Hometown Property Mangement

The house that I rented from was managed by this company. In all fairness, we didn’t have any problems with them until we were ready to stop the lease andneeded to do a walkthrough to finalize the return of the security deposit. We set it up with the owner of Hometown Property (David– a bear to work with) and the owner of the house. The walkthrough went smoothly– so we thought. When we got our security deposit back, they had charged us for things that were already addressed during the walk through that the owner acknowledged was not our problem. e. g)He didn’t waterproof the wooden fence and it warped and rotted causing the gate lock to fall off. Also, they charged us for carpet cleaning saying that it was professionally cleaned before we moved in so we are liable for it to be professionally cleaned after we move out (since we signed a document, they said). We told them we understood, but to produce the document since we didn’t remember signing such a document. They took the amount out of our deposit but failed to produce the document. We’re still waiting after several phone calls. The girl who works there (Sarah) is horrible to work with. I told them that they could take the final trash bill from my deposit and use it to pay the trash company. I told her the amount and when I got my itemized receipt of the deductions (I asked them to send it with my final check), I saw that they had quadrupled the deduction to the disposal company. I called her to look into that because it’s incorrect. A week later, I called her to see if she had corrected it. She told me that it was because I had bounce two checks and it was back payment to the disposal company! I told her she was lying to me– since I don’t use checks. I did all my payments online and deducted it straight out of my checking account. Bottom line– she forgot to call and was making stuff up. I told her to call them immediately, and a few minutes later, she called me saying that the company was issuing a check to me for the almost $ 200 difference. I’m still waiting on the news about the carpet cleaning.
Overall, they shorted us almost $ 1000 of our security deposit.
Very unprofessional and incompetent! The owner once purposely hung upon me because I was unhappy about his service.
