the day and on the bottom of the food pyramid. Yes I know that makes no sense, but I don’t care.
The fried pickle with everything seasoning was wonderful. Best fried pickle I ever had, and I’ve had like four in my lifetime. The star of the show in my opinion was the empanada. Super tasty, with a nice spicy sauce. The hotdogs were solid, but after packages of leftover hotdogs from tailgating, all month I had a dog too many.
Thank you Lockyard. I may have found a reason to come to Bay Ridge. (Yes my sister lives there. What does that have to do with anything?) and thank you to Peter D, like always you found a great event to support our antics.

Gah! I’m so overdue for this review. I’ll keep it brief.
Who knew there was such awesomeness beyond Tanoreen in Bay Ridge? Or, that there was a pretty epic backyard behind a tiny bar up front?
Everything at this event was, again, fantastic. The staff at Lock Yard was wonderful! We were in the back, and they kept making sure we had a chance to taste everything (except for the tacos :(). Great pumpkin beer from Blue Point and a wonderfully chill atmosphere.
I guess now that the R is a real train again, I’m going to have to ride it more often. Bay Ridge demands more exploration. Lock Yard was merely the gateway venue to make it happen!

I was exuberant to find another YEE in West (Southwest) Brooklyn! Living in Sunset Park, I am used to having to traverse the subway system to reach these. The Lockyard I am already familiar with, so I was extra happy to return to this great location!
Sister to Ho’Brah Tacos also in Bay Ridge, Lock Yard offers a large communal are for you to get your drank on, and a large outside garden to work on your tan while you’re not working on anything else.
I tried both beers avail to us, and loved them both — the pumpkin ale as well as the October. Though I was unable to eat any of the snacks (non vegan) the fried pickles smelled delicious! (Minus the egg)
A great event, with great friends. You are all amazing. :)

After that huge, fancy party in LIC the day before, a casual drink at a sweet bar is just what the doctor ordered. I love dressing up, but sometimes I just need to chill out with chill people — and this place definitely invites the chill crowd. The beer flowed like water, but the only real trouble was the handful that jumped everyone coming out of the kitchen!
I didn’t get much in the way of food, we seemed to have overwhelmed the staff by just a little. However, what I did get was solid. I could eat a whole plate of those Jack Daniels wings! The chili cheese dog was pretty tasty too, and I’m not even a big chilly fan. I was also reliably informed that the tofu dogs were quite good, despite taking a while to get out since they had to be specially made while the rest of the kitchen was in overdrive.
Shout-​out to the dude who dropped a literal tray of beers on me — it happens to everyone bro. And also to May and Chary, for being really coool in general.

After a huge event in LIC the night before, it was fantastic to have a low key event at a Brooklyn gem. I love fancy parties (who doesn’t) but its events like the Lock Yard that keep me coming back to Unilocal for more. You have more conversations and learn more about fellow Unilocalers in small events so when you get to BIG huge events, you have an easier time mingling between groups!
Now, I was hesitant at first about heading all the way down to the last stop on the R train. I’ve actually barely ridden on the R but it was completely worth it for the venue alone. The Lock Yard is just about a 5 min walk from the station which made the trip pretty easy to manage (except those steps on the G/​R transfer!). We walked in to a friendly smile from Peter D and grabbed our first drinks. They offered Oktoberfest and Pumpkin beer. Nothing like fall favorites to ring in the start of the cooler season. First thing I noticed about the bar is the plain white taps with a huge chalkboard toward the ceiling. I absolutely adore a bar with an ever changing beer selection. Finding a new favorite beer is a great experience and I highly recommend finding more bars like this. Another amazing feature of this bar is the back yard. We walked outside to a pleasantly cool evening after the unseasonably warm afternoon. The space is large, filled with a huge variety of tables in all shapes in sizes to provide for any size party. A large part of the space is covered and I noticed that they even have heaters for the colder months. The ceiling is adorned with paper lanterns and strings of lights. I think I even saw a projector (Movie night anyone???).
After a majority of us settled in with beer and good company, they started bringing out food. Fried pickles that were battered in what appeared to be an everything bagel, empanadas with verde sauce (OMNOMNOMNOM), spicy and jack daniels covered wings with buffalo sauce. Then the hot dogs began appearing. Three distinct types: Chili cheese dogs, relish topped and 4 mustard sauce with onions. I don’t often eat hot dogs but the few bites that I got before handing to my man were enough to tell me that they were good. The staff was very friendly and brought us rounds as it got later in the evening. They were very attentive and friendly.
Now that I know about this amazing spot, I’ll definitely consider coming down to Bay Ridge more often and Lock Yard will most definitely be a stop! Thanks to Unilocal and the lock yard for providing an amazing time on a quiet Tuesday night.

