Beard Papa’s

You’re able to pick your own puff pastry shell and variety of filling flavors from their daily menu. I had their Pumpkin, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Dulce de leche fillings. The chocolate was my favorite. I usually like the normal original cream puff flavor anyway, so the extra flavors can be a bit rich for me. Located inside Uwajimaya.

We love the mini cream puffs from the Beard Papa’s inside Uwajimaya. It was a good deal, with a groupon. We love the Dulce de Leche filling. We called them to order 10 mini puffs, and after 30 minutes, we went to get them, and they were fresh, and were really good. I wish they would have mini puffs all day, so we wouldn’t have to order ahead of time. I highly recommend their cream puffs.

Great tasting filling, delicious cream puffs that makes my day just a bit sweeter, a bit creamier and dreamier; that is if you’re lucky enough to get a decent amount of the crème filling to truly enjoy the essence of Beard Papa’s cream puff at the beaverton store located inside Uwajimaya.
Hey lady behind the counter last 07/​11/​/​15 at 625pm (i think you might be the owner because I saw you on some tv news promoting the store’s grand opening): I know I came darn near closing time but:
1. You are selling cream-​puffs, not just puffs! You underfilled my puffs to the point where there were large pockets of insides with no cream! I mean, really I saw you heaved and pumped that last bit of crème from the presumably empty container and I could hear farting noises out of the pump but you wouldn’t stop. W-​h-​a-​t i-​n t-​h-​e w-​o-​r-​l-​d!!!
2. You told me «you buy 11 you get 1 free.» I bought 16. You rang up and charged me $ 38.
Now I’m not good at arithmetic but no matter how bad I am at math I still don’t see how you would be able to come up with the $ 38.
I bought 16, so if I get 1 free according to you, it should be $ 2.50/cream puff x 15 = $ 37.50.
I am obviously counting pennies. I’m counting pennies because you need to know that it is wrong to underfill your cream puffs. It undermines the taste of Beard Papa’s cream puffs and nevermind its reputation being tarnished by your action it does not justify the cost. The store’s gimmicky offer of 1 free per 11 is a load of air, evidently served up by you when you worked so hard to pump it out of the empty cream container.
Do you know what a fully filled cream puff from Beard Papa tastes like lady? I wouldn’t know from eating any made by you.
It doesn’t matter how good a product tastes, you will not get repeat customers if you leave them feeling cheated.

Ordered 3 dozen today ans was helped by a super friendly gal. Puffs good but a tad pricey. My fav is the green tea.

I had never even realized there was a separate, stand-​alone bakery inside Uwajimaya (if you haven’t been there, as soon as you walk in, turn left, walk and look up and you’ll see «Beard Papa» sign).
I got 6 big puffs — 2 each of vanilla, chocolate and peach. I thought vanilla was the best. I liked that they fill the cream when you order — rather than already filled cream puffs sitting on the shelf. The employee who helped me was helpful and friendly that I thought of giving him a hi-​five with «duuude, you’re just awesome!» but I just went with lame «thanks so much!». I just loooove the great customer service — sadly rare these days.
Btw, it’s good — not too sweet is the best part for me and you can taste that they’re fresh. I don’t think the price is too high given what you get. Note, though, if you let the puffs sit (I put my leftovers in the fridge for a few hours), they do get soggy (naturally), so eat them right away.

Several years ago, they finally opened a location in Oregon. I don’t think all Beard Papa’s are made the same or I feel that it is not as good as when we had to drive to all the way to Vancouver… B.C. to get a Beard Papa’s cream puff.
My favourite is the Cookie Crunch Puff with Vanilla or Dulce de Leche (combination of caramel and sweet cream). This Beard Papa’s location doesn’t offer all the seasonal filling flavors listed on the site. However, it does have special flavors unique to the northwest, like a Hazelnut filling. They always have vanilla, chocolate, and green tea then an additional rotating flavor.
The cream puffs are good but they aren’t the «world’s best» as advertised to be. If you happen to be shopping at Uwajimaya and craving something sweet, try one.

MMMM… Fattening goodness. Brought home a half dozen for my wife and I and we scarfed them while watching old original Star Trek episodes. We like the plain vanilla and I like that they are made Japanese style; Not too sweet!
The downside, they are 250 miles away from our present location.

