Fontana Famous Pizza & Gyro

Very good food, healthy amounts. Friendly staff and quick delivery!

I’ve moved away from New York a few years ago and have not found any gyros which come close to Fontana’s. D@mn, I miss this place. Gyro meat was perfectly seasoned and moist. Generous portions and flavors which you will taste for hours.

Always a pleasant experience at this establishment. Once in a while the wait to be seated can be rather long but the food itself is worth the wait. The staff is very attentive and prices are fair. The food is hot and fresh. Parking can be a challenge during evening hours and meter cops are generally crawling through that area looking for violations to write. Regardless this is a good place for the neighborhood and a go to for me.

BEST GYROS ON EARTH
Busy busy busy so the food is fresh fresh fresh. People come from all over for the gyros because they are the best gyros on Earth, no exaggeration. The rest of the menu is good too, Family run, good people.

This is far the best greek restaurant in my heart the food is great the staff is great and the price is right i def recommend this restaurant and make sure you say hi to dino who will always greet you with a warm hello

I ordered through Grubhub. The delivery time was pretty speedy. They arrived at least 15 minutes before the expected time. I ordered the souvlaki platter and the menu didn’t specify what kind of meat it was. I guess it was my bad for not checking but I just assumed it was going to be chicken. It ended up being pork which wouldn’t have been a problem because I dont have any dietary restrictions but this pork was the toughest pork I’d ever attempted to eat and I say attempted because it was not easy and I ended up giving up on it a few pieces in. It was well seasoned however. The greek salad was good however a bit heavy on the onion. The Tzaztiki was good but a bit overpowered by garlic. The lemon potatoes were good but greasy. The entire bottom of the container was drenched in olive oil which was totally unnecessary.
I tried my sons chicken and gyro combo and his tasted great. The chicken was very tender. I think if I would have went specifically with the chicken I would have had a better meal. They definitely do give decent sized portions for the price so I am willing to give them another shot but I am going to stay away from the pork next time. I’ll give them four stars due to my partial fault in not clarifying what type of meat comes with the souvlaki platter.
The place has been around for a long time and I have eaten there before but it was so many years ago I can’t really tell you if they’ve improved or not.

Solid Gyro. Good service and they aren’t chinzy with the meat either.

After ordering from here a few more times, I decided to bump up the rating to a four.
I’ve tried several of their dishes now, and my favorite is the falafel platter with lemon potatoes and salad. The gyro platter is a close second. The salad could still use some improvement, and I haven’t been brave enough to order the grape leaves again, but the lemon potatoes, gyro meat and falafel are all phenomenal.

Had a chicken gyro and it was gigantic. Chicken was not dry at all either… Service was quick. Ordered a Greek salad which was pretty good, could of used a tad more feta. veggies were super fresh which was great.

Fontana’s is one of my Favorite Restaurants Ever!
ALL the food is Incredible!
It is owned by a Greek Family and the majority of their menu is Greek food.
But their Pizza is one of The Best in New York!
The Place is clean and the employees have all worked there for years. I never see a turnover.
It’s crowded often but if you have to wait it’s a short time.
Definitely one of my favorite places to eat.
The Best waiter was Angelo he was there for Years & Years.
But everyone is great.

Decent customer service. As long as you are nice, they are generally nice back to you!
Delicious food! I’ve been coming here for two decades now and this place never disappoints when it comes to food. Gyros, burgers, pizzas, etc.

I was here once before and had a Gyro, it was pretty decent, so when I saw somebody posted a pic of a slice of pizza with Gyro meat on it I had to try it. The actual pizza was a little better than I thought but still not great, The Gyro meat is very good, only issue was they sliced some of it so thin that by the time of baked in the oven on top of the pizza it got very very dried out. And this seems to me like the kind a meal I want after drinking a sixpack. Overall it was pretty good, I don’t think I would order it again though.