What a wonderful event hosted by Unilocal and our great sponsors! Ever since I heard about this place roughly about a year ago, I’ve been dying to try come check it out! I think it’s so awesome that we have a beer garden in the neighborhood! It’s nice because I can walk home and not worry about having a DD to get home. Score!
I was so excited when I saw the sign up for an elite event at Lock Yard! I immediately signed up and hoped I would get on the list! And I did!
Lock Yard has an indoor and outdoor space. I didn’t hang out in the inside part too much, but it was spacious. The outdoor space is really nice. It’s a decent size and I can see it getting crowded during the warm summer months. My favorite part about the outside is that they have a roof that they can either leave open or close depending on the weather. They also have this cool projector which is awesome for watching Giants and Ranger games! That’s the perfect setting for me to watch a sports game.
The people that I met that worked there that night were so nice! All of them from the servers to the bartenders, just everyone basically, were so genuinely nice. They stopped and chatted with you and were so polite which is another positive. I can’t stress how important it is to be nice to your customers.
Throughout the night, my glasses kept getting refilled without me even asking. I stuck with the pumpkin ale while my bf stuck with the Oktoberfest. The beers were nice and icy cold. As for the food, the fried pickles were amazing! I’ve never had fried pickles before and I’ll be back for these. They go well with beer! The hot dogs were also awesome. I love to eat hot dogs and it’s nice to see these on the menu.
We also got to sample some empanadas from Ho’Brah’s and they were delish! I actually tried going to Ho’Brah’s a while back, but the line was crazy long so we left and opted for Five Guys instead =(I’m glad we were given a taste of what to expect at Ho’Brah’s so that means we’ll definitely be going back to try the rest of their menu since the empanadas were delicious!

So this is what happens at Unilocal elite events…
It was my first Unilocal elite event ever and I’m super glad I came. I didn’t bring a plus one this time around but hey, why not meet other people that love food as much as me! I took the cautionary advice to eat prior to the event if I was gonna be hungry… fail on my part. There was plenty of food and beer!
They served fried pickles, chicken empanadas, wings, and hot dogs. Loved the chicken empanadas with the green sauce. That had to be the best. You also can’t go wrong with wings and beer.
Oh and the beer. I love fall seasonal beer. I tried both the pumpkin ale and octoberfest. Both were delish and tasted well with the appetizer-​like food. They also have a chalkboard wall listing other drafts available.
AND the atmosphere was super chill. There was an inside bar with a few tables but keep walking back and you’re led into this dimly lit cozy backyard setting. The weather was perfect to top it off. I now have a reason to come back this far south!

I’ve never been this far out on the R line. Long enough to fall asleep on the train, which never happens to me.
Lock Yard is a really cool space. We grabbed pumpkin beers from the small but cozy indoor bar and went out to the huge outdoor area where most of the Unilocalers were hanging out. Lots of cool lighting, picnic tables and umbrellas.
This event was definitely more chill and low-​key. Most of the Unilocalers were sitting down at the tables and the servers at Lock Yard were bringing food over, as opposed to people coming up and grabbing it. Points for being civilized, Brooklyn!
The only sore spot for me was that the servers blatantly ignored some of the smaller tables and brought food only to the larger tables. What’s up with that? As a result, I didn’t get to try some of the food because it never came my way and I wasn’t gonna be THAT GUY and approach the server for a portion. So yeah, my friend and I suffered some food envy as we watched Unilocalers luckier than us happily chowing down.
Thankfully, either the jealous looks on our faces became apparent or the servers finally figured it out, they started bringing us some food. Enjoyed the empanada and fried pickle. I nearly gave up on getting a hot dog but my friend managed to grab one for me. It was actually a very good hot dog.
Nonetheless, this was a fun event! Always nice to check out different neighborhoods. Thanks Peter D. and Lock Yard!