Suprised to read all the negative reviews. I will admit that the first time I had one of their puffs, I was a bit disappointed. I tried a plain vanilla filled puff when they first opened, and were still learning how to make their puffs. They were pretty plain at the time and left something to be desired. I gave them another shot a couple weeks later with an éclair, and I can confidently say I am glad I gave them another shot! I crave these bad boys constantly… but alas, I live about 40 minutes away. I pretty much have to rush over to Beaverton after work if I want to get my fix. I recommend the éclair with vanilla filling, it’s the perfect balance. Be prepared though, you will need a napkin, guaranteed!!! It’s worth it, I promise :)

Yesterday I tried Beard Papa’s for the first time and love it. $ 2.50 for a giant cream puff might be expensive for some, but I thought that it was worth it. I knew that it was going to be good because they had specific instructions (i.e. time, temperature, etc.) for eating it. That’s always a good sign!
The chocolate coating was fun and crunchy and contrasted well against the smooth vanilla cream. One was enough to fill the cream puff-​shaped void in my stomach as I shopped at Uwajimaya.

I love all beard papas. My all time favorite combo is the chocolate puff with green tea filling. I always order ½ pump because the filling gets everywhere midway through. They have rotating flavors every week.
The baker said she sells some pies every week only whole pies. I’m interested to try her banana cream pie next time.

For a sweet tooth, I’m glad I restrained myself and only purchased one cream puff:
CHOCOLATE ECLAIR CREAM PUFF + VANILLA FILLING ($ 2.50): I know Beard Papa’s praises upon fresh and natural cream puffs. The natural part, I totally get and tasted. But as for fresh? I’m not too sure. For one thing, I was a bit disappointed that the cream puff bread was a bit dry and tough to manipulate.
But not everything was a lackluster!!! I did enjoy the chocolate that encased the cream puff and the vanilla crème filling it had inside. They were quite generous with that vanilla filling! So generous, that it can easily ooze out and overflow, leaving you with drippings upon your shirt, hands and face!
This location is located inside the Uwajimaya grocery store. They have no relation to the grocery store itself so paying for your grocery items here is prohibited and you’d have to take that transaction at the regular check-​out stand.
Service was great! The kind gentleman was able to whip up my cream puff in a jiffy and send me out on my way. I was able to pay for my goodies (accepts CC: Visa & Mastercard) and head on out to enjoy my dessert.
I would give these cream puffs another try, but not any time soon.

I found the cream puffs I tried earlier were the mini ones.
I got a wild hair the other day and bought half a dozen regular sized and one of the Fondant Au Chocolate Cakes.
I liked the Chocolate covered Cream Puff and the plain one, the Carmel was too much and too messy and gooey. Overall better the 2^nd time, however they are not inexpensive, it was over $ 16.00 for the half a dozen and the tiny cake.

I was excited at my latest trip to Uwajimaya to see this new Beard Papa’s stand. There was quite a line and since my last experience with Beard Papa’s was over a year ago in California, I thought I’d give it another try.
Honestly, there is nothing special about these cream puffs. Yes, they are larger than your average puff, but that shouldn’t mean you have to sacrifice having a dried out shell. There’s a difference between a properly baked flaky shell, and stale-​which is what these tasted like. And the price is a total turn off. I can’t recall the exact price but it was around 3 dollars. (possibly 2.75 for a plain and a little more for a fancier one)
Regardless, I got a plain with custard filling and an éclair one with custard. Neither were good and I ended up throwing half of everything away. I was so disappointed I went home and made my own batch the next day for about the same cost as those 2.
Oh well, call it a lesson learned. I gave them a chance. Won’t be wasting my money in the future.

I was delighted with my choice of matcha filling and a éclair type shell. I wish there were more flavor options, but I enjoyed what there was to work with.
A lot of other reviewers complain about the service, which I agree that on the weekend they are busy enough to be stressed and short. I do go anywhere on the weekend for this reason, and my experience on a Wednesday afternoon was a pleasant one. No wait, no bad feelings, just good crème puffs.

Like what other reviewers said, these cream puffs are alright. They are yummy and they are spendy. ($ 13 for 6).
The turned off factor for me is the SERVICE. I don’t know why management put the most unfriendly person at the end of the line where this person must give customers their orders. The girl who was at the end of the line when we were there, literally push the box on the counter and said «Enjoy» without making eye contacts.
I might be back maybe in a year. Hopefully they are still in business.

I can’t believe the negative reviews I’m reading on this place. Blasphemy! The cream puffs are delicious. They are huge — probably the size of a fist, which is plenty for one person, but you will want another one. The outside is just crispy enough as a pastry shell should be. And the inside is not filled with what I’d consider cream. It’s almost a pudding. A thick, rich, decadent custard that is a dessert serving in itself. The plain puff with vanilla filling is the best. And they are indeed best if eaten immediately, as they tell you.
The flavors here are not supposed to be out of this world, weird, or different. Just very well done, simple, absolutely delicious cream puffs. You will love.
P. S. They close at 7 p.m. Not 9 p.m. like the rest of the store. Learned this the hard way after hyping my cream puff craving up all day…

