LONGBUTWORTHTHEWARNING! I would like to note that before posting on Unilocal I did try to rectify my issue with Diane but was told that the stylist would not budge, that they earn on commission. Having been in and around the hair industry for most of my life I find Élan Hair Company/Beauty Bizz appalling. My first visit to Élan was due to a recommendation from a friend to see Jenna for hilites. Despite being there for over 3 hrs I was so happy with the outcome of them that when it was time for them to be redone I called Élan for an appointment with her. My appointment was booked about 2 months in advance since that was Jenna’s first availability that fit my schedule. A bit far off but at the time I felt her service was well worth the wait. I did not realize at the time that the appointment was the day before Easter. My appointment time was rescheduled twice on Jenna’s part; first to have me come in at an earlier time, then to inform me that Jenna was running late to have me come in later. I was more than compliant with the changes. Upon sitting down in Jenna’s chair she had asked me what I wanted. I had told her I needed my hilites touched up given how much root I had. She then told me that she would not do hilites on me and that any professional person would not do hilites on me because of how damaged my hair was. As a hilited blonde of course there is hair damage but my hair is not nearly as bad as Jenna was making it seem. My hair is absolutely manageable when handled correctly. Jenna suggested doing balayage instead. She made it seem as if I would still have hilites but subtle and blended from the root. I even mentioned to her that I was never a happy brunette. Looking back I now question if this was Jenna’s attempt to save time in order to get back on schedule. Especially after hearing another employee ask Jenna if she’d be late for her next appointment; I got the impression that the next client would have made a problem if she was. After my color was finished I was in shock with how dark it was, but it was wet, so I was hoping it wouldn’t be bad once it was dried. At this time Jenna proceeded to ask me how much she should take off. I told her that I did not want a haircut(truthfully, the last time she cut too much off), instead of taking no for an answer she started hounding me even telling me that I was making a BIG mistake. Little did I know I had already made a huge mistake letting Jenna talk me into something I didn’t ask for. Once my hair was dried shock hit me again. I looked like someone applied shoe polish on top of my hair. My once rich hilites were now gone and instead I had this dull vodka sauce color under sludge. Jenna kept asking«Do you love it?!» I couldn’t believe that I walked into the salon with more hilites than I’d be leaving with. I now looked like I was hospitalized for 9 months and couldn’t get anyone to color my hair. After hearing«Do you love it?!» again I was snapped out of shock and said to Jenna I want hilites. She told me that she would not do it, not even next time! At this point I just wanted out of there and to get home and fix this mess. I paid $ 143 plus tip. I tipped her not for good service but because I do understand that a service was performed. So here I am, the day before Easter, already late afternoon looking for a salon to fix this sludge color disaster. Luckily I did. The woman took one look at my hair and actually felt bad for me. She spent the evening before Easter helping a new client. She fixed as much as she could and made my hair presentable; and guess what, she had no problem giving me hilites! Penny Lane is an absolute life saver and I cannot thank her enough. I did call Élan after Easter and spoke with Diane, the owner, about my hair and how unhappy I was. Plus I wanted to know exactly what I was charged for since I find $ 143 extremely overpriced for basically a touch up. In all honestly I was not looking for a full refund as again I understand a service was had however I did feel that I should have been compensated fairly since I needed to have corrective color done elsewhere on a holiday weekend because Jenna refused. Diane told me she would speak with Jenna the next day when she came in after 2PM and come to an agreement and call me back. Almost 2 weeks passed and I did not hear anything from Élan salon. I then called and left a message for Diane. She called me back while I was at work and long story short told me that this is basically what it is while she was chewing in my ear. When I asked if she could do anything to rectify this situation she told me that Jenna will not budge(um who runs the salon again?)& since Jenna had done my hair once before and I was happy that it obviously made her a professional and that Jenna used her professional opinion to not do hilites on damaged hair. Honestly?I think it was pure laziness and her laziness cost me over $ 450 without Élan Salon, Jenna, or Diane taking any responsibility. BEWARE!

The stylist, Laura, is an absolute professional. She specializes in Keratin treatments, hair extensions and color/highlights. She has been doing my hair for 5 years and I could not imagine anyone else touching my hair. She uses organic keratin, which is gentle on the hair while providing beautiful, straight hair. The hair extensions are human hair and are incredible and you can’t even tell that I have extensions. It looks so natural. She also only uses the best color that is gentle and hydrates the hair rather than damaging it. She uses Olaplex to protect the hair for the highlights and color services. If you take her a picture of someone’s hair she is able to replicate it. I recommend her 100%! This salon is very clean and spacious and the people at the front desk are very nice. They do a great wash with relaxing head massages. They also have a wide variety of high quality products for sale at reasonable prices.

I have been going to this salon for 2 yrs now. I love my stylist but when the other salon in broadway closed, all their staff moved to Beauty Bizz. Everytime I call for appt the receptionist would tell me that my stylist is not available even if I call at 8:30am. She’s trying to pass and book me to their new stylists so they can have new customers. Since i really need my highlights that day I said ok but the one who did my highlights was barely new. She would ask the Sr. Stylist if she’s doing it correctly. Not happy with the outcome and would never come back again! I hope my stylist here would leave this salon so I can follow her.

Just went here today for the first time since my stylist just moved to this salon. My first impression was«call Tabitha Takes Over»! When you walk through the door you have to walk through yards of shelves with hair products for sale. You cannot even see the front desk or know that it’s a salon until you get to the back. That being said, once you do get to the salon in the back it is lovely with exposed brick walls, custom wood cabinetry with granite countertops, pretty lighting, etc. everyone working there is friendly, helpful & the stylists & assistants are professional & experienced. Things are clean & well maintained(except for the rather worn leather chairs in the little waiting area). Overall had my hair colored, highlighted, trimmed & blown out all for $ 148 — great price! Would definitely recommend this place but the owner needs to get rid of the dozens of shelves of products that make this place seem like a cheap beauty supply shop & open up the front of the space so that the salon can really be appreciated!