It’s crazy how different Unilocal events can be; the giant fancy ones are epic and can be SO much fun, but it’s the little intimate ones that are almost always the best. Don’t get me wrong, I love partying it up with sharply dressed elites as much as the next guy (classy shoes, good views and what have you). Yet there is something about sitting in a local bar listing to good music (seriously good tunes at this place) with a small group that is so much more enjoyable to me (small and quiet, am I getting old or what?).
Old man talk aside (damn kids, and your rap music), Tuesdays event at The Lock Yard was a blast (honestly though how could it not have been?). Great venue + an awesome group of elites + Blue point sponsoring (Pumpkin and Harvest beer) = Amazing night, simple math. I am relatively new to the Bay Ridge area, but my friends who live down there keep telling me how much fun the bars are and that they are so different from the rest of the city; me being an awful friend I have not spent much time in the lower part of our fair borough. HUGE mistake. Bay Ridge looks like it would be a blast to spend more time in — The Lock Yard absolutely let me know what this part of town was all about. We walked into a venue that was playing the Bouncing Souls, and a bartender seemed happy as could be to see us — this is NOT what I am accustomed to in the city. Not saying that city bartenders aren’t nice, or that they aren’t happy to see us; but the vibe this place was giving off was much more local bar, than big city bar — such a nice change of pace in this busy (and sometimes cold) city.
The space itself was very nicely laid out; a small, rustic seating area and bar (cool tap handles) gave way to an even smaller open kitchen that was serving up some serious eats. Past the tiny alcove where the bathrooms were (also rustic, and very clean), was the enormous back yard where we spent the vast majority of our evening. This yard was seriously cool; sporting a half trellis holding back some old looking tree branches, we quickly found a comfortable picnic bench to claim as our own under the cool rope lighting. Here we were chatted the night away drinking good beer and eating particularly good food (Lock yard would be worth visiting for the hot dogs alone), and listing to (can’t stress this enough) AWESOME music. What fantastic change of pace from other city bars, I honestly can’t wait to bring some people down to Lock Yard and have another night like this.

I’ve only been to Lock Yard once before, but I have fallen in love with the back yard. This was a great event. I was so excited to have something in Bay Ridge. And I had a seat! And friendly staff offered me pumpkin beer refills! Fried pickles!
I’d highly recommend everyone go back to try the full menu, though. There’s a ton of vegetarian options that weren’t available at our event.

A little far… a little out of the way, but close to the train and well worth it. The event was super chill and laid back. The staff was super nice, accommodating and way helpful. It was a beautiful night to spend in the backyard (like gorgeous night out!).
Made some new friends, reconnected with some old ones that I hadn’t seen in a while. It was great! Lockyard provided Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale (both of which were delicious). They also handed out some delicious bites, including, but not limited to:
everything fried pickle — (spears) delicious and not soggy
wings — so good
empanadas — quite possibly my fav thing
johnny cash hot dog — (with chili and diced onions and cheese) good
saurkraut dog — delicious sauerkraut
3 mustard relilsh dog — (not a fan of relish) but this was delicious as well
**all their dogs had a delicious squishy bun that wrapped lovingly around your hot dog and didn’t break

