When I first moved to Beaumont, Texas in 2007, my family loves donuts and kolaches so finding a favorite donut place wasn’t to hard to find since there was one across the street from us. We went there 2 – 3 times daily and it wasn’t the best but alright. But just kept going there because the it was across from the apartment I was staying in. Then I moved across town and needed to find a closer donut place to get my donuts and kalaches. One day on the way to work, I saw Happy Donuts off the hwy and told my husband to stop in. It was an older building by itself. When I walked in, the couple there were very friendly. She greeted me with a smile. I ordered 3 jalapeño kolaches, 2 glazed donuts, 2 chocolate, and 2 cinnamon twists. She added some donut holes for us which was very nice of her. When I got to work and ate one of the jalapeño kolaches, I feel in love. It was way better than the other place I use to go to. One of the best ones I have tried. You could definitely taste the heat of the jalapeños and the cheese all combined together in the sausage. I like that the kolache was not all bread but just enough. So if you are driving through Beaumont, be sure to stop by and try their jalapeño kolaches. You will love it.

I was recommended to grab a kolache from this place when passing through Beaumont on the way to Lake Charles. This place is an old and small standalone building off the highway. When I walked in, I was greeted by a nice lady at the counter. I ordered 2 jalapeño kolaches. WOW! No exaggeration, when I say this was the BEST kolache I’ve ever had. The sausage was plentiful and filled with cheese and jalapeño(vs. other places that has the sausage, cheese, and jalapeño separately). The jalapeño actually had some spice to it too. The bread was buttery and the right proportion to the sausage. Other places typically has a higher bread to sausage ratio. It may be worth making the drive from Houston just to get another one. If you’re in Beaumont or just passing through, I definitely recommend stopping by this specific Happy Donut for the best kolache you’ll ever have.
