$ 6.95 a pound for beautiful fresh lake trout fillet’s. Immaculate quality. Great smoked lake trout as well. (Whitefish also available.) They did not cut the portions — you buy a full fillet — but at these prices, its worth it. Hours are 9 – 5, so plan accordingly.

We stopped by minutes before the 5:00 PM closing bell to secure our fresh trout before hitting the ferry to Madeline. Good thing too – the fish was impeccable, perfectly filleted and very tasty cooked au Meuniere with lemon caper butter. Smoked fish looked great too. They even had fresh blueberries. Worth a stop.

If you’re in Bayfield and have access to a kitchen, do it simple and do it right: season your Lake Superior white fish with melted butter, freshly squeezed lemon juice and black peppercorns. Grill over charcoal.
If you don’t have access to a kitchen, buy a cooler and bring some home. We may not have fresh «sea“food in the landlocked states of the Midwest but that’s no excuse to miss out on the fresh fish in the lakes we do have. Mmmm.
