*Sigh* This used to be my first choice place to shoot pool. Although I only accompany; never play. Apparently, there is some kind of brand/management change going on. Not completely sure, but the last Saturday night I was there, there was a LOT of bikers. BIG bikers and a LARGE mixed crowd. This go round the crowd was fairly mixed-as to be expected when anywhere in Beaumont-but VERY thin. I recall the cover wasn’t blatantly gouging either at last visit. This time around, I went with my husband, sister, and her fiancé from out of town. We were all dressed appropriately; even overdressed comparing our sweatpants clad counterparts. While at the door the hostess informed us we were denied entry because my sister had an open container. It was a Full Throttle that neither my husband nor I had seen her walk in with. We squared away the issue with the open container, but again were denied entry because I ‘appeared slightly intoxicated’. I told the hostess I was sober(I was!) but looking forward to imbibing. She was not amused and informed me we were STILL not getting in because of TABC laws AND that my sister’s fiancé was not within dress code. We righted this by pointing out the required dress code and bringing to light that my husband is TABC certified and therefore knows it’s laws and knows that I had not presented myself as ‘falling down drunk’ or even ‘mildly intoxicated’. Therefore there was no reason to impede my admission. Then we were told she’d spoken to her manager and they’d decided we weren’t to be admitted. Feeling slighted and annoyed, I requested to speak with said manager only to be met with a look of ‘seriously?’ from the hostess. After several unsuccessful requests to speak with management while talking to her, I noticed the manager(who’d had been at the door the entire time!!) sneaking away. I spoke with her and she agreed I didn’t appear to have been drinking, that my sister did indeed have an energy drink, and her fiancé was within dress code. She said«It seems that there was some confusion.» and permitted our admission. We were greeted with an $ 11 cover per person, a $ 62 tab after my sister naively ordered a $ 13 mixed drink(that was built on Stoli vodka!), and the 6 beers between the other three of us As I said, I am not sure if they are indeed rebranding, but if they are; we were simply looking for a few games of billiards and the required Dos Equis. Also, the metal music, while not completely off putting– was entirely out of whatever vibe they are attempting to portray. I don’t know that I will be back which is sad considering my husband’s love of pool.

wacth the drink prices. 13.25 for a multi liquor drink! My bill was outrageous. Prices bordered on illegal. too smoky, music co-opted by metal heads. That was a drag. drinks were ok on liquor but too expensive. never again.

I’ve been to 4 or 5 different bars in town since I travel for a living and I’m content in saying that Fast Eddie’s is now going to be my regular, local stop. I’ve been in other locations before and well… I’m a fan of this one. The bartenders and wait staff are super friendly and attentive and the music is good. For the most part, the pool tables are well taken care of and the drinks were cheap on Monday night. It was $ 3 for pool all night and well… that’s a steal at a place that has nice, 8 foot tables. Tack on golden tee and ping pong and I’m here every time I’m in Beaumont.

It’s a pool hall; you can’t expect too much. The location is pretty accessible, it’s inside a huge parking lot, so it’s nice not having to look for parking on the street. We went on a Friday and we paid $ 5 per person for the whole night. That’s a steal! Usually places will charge you by the hour. So you can play with people or play alone. The only thing I would do is that if you are taking up multiple tables ask the waitress which ones are hers, because they each wait on different tables and you can’t take someone’s table and not order anything. The food is overpriced. I got the pizza and it was fine, but for $ 8? My only complaint is all the smoking. At 8pm it was still relatively empty, but by 10pm it was packed and filled with smoke. 2 showers later the next day i was feeling a little less smoky. They had the games on too, so you can play pool and keep up on sports. No complaints.

On my tour of Beaumont this was my penultimate stop. My friend described it to me as a fun pool hall and good place to hang out and basically he was right. We went on a Monday night around 9 so things were pretty quite. I think of pool hall with molding drop ceilings and Budweiser posters on the wall, but Fast Eddie’s had a much classier vibe. Don’t get me wrong, there wasn’t Bach playing in the background, but the décor is much closer to a cool dive bar. Dar wood walls, vintage signs and hanging pool lights. We sat at the bar, but you can also get drinks while playing pool. The wandering bartenders as well as the ones at the bar were both attentive and made sure you were always offered a beer. I am only giving Fast Eddie’s 2 Stars, but that is because we went on a slow Monday night. I am sure their rating will go up, but I’ll have to experience it on a weekend night.
