Joined SUP yoga class last Sunday morning — love love the class and the teachers(I had Emily and Jane recently and they were both great)! Last summer, in addition to taking a yoga class, also went on a SUP tour along with my husband and daughters(then ages 5 and 8). The tour leaders were great(my younger went on my board while my older daughter paddled herself for the first time). We all can’t wait to go again this summer(and I will go to SUP yoga with south-end any time I can)!

These guys couldn’t have been nicer to my two daughters(21, 17) going out on SUPs for the first time. They were easy to schedule, quick to check in, and then just a few blocks to the bay where they got some good first timer’s instruction. All in all, try these guys for your first or next stand up paddle board experience. THEN, we went back the following night for their weekly ukelele night. Just show up. No experience needed. They’ll show you how to do some simple chords and off you go. Just a good vibe type of place.

Excellent value for the money but the price the customer pays is that this place is very unorganized. «As expected» is a good way to gauge a customers interaction with a business. In other words, were things as you(or a reasonable person) would imagine things should go. I signed up 3 teenagers for the 3-day surf lesson package. 1 day skills in the bay. 1 day paddle board to learn balance. 1 day surfing in the ocean. 2 hours each day. With SouthEnd, the elements that surrounded the lesson were not as expected. I will say that my 3 teenagers had a great time and seemed to learn a lot. 2 of 3 actually surfed and the other did well but got a bit tired in the rough conditions. All had fun. But, as the dad dropping off kids for a 2 hour lesson, 3 days in a row, it was very annoying. The first day the lesson was at the marina at 9:30. We were there at 9:25, and the lesson did not start until 10– when most others showed up. They also did not have the paperwork until 10, so as the drop off dad I had to stand there and wait. The next day we showed up at 9, as instructed, but the lesson this day was at another location – near their store front. That was not communicated. Fortunately, I waited and did not just drop off. Next, we were told Marine St beach entrance at 9. But when we got there the instructor, who was surfing on his own, said the lessons today were at 11. We were staying ½ hour away, so this was a big issue. This really makes me question things like safety. How close to industry standards for safety can they be when they can’t get the very basics correct? They also said my wife got the time wrong – which was really not a bright thing. You don’t blame the customer. You fix the problem. When I complained they should have given us a discount, apologized, and sent a teacher out right then to teach them. Instead they accused my wife(who has an MA in journalism and asks more questions in every interaction than Dan Rather) of not writing it down. Call me crazy, but I am going to believe my ultra detail oriented type A wife over a surfer who could not remember to bring legal wavers the first day.(Maybe that’s just me) That said, the boys liked the lessons. Just know what your getting into up front and triple check everything.

Had an awesome time stand up paddleboarding with South End. We ended up having 3 people in our group, which was great since we weren’t rushed or crowded. The staff there is great, they’re great at what they do and happy to share their knowledge with new people. I’m a convert, need to find a place in Northern NJ to paddle!

This place has it all — literally something for everyone. Took a Paddleboard tour here almost 5 years ago and I have not looked back since. The tour was perfect– It began with an on land demonstration from a team of professional water men and women so I could learn all that I needed to be successful before we hit the water. (only shop on LBI that I am aware of that offers an instructional tour)! My paddle and board were fitted for my height, and weight and my beginner status. After little fuss we hit the water and as I said I have not looked back since. I purchased my third Board here just this past Sunday and it could not have been any more pleasant. Again — expert staff with knowledge abound. In fact the owner and waterman extraordinare Ken Encouraged me to take out a similar demo board before I made my purchase just so I could Be sure. Sold!!! Looking forward to my next visit to the shop when I am in Beach Haven. Maybe this summer for ukulele night or some Paddleboard yoga. or a fun bunch of people to paddle out with. Class act top to bottom. Thanks South End Surf and Paddle

South End and it’s staff made the purchasing of my first SUP a great experience. Ken and his crew are highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They offered Demo’s & lessons without pressuring us to buy. We got a great deal and benefited from great customer service. I can say, after a few months of enjoying my board, I would gladly recommend South End to anyone looking to get into the sport!

Just got back from SUP yoga and it was awesome! Really great class. None in our group had paddle boarded before and minimal yoga experience, but we figured we’d go for it. All the instructors were super supportive and positive and it was a fun experience. The yoga class was tailored for being on a paddle board and the sunset was absolutely stunning! The yoga teacher, Gabrielle, was a great instructor and was also hilarious. All in all, the entire night was great and we were so glad we did it!

Seasoned pros and great locals who make a SUP experience truly one-of-a-kind. Great value as well. Love the shot with the dog… though I’m not sure if he/she is enjoying the lesson so much! Ha…

Kenny and the rest the crew at South End are nothing short of top notch! I have done business with them in the past and got my first SUP with them. They are always very knowledgable and helpful too there customers, they also do a great job of working with the first timers! There lessons are laid back and are great for anyone just starting out or a novice wanting to learn some new cool tricks. For island rentals of SUP, Surf, skate and other cool beach toys I would HIGHLY recommend Kenny and the great group at South End!

did my first stand-up paddle lesson via south end this week with my sis and it did not disappoint. i was very happy with the high level of service and value of my lesson and the overall SUP experience. ken is very reachable and approachable and made us noobs very excited to get out on the water and try SUP. Jesse(our trainer/new buddy) made the learning experience very laid back and easy. actually– all south end people i encountered(woman at the front desk, ken, and jesse) were all very laid back, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. after 1 lesson we are both confident enough to rent equipment from South End and do some SUP on our own. I would DEFINITELY recommend South end’s lessons and rental service and would even consider buying equipment off them in the future. Excellent value for your $$!!