This was such a great event. Before I discuss the experience, I want to thank the staff for making it such an awesome evening!
I love the patio area, especially the large picnic tables. It’s perfect for talking to your friends as well as meeting new people.
The food was delicious. I was given a fried pickle soon after arriving. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much; I’ve had fried pickles a couple of times before and have never been impressed. This one changed that conception. The breading was so good– thick, flavored, and crunchy. The pickle was still crisp. Yum, yum.
Those empanadas from Ho’Brah were on point! The meat was so well seasoned that the sauce was superfluous, but I loved that too. I would have been satisfied if that was the only ting served.
The chili cheese hotdog was also great. I was upset that I was already full by that point, because I would have loved to devour the whole thing. I’m disappointed that I missed out on the other flavors, but they looked fantastic. My tablemates seemed to enjoy them.
The beer selections were also great. The pumpkin ale was the perfect thing to put me in the mood for autumn. Now if only the leaves would start changing colors…

Hot dog! We all trekked out to the last stop on the R train in Brooklyn last night! I used to live in this neighborhood. Until I found out what the R shuttle bus was and we didn’t become best friends. I love this bar though. Long story. In the middle of the winter this year my friends and I came up with a genius idea to skip work on one of the coldest days of the year and go on a borough crawl. Each person (only 3 of us) was to pick a place they had never been to before in each of the five illustrious boroughs of New York and we would try one item from each place. This would have worked out perfectly and been genius if it both wasn’t so damn cold and we had cars. Because shock of the century, navigating Staten Island isn’t that easy and incredibly time consuming. But this was my Brooklyn pick for that borough crawl. Somehow the same bartender was there and remembered this entire long-​winded story at the elite event. That’s pretty awesome.
Blue point Pumpkin and Oktoberfest were both offered on tap, pretty copiously. I preferred the pumpkin over the other. Staff was amazing. I jumped around the bar awkwardly waiting for Steph P. to arrive and finally settled at just sitting at the bar with her. Most of the food made a direct exit for outside but the staff and managers were on top of things and made sure to send some our way as well. The fried pickle with an everything seed bagel crust was the most unique frickle I’ve had to date. I like that it’s an entire pickle spear as opposed to pickle chips. The pork empanada from Ho Brah was amazing. Simplistic tasty empanadas are the way to go. The cilantro dipping sauce was both Steph P.‘s and my personal favorite part of the entire night. I may have also put cilantro sauce on everything else that was served. Johnny Cash (how can you not LOVE Johnny Cash?! LOVE) hot dog with chilli, diced onion, and shredded cheddar cheese (they also made some without onions), and their classic dog with sauerkraut and relish. Also, both jack daniels and hot wings from Kettle Black across the street. Oh, Kettle Black. I have fond memories of hunting you down because you were the only bar in the area that sold Abita Strawberry in the summer. They also have pretty decent burgers.
The amount of craft beer on the menu for Lockyard though is outstanding. Also, I didn’t realize they had tasting flights. When I’m in the area again, this would definitely be my go to bar. Thanks Peter D. for the awesome event!

What’s the best way to ring in October on a nice, cool fall evening?
Well, with unlimited Oktoberfest/​Pumpkin Ale from the remarkable Blue Point Brewery via Peter D. of of course!
The Lock Yard: Impressive craft beer list, quaint, spacious backyard, super amazing staff and yummy, greasy bar food. The perfect elements for a good night out.
Menu for the evening: Jack Daniels wings, hot dogs, pork empanadas, and FRIED PICKLES!!! Fried dill spears encrusted with with bagel seeds. Very delicious and extra hot, I nearly burned my mouth off BUT it was well worth the pain. There was a tall, refreshing glass of Oktoberfest to soothe my injury. Unfortunately, I could not consume meat but the wings looked very scrumptious. Plus, there were many Unilocalers to live vicariously through.
Some patrons who frequent the Lock Yard remained in the bar and they gave me the DL, which was actually a first for me. It’s always clutch to have some locals from around the area who can provide invaluable insight about one of their local watering holes. Apparently, their pretzels are «to die for» the tofu sausages are «pretty DAMN good. My wandering eyes spotted some waffle fries. Fried goodness, you are the devil in disguise.
Many, many thanks to Jason and his staff for being so hospitable. They were all super attentive, amiable and were even bringing drinks to the tables. Up-​close and personal service, I highly approve. The Lock Yard will surely see my face again.
Of course, I would haven’t been dragged out to this amazing bar if it weren’t for Peter D. I don’t know where I would be without him to guide me in Brooklyn.

