This Chinese takeout is in the Governors Square strip mall between a K-Mart and ShopRite. It’s a very busy strip mall, so this place too is busy. Be prepared to wait a while if you’re coming at dinner time and haven’t phoned in your order. Despite their apparent popularity, I thought their food was really only about average. The key characteristic of average Chinese takeout is the dreaded yellow fried rice. This evening, we tried the pork egg foo young and sesame chicken. I thought the sesame chicken was pretty good but I’ve had better egg foo young from other takeouts in the area. Service was okay, considering that the lady at the counter barely had time for anything because she had to handle the phone while dealing with customers in the store.

For several years, we owned a business a few doors up from New Great Wall. During that time, it was consistently one of the better Chinese take-out restaurants in this part of Delaware. Not any more. New cooks? New owners maybe? Some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. With daughter 3 home from college, and wife & son working late, daughter and I opted for Chinese. It’s been a couple years, but we wanted good food. New Great Wall 2015. Total waste of $ 55. Shrimp and broccoli. Besides being greasy without much sauce, the shrimp were mushy(paste-like) and smelled very strong. Obviously old, on the edge of being spoiled. Nasty! House special fried rice. Three of the same mushy shrimp, some chicken & pork bits, no vegetables in the dry rice and absolutely no flavor. None. But that was developing to be a theme for the meal. Pork egg foo young with extra gravy. A favorite of son and mine. Not this one. Tough consistency and, surprise, no flavor. Very bland. Shrimp egg rolls? No shrimp to speak of and no flavor. Come on! It’s an egg roll. one of the basic parts of the Chinese menu. I’ve eaten frozen ones better than these. Fried crab meat wontons. Decent size wonton but skimpy filling — once again without flavor. So what you’re left with is fried wonton corners. Oh well. The dog enjoyed them. The only entrée that was up to par was the sweet and sour chicken. However, to my taste, it’s greasy, doughy coating on chicken pieces. It’s not one of my favorite foods, so I remain underwhelmed. At least the white rice was good. That’s fortunate because rice, along with fortune cookies, was all the daughter could stomach. I can’t imagine going back, that’s how bad the food was…

Thought for Friday lent to try 2 spring roll special for $ 1.75, the jumbo fried shrimp with shrimp fried rice $ 7.50 and crab cheese wontons $ 4.25. Now adding everything up should be total of $ 13.50. I was charged $ 14.50 . In addition to all of this, the owner-manager had a very bad attitude and was very short with everyone ordering, and if you asked him a question about ingredients FORGETABOUTIT … I’m trying to like this place. Going to try this place and give it one more shot at my business and hard earned money, THAT’S IT …

We have lived in the area for 20 years and have tried the other Chinese take outs. This is the better of them all. They are generous with their portions and are quick with the service. Give them a try… you will not get disappointed!

Excellent food and service. Fast and delicious and they aren’t stingy. Big helpings and always gives you plenty of sauce. I go here often and never leave disappointed, and always end up with a couple extra fortune cookies :)