just to be clear, the 4 stars are for the food and not for the service… let’s get some details.
We tried multiple times the puffs and the taste is really what they should be, right flavor, not too excessive, Asian-​style, the outside crisp. For all the westerns out there, you might not like it if you are used to super duper favor-​added sweets u find in this country :). I tried this shop in Tokyo and this is the real thing… not Americanized (and that’s a good thing :))
Vanilla is delicate, my favorite, and matcha is great, sweet with a bit of bitterness at the end, just as it should be.
Outside is crisp and delicate. just one comment: the shape… in other Beard Papa’s shops, the outside is rounded, here is more… random irregular shape. Staff pls, get better at this.
Filling i think is too little. As i said i have been to several Beard Papa’s even in Japan and the filling is definitely much more (as it should be)… stop weighing to the gram, and make a filling cream puff please. you’ll get more happy clients this way. and sometime the irregular shape makes the situation worst.

SERVICE is the biggest concern. Lines of people waiting and staff way too slow. I understand they need to practice more and probably in a couple of months they are OK, but still, i think they need to work on it.
funny thing is they continue to move the Order /​Pick up back and forth :)
one thing disappointed me is one evening we went there 15 minutes before the official closing (just for that…) and the lady said: «sorry no more», we are out of it… I think you guys really should pump cream puffs and filling until 1 minute after the closing hour, not 15 minutes before…
Last time (yesterday) they seem to do a better job, but still there was a long line.
And hey, when the lady tells the name of the client for pick up, nobody can hear… Please speak up :) :)

It’s already a given that this is just cream puff. Don’t expect glitters and Dolce and Gabbana scents to diffuse while you take a bite.
Get real. And probably eat moderately.
They are good if you like your flavors bland. But they have been bland which is what I’ve liked about it.
I am certain that there are other bakeries that puts ooomph in their cream puffs.
I like my cream puff just as I like the Oregon weather, a little bit of sun makes me smile.

This is a hard one to review, since the food is delightful but the service is horrific. The cream puff I had was absolutely perfect. It was crispy on the outside, the shell light and airy but crispy, just like it should be. Better than it should be. How do they do that? The green tea filling was light and delicious. The two together were ethereal, like a cloud of goodness, not too sweet, just right.
That was Saturday, the day after they opened. I went back on Sunday, when they supposedly open at 9. I got there at 9:30. No one knew what to do. I stood in the order line in front of a staff person who was writing something in front of me. He continued to write. I waited patiently. He kept writing. Now, he was right in FRONT of me. He saw me. He totally ignored me. I finally decided they must not be ready to open, even though they should have been. I left.
In six months I will go back and re-​review. The food is a five star. The price is $ 2.25 or $ 2.50 for the cake. Don’t forget the chocolate cake. I forget the name but you can’t miss it. It is filled with some heavenly substance that is similar to cream but a bit denser. I ate my little cake in three bites. So go, get the puffs and the cake, and give them a few months to get their line going in a normal manner. Right now, I won’t go back even for that level of cream puff. The service is just awful.
One final note. It wasn’t just Sunday that turned me off. On Saturday when we first got there, everyone was just twirling around and looked lost. Hubby ordered but even though he was second in line, it took ten minutes for the order. That was the day after they opened. So you see, it’s not just me one day. It was both days. And I think the reviews here confirm that.

Beard Papa’s have finally arrived in Oregon! Store is conveniently located inside Uwajimaya in Beaverton. Original BP location opened in Osaka, Japan back in 1999 and the franchise has expanded globally since then. There are 16 U.S. locations in USA, as well as more than 300 stores in 17 countries worldwide. It is easy to see why the bakery has done so well, as each cream puff is made fresh daily and filled right in front of your eyes.
The original goes for $ 2.25 each, but it is fairy large and I find it to be a meal in itself. At 220 calories that would put me on a diet (laughs) I’ve seen many customers order half a dozen to even two dozen to be given out to family and friends, or just sample every product in each different flavors. Custard is made from all natural ingredients with no preservatives, and not too sweet. It is so rich and creamy — you can even see real vanilla bean specks inside! My mother’s favorite is the green tea filling, which may be acquired taste for some but it is very popular among oriental customers. I can’t wait till chocolate filling is ready. Until then I like to heat up the Fondant Au Chocolate with napkins handy, as it does ooze out Belgian chocolate. :)
Workers are energetic and greets you whenever you pass by the store with a smile, and always eager to answer any questions regarding the product and company. Yellow apron and tall white chef hat is a cute trade mark outfit of BP, and most seemed to be bilinguals as well. I make cream puff at home every now and then but it is so time consuming I rarely make a batch. Now I just commute on a bicycle for a lovely treat. You may want to arrive at least half an hour before closing, as it may sell out.