While I generally go to bars convenient to my job or my apartment, there are a couple of places I will absolutely go out of my way for. After last night, Lock Yard is on that list, and I can’t wait to go back.
Unlike other events when I get confused and assume that Unilocal must be a review site for vultures, the food was plentiful, and because of that, we collectively became less hawkish. I was given an amazing fried pickle almost immediately after I checked in with Peter D., and the bartender was filling pints with such precision that he got around to our order just moments later. After that I didn’t even go back up to the bar because the staff at Lock Yard is just that. nice. and they kept asking those sitting at tables if we wanted refills.
In addition to the constant flow of drinks and food, I wanted to give a special thanks to the staff who accommodated my vegetarian-​ness. I had mentioned to one of them that the hot dogs looked delicious but that I would not be partaking, and they offered to make a tofudog version of their three-​mustard dog, piled high with sauerkraut. I don’t complain about limited vegetarian options at events in which the food is free because that’s rude, but I have to commend Lock Yard for going above and beyond in this respect. They’ve gained a repeat customer, and I’ll be sure to bring a large group of friends to enjoy the amazing back yard the next time I go.

One of the things I like about Unilocal is that it puts new places on the map. Sometimes it even puts entire neighborhoods on the map. In this case my map. Because let’s face it: Bay Ridge is far.
Far, but worth the trip on the R all the way to the end of the line.
Occupying the space of a former 24h locksmith[1], this very welcoming place is characterized by a wonderful backyard. Considering that it has a whopping fourteen beers on tap and also serves a huge variety of hot dogs and sausages, this is the kind of place you want to have in your neighborhood. I can see myself taking residency here during the warm months. Who doesn’t love outdoor drinking and great bar food?
Of the beers available for the event I particularly enjoyed the Blue Point Oktoberfest. Food was also fantastic: the fried pickles and the wings were delicious (particularly with that Jack Daniels sauce), just like the Johnny Cash hotdog (chili, cheddar cheese, and diced onions), but the pork empanadas from Ho’ Brah were the star of the night for me.
An extra star for the staff, who were phenomenally nice. So nice that they would even bring drinks and food directly to our table on demand.
Can we have more of this soon, please?

Great times as always at theYelp Elite event!
Brooklyn and Peter D never disappoint. This event was around where I live so of course I had to come! I have been to lock yard on other occasions so this wasn’t my first time at this location. I actually have a review on this place already so I will focus this more towards the Elite event.
Lock Yard is a beer garden with both indoor and outdoor seating and a ton of beers on tap. The sponsors for the food were two places I frequent as well Ho’brah and Kettle Black both great places check out my reviews on those places as well. The food was great! The beers they offered were the Pumpkin Ale and the Oktoberfest. Perfect for this Fall season! I preferably love the Oktoberfest. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The weather was perfect for the large outdoor seating they have. It was perfect. So happy that Unilocal came to Bay Ridge!

«Why haven’t we come here before?»
That was my first question I had asked my ever faithful +1 upon entering the Lock Yard. Originally a locksmith store, the Lock Yard has paid some homage to their predecessors not only in name, but looking at the walls inside the bathroom, you see some locksmith tricks of the trade; very entertaining read.
The real gem is the outdoor garden — very whimsical space with dimly lit paper lanterns and fabric banners that still sing the praises of summer. There is plenty of seating for two, or for you and your gang. There’s a TV too, if you just can’t miss the game. Sit all the way in the back, and you can enjoy the wooden benches. Each table with a cloth umbrella to protect you from the sun or the rain — whatever happens first.
The main event of the night, for me, was the Johnny Cash hot dog — goodness on a weiner! I haven’t had a hot dog snap when I bit it in a long time, and it tasted like summer and smelt like heaven; perfection. My finger-​licking fun was the hot wings — and with 60 cent wings on Wednesdays, I think this will soon be a hangout. The fried pickle was very unique and different for me; worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous. And good GOD — thank you Ho’Brah for those AMAZING shredded pork empanada; I ate three — two I took, and the other I stole from my +1 shhhh!
The chalk boards over the bar and the open kitchen were not only entertaining with fun quotes and interesting facts about beer, but re-​enforced the very laid back, casual space.