Waiting for Table: A–
When we first walked in, the host (Latino) was very nice as he told us how long we should be waiting for another table (it was packed). The business owners were there (I think) and they were also assisting us with the table accomadation saying that if we wanted to, we could get the next avaliable seats (2 seater) or one that was more comfy (4 seater) but we’d have to wait a little longer. We didnt mind do we chose the 2 seater.
Server: B
The server was nice. She told us the differences between certain dishes like the calamari and the calamar platter and the different kinds of meats avaliable. However, at times, she was also not telling us the whole truth about the dishes which we should have been informed about.
For example, we got the TRIPLE MEAT PLATTER for $ 18. The various meats include, lamb souvalki, chicken souvalki, sausage, and gyro. However, the triple meat platter for $ 18 does NOT include the the chicken souvalki for the set price. The chicken is $ 1.50 more for total of $ 19.50. We ordered it not knowingly because the server didnt tell us that it would be EXTRA. I dont mind paying the extra price, but it the principle that counts. We also got a seltzer water, and it came in a GIGANTIC CUP. When we looked at the receipt, she charged us for a LARGE. It was only $ 2, but she should have asked us what size we wanted. Princples matter!
Food: A–
We ordered the fried calamari and triple meat platter. For two people, the three meat platter is a good amount. i dont think the combination platter would have been enough for us. I liked the calamari. It was good amount for $ 11. It didnt taste fishy like some ive tasted at other places. It seems like they use a fine breadcrumb coating. The pieces were great. The one thing I didnt like was the pizza sauce they used. They definitly put in sugar because I could taste it.
I would suggest using marinara sauce. It gives the calamari a chunkier taste and less tart flavor. I would try the grilled calamari next time as well.
The meat platter was good. Fries were fresh and crispy. Liked the addition of salad/​soup. I think it was odd that they only gave us ONE PITA and SAUCE for a TRIPLE MEAT PLATTER. why not 3? and why not 2 for the combination platters? I felt like they were skimpy on the pita, but the meal overall was still very good.
Overall, i do like this place and would come again since its opened til 12 and has great food.
Just hope your server is more informative and doesnt withhold information like ours were!

Just ordered from them using Seamless like we have done in the past. We’ve continued to order from here because it’s the best Greek place that delivers… but that’s not saying much. Here are my list of complaints… they are inconsistent, sometimes they over cook the meat so it’s super dry and tough, ²⁄₃ times we got the grilled veggies they were charred black and inedible, don’t get the falafel… seamless says it comes with tzaziki sauce but instead they give you «tahini» sauce that basically tastes like spoiled milk and my number one complaint is TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Every time I’ve called to speak to their manager I get a BS response like «oh I’m so sorry, he just stepped out» and then when I tell them what’s wrong with the order they try to convince me that I’m mistaken some how and that this is the way it was supposed to be.
I have to go… the tahini sauce is making me sick.

Still the best Gyro in Flushing…
The place is sticky and needs a makeover but who cares because the Gyros, souvlaki and spinach pies are always deelish, hot and fresh
A lot of people seem to buy the pizza also but I’ve never tried it even though it looks and smells good.
I’m too addicted to the Greek food

Located right on the corner of the blvd this is my go to place for a gyro and souvlaki platter. The platter here is fantastic and never does disappoint. Portions are a little bit on the more side and will leave you with some extras which is great.
Food is very flavorful and the meat is juicy and not dry like other places.
The interior is nothing special, looks and feels like a regular diner deco, and the staff can be a hit or miss. Although with the mild complaints this place is still recommended and i’ll still be returning!

Pretty decent place for your gyro or souvlaki fix, recommended by my fellow Unilocaler Rob. The service were pretty fast as for the food, but my only complaint would be that I would hope that the service was more attentive. They didn’t even ask us if we wanted anything to drink. I mean, hello. Also, the table was pretty small for me; I had to even hold on to my soup to drink because there was literally no space on the table. Nonetheless, the food was pretty good. Very filling and satisfied the hunger. Would recommend!

This place is a like a classic diner that seems to have been here forever.
This review is only for the Gyro. It was definitely a big portion, but in terms of taste and the actual meat, I didn’t find it anything special, maybe even a little bland. Expect to pay around $ 9 for a gyro with tax and tip. Positives was that service was attentive and friendly, and definitely has a home-​y diner feel to it. The place can be a little tight for large parties.

A place recommended by my son who loves cheap eats. But hey, cheap in a sense of price but of good quality food in his defense. He is a high school student, what can you expect. He is just being practical.
We ordered variety of their famous hot plate. I had souvlaki platter, my husband had souvlaki and gyro platter. My son ordered gyro platter and my daughter had grilled chicken platter. Their single serving is huge as it comes with salad or vegetables, pita bread and sauce and choice of fries, rice or potatoes. It was delicious, the meat was so tender, seasoned just right. The pita bread was warmed when served and the vegetables were crunchy. Even though though I have small stomach, with what they served, I was able to finish it all. I grew a big appetite for that day .
The waitress was pleasant. She gave good recommendation for our desert. Who says there is no room for sweets? Their spumoni was one of the best.
This is an affordable fast food place, with high regards to the quality and serving. Location is in the corner streets. Lots of parking even in a busy street.

I used to love going here when I lived in Bayside but I then moved to Fresh Meadows so I did not have it for I would say a year. I recent had it again, because I noticed they delivered to me! Yay!
I ordered my usually quesdilla because I loved their chicken because they are usually very juicy. not dry at all. but not the day I got it. It was so dry that I could literally break a window if I threw it at one. The peppers were dry. everything was.
I was so upset. The soup was the only thing that was all right… and still remained in tack.
I feel like they changed owners…
In the meantime, I guess I will not be ordering from them anymore.
