Very courteous staff, great home made food first time that I’ve been so they gave us a sample of everything. I went with the curry goat. A must try!

I’m glad I gave this place another try because dang, that jerk chicken was delicious. Last time, I had jerk chicken was from Reggae Hut and boy was it disgusting! As I bit into the chicken here I kept on comparing the taste and this place came out on top. The jerk spices weren’t overbearing spicy and the chicken wasn’t dry. It tasted just the way it should and this isn’t coming from someone who was born in the islands. The plantains were sweet, tasted like it was cooked in fresh grease. It didn’t taste like how my mum cooks it at home, but better. By the way, my mum isn’t Caribbean. The cabbage was tasty. Now, I’m used liking and tasting my mums, but I could decipher how this cabbage wasn’t the American breed. It had a lighter taste to it. The red beans and rice(no sausages) was bland, but I had to substitute the chicken juices for the no seasoning rice. I just poured some of the juices on the rice and viola! It was melting in my mouth. The jerk chicken plate is $ 13; so mind this place isn’t cheap. When we(my mum and sister) arrived late around the evening yesterday, practically nobody was here. I noticed most of their customers are take-outing. Oh yeah, my mum loved her ox tails with plantain, beans and rice and cabbage. She also noted that it was way better than Reggae Hut. She said that the people at the Hut didn’t know what they were doing and that these people at Jamaican me Hungry knows how to cook. Now the staff here is friendly and attentive. Also, they are from the native land of Jamaica. Several times the cashier lady asked us how we were doing and even asked how we found out about this restaurant, I replied, «through Unilocal». My mum said through my daughter(ME). The owner of this restaurant is on site and was cooking our meals. He asked us how we were and when we finished our meal how was it. Also, our meals didn’t take ten million years to come out. it came out in less than 20 mins. It was hot when it arrived to our table. The restaurant is clean and definitely doesn’t smell bad. It doesn’t look run down like the Reggae Hut. Lots of Jamaican décor: pictures of Bob Marley, the Jamaican flag and Jamaican beverages. The restaurant had me reminiscing about the time I visited Jamaica when I was a kid. It was such a lovely time. The parking situation has plenty of spots, so there’s no limitation here. Two flat screen TV’s in the restaurant playing good movies. Thanks to Unilocal for another great pleasing find!

I have passed by this place several times, and contemplated getting food from there. I finally decided to try it for my self despite what I had already heard. I ordered the brown stew chicken plate, and went to pick it up. Walking into the restaurant it looked pretty decently organized, and was clean. The people in there were not too friendly. And this Jamaican man in there just always looks so aloof. Anyhow I got my food and took it with me. Sadly to say I did not enjoy it. I know what stew chicken taste like, and this tasted nothing like it. The food tasted more like an ital dish(Rastafarian food). To me everything just had the same flavor. I also did not like the fact that the chicken were cut up into little pieces. All in all, I probably would not go back there, or recommend it to anyone looking for some good island food. They either need a new recipe, or a new chief. Their stuff is too expensive to be a disappointment.

We had been wanting to try this place out & we finally did. The food was good & hot! Everyone was friendly. We went a little late in the day so a lot of things were sold out. Overall I think it’s worth trying if you haven’t already!!!

Jerk chicken, Jerk chicken salad & the oxtails… Yummy Yummy Yummy… The service was great & the music they play will have you grooving in your seat, chewing & maybe licking your fingers at the same time.

Great food. Authentic Jamaican meals. Nothing else like it in the area. Highly recommend the jerk pork and jerk chicken. Both excellent

Jamaican me Hungry has a lot of potential. The food is REALLY good. made fresh, good spices and flavor! But, from what I can tell, they are still pretty new and working out some of their logistics. The group I was with and I arrived just as they had opened, as did many other customers. They didn’t seem quite ready to handle that many people right off the bat. After bringing us samples, our group ordered. Many of the items on the menu were not available(mainly because they weren’t made yet) and many of us had to change our order because they ran out of what they had made. Its a sign that their food is good and in demand, but its not so good for an empty stomach or someone with a tight lunch schedule. The waitress recommended that we order before we go in to avoid what we went through in the future. I definitely plan on going back and trying more of they have to offer.

My experience here was full of ups and downs but the bottom line is the food was phenomenal and I would come back. First and foremost, DONOTGET A COUPONFORTHISPLACEBECAUSETHEYDON’T ACCEPTIT. I had already bought mine when I came through the door, and was disappointed to find that they wouldn’t take it despite the fact that I had already spent money on it. Apparently they’ve been trying to get in touch with restaurant.com’s customer service for ages to cancel it but hadn’t been very responsive. I’d believe it — I’ve seen a few coupons on that site for places that don’t exist anymore. Anyway, it got much better after that point! Because the owner felt bad for our group, he gave all of us(6 people) free mint lemonade and desserts which probably made up for the value of the coupon anyway. He didn’t have to do that so that was very nice of him. When I wasn’t sure of what to buy he actually let me sample 2 things and then pick one! Great customer service except for the snafu at the beginning. And my god the food was delicious! The jerk chicken was moist and flavorful and the oxtail meal was so tender it was to die for. I had such a hard time choosing between the two but I ended up going with the oxtail since I don’t eat that very often. Definitely worth it! The cabbage was also really good(and cabbage is so hard to shine in my eyes!) as were the rice and beans. A couple of my friends got the roti which looked delicious and I am definitely getting that on my next visit. The mint lemonade was really good and the desserts were aight but hey I’m not going to complain since they were free! The star of this place is really the meat. The only minor downside was the price — at ~$ 15/person it is not a cheap lunch. But for the value you get — unique food and a lot of it — it’s probably worth it. I would definitely come back and if the quality of the food and customer service stays the same I would bump my rating to 5 stars.

Delicious! Oxtail, seasoned cabbage, roti. Yum yum yum! Even my hard-to-please Trinidadian grandmother was impressed. Finally a good restaurant in Baytown.

I love this place!!! I lived in Florida for 14 years and have had my share of authentic Jamaican food. This place is one of the best and for it to be in a town full of horrible restaurants I am sure it is going to do great. If you like spice you need to try this place. I am a chef and it is really hard for me to find food that I am happy with. I have given up on the chain restaurants in baytown. I am glad to have a place in baytown with fresh ingredients and soul in there food. I was getting burnt out on taquerias.