Talk about a fun night. To be honest to my fellow Unilocalers I had some previous experiences at The Lock Yard and have enjoyed not only their fare but the space itself so when the chance to enjoy an Elite Event came up with their name on it I was all for it.
The Lock Yard itself is housed in a former locksmith shop that had been in Bay Ridge for decades in case you are curious and now its one of the new highlight spots to come and eat or enjoy the game in the neighborhood. As Peter D. greeted us all, we headed into the beer garden area of the space and this is a massive backyard all set up with tables, umbrellas and a glass awning that can close on colder nights and remain open during the summer months. The front signage of the original locksmith shop is now on the wall of the beer garden space and it adds some character for sure. This garden area was quickly filled up by Unilocalers and since I recognized many from another event I attended I also made sure to greet them and welcome them all to my neck of the woods. I love this part of Brooklyn so much I guess I have a sense of pride going on. Now to the food and drink.
The Lock Yard is connected to both The Kettle Black and Ho’Brah down on third avenue and with this being the case, all three spots offered up the tasty treats that we would have tonight. There were exceptional empanadas, chicken wings in two flavors (Jack Daniels and Buffalo City), fried pickles (which were coated in the everything bagel batter) and hot dogs that came with chili, cheese and onions along with conventional sauerkraut and spicy mustard. I only had the first type of dog but had to remove most of the onions since they kill my stomach these days. Ahhh age, its a wonderful thing. All of this stuff was delicious. I must visit Ho’Brah soon, but have been to the Kettle Black already. Stay tuned Unilocal account :) — now to continue.
The beverages this evening were complimentary Bluepoint Octoberfest and Pumpkin ales and those who wanted anything different were able to start up their own tab. This was the case for a few Unilocalers that wanted to sample some of the other cool offerings to be found at the bar. The servers were awesome and friendly and are to be commended for their diligence. They were constantly keeping the clutter off of the tables, bringing out new drinks and all the eats with smiles on their faces. They surely helped the night come off without a hitch and I thank them for being so friendly. The owner of the beer garden, Tom Casatelli, was also present for the event and spoke to several Unilocalers to see if they were enjoying themselves. A good move for any establishment in my opinion.
My guest also enjoyed himself greatly and together we had some nice chats with the people that we sat with most of the night. I am still new to the Elite game and am trying to meet more folks with each and every turn at an event. Kudos to Peter D. for a rock solid (or should I say «lock solid») event. Lockyard is such a fantastic, fantastic bar. My only gripe with them is that they’re in Bayridge and not Astoria (lol). Last night’s event featured complimentary Oktoberfest and Pumpkin brews along with delicious (and generously stuffed) pork empanadas served with a delicious savory cilantro sauce, hot dogs with several toppings (I requested just cheese because I’m a minimalist hot dog consumer), juicy meaty wings — some with buffalo sauce and others with a buffalo /​Jack Daniels sauce blend… THOSE WERE MAH FAVORITE.
I missed out on the deep fried pickles as I arrived about 25 minutes into the event, but I’m cool with that — I don’t do pickles. EVER.
The owners, bartenders, kitchen staff, waitresses are some of the coolest, most friendly, efficient people I’ve ever encountered in a bar. How I wish my commute here were over an hour long from my humble abode in the far-​far-​away land of Queens.
I love Lockyard, I already did — but they put on a really fantastic event and while it wasn’t my first time enjoying a cold beer here, it was my first time trying out their food and the foods of their other 2 sister establishments.
