I liked this place. Sorry to see that is is now CLOSED!

I’ve been coming in for years. And I’ve had completely different experiences than the Unilocalers who have given 1 or 2 stars. The chicken has been perfectly done almost every single time I’ve visited. Their sauces are good enough to buy separately, and the staff is always very friendly. The food is a good value, and while the décor is old sports posters, that’s part of the charm. I can eat here every week. I recommend giving Chicken Bar a try.

I bet the sign company screwed up and put«Chicken Bar» instead of «Chicken Bento» and the owners just went with it. While it may not be pretty, and the menu is kinda cluttered and confusing, this place delivers what it says it does: Chicken! You get a wide selection of sauces from teriyaki, BBQ, to sweet habanero. The selection of chicken ranges from grilled chicken to more grilled chicken. White rice, brown rice, pasta, and steamed veggies. Soup and chili. I normally get the chicken and rice, teriyaki, and steamed veggies. They could use more broccoli florets, as I usually seem to have too many cheap stems. But I know those cost more, and they may be trying to keep costs down. This makes me wonder where they get their chicken. I’ll ask next time I eat there and update this review. The motif is sports. Usually ESPN on the couple of flat screen TVs hanging on the walls. It’s good and can be lower calorie. And for that, this place is a great alternative to the other fast casual places in the area.

It is just ok but not really worth paying for. I’ve eaten here twice and both times I’ve left thinking«why did I just waste my money when I can make this 10x more delicious at home?». hmm Fail.

Whyyyyyyyy? It’s not even ok. I can never seem to win with the chicken or the rice! The chicken is often dry or has odd crunchy bits that make you just want to stop eating. The rice is either dry or mushy. Sometimes crusty – that’s the worst offense to me. When you mess up the rice, to an Asian that’s like messing up something sacred! Rice isn’t hard to cook! The sauce is okay when it’s not watery! Service is neither good nor bad. It just is. I feel so upset I wasted the 4 trips to this place that I’ve made! That’s a rare feeling for me – regret of food. I could have filled my stomach with something that actually tasted and looked good! Why did I keep trying it might you ask? Because in highschool(ya know, back in the day) every guy and half the girls couldn’t shut up about this place! Now I just feel terribly bad for them if that was what they considered good. Or acceptable. Or food. I guess if you were to compare it to school lunch… no. Sadly, I’d rather have the school lunch.

Gosh this place has been here since I was a kid so they must be doing something right… right? So took the fiancé here after we got done running an errend. The place is clean and has old posters of sports stars like Charles Barkely when he was skinny, Michael Jordan’s Wing poster, and other players. A nice décor but that’s about where it ends. The chicken is dry, I mean bland almost hard to swallow dry. Sure it may come off the grill moist but put it into that steamer and you got your self over cooked dry rubbery chicken. I had the Chiliyaki chicken. I was thinking more of a dark teriyaki sauce with maybe some chilie infused taste or something but really what it really was is just a orange looking sauce over rice, more like something you find at Buffalo Wild Wings Asian Zing. While I applaud them for making a healthy meal I’m not happy about dry, unseasoned chicken. It doesn’t have that«fresh» feel to it.

Umm I don’t have much to add that has not been said before. The rice was undercooked and crunchy the chicken was dry as a bone and indeed the veggies are frozen and out of a bag, I have tried it twice and I vowed I shall never darken their doors again. ITISJUSTGROSS, I can get a salad from Trader Joe’s next door which tastes better than this garbage.

I like chicken and I like bars, but don’t feel the same way about Chicken Bar. The concept of a quick more healthy and cheaper meal is appealing, but that’s about the most this place has going for it. The bowl I had wasn’t bad, but it was totally bland. The sauce gave the chicken no boost at all. I’m better off making some steam rice, cutting up chicken, adding some sauce and throwing it in a bowl on my own. If I’m too lazy to do that then I guess there is always Chicken Bar.

The husband and I have been driving by the Chicken Bar for almost a year, but the Unilocal reviews kept us away. Yesterday, however, I decided to give it a try. It really wasn’t bad. In fact, it was pretty tasty. I’ve been trying to eat a little healthier lately, and this place has good options. I ordered the chicken with veggies with teriyaki and chili sauce. The veggies were perfectly cooked, the chicken was decent, and the sauces were exactly what I expected. Overall, I liked it. If you want a quick and healthy lunch, this place is a-ok.

We had such amazing service at the place. The lady went out of her way and brought our 3 year old some extra chicken and rice because she wasn’t sure if the sauce we ordered would be too spicy for him. She also brought us extra sauce without us even asking when we got a to go box. Portion sizes are big and the pasta salad is delicious. I loved the cajun rubbed BBQ chicken. Tell your friends and support this local business!

I can’t think of enough bad things to say about this place. The chicken is crap that has been sitting around all day, the sauces they use could have been bought at the Fred Meyer across the parking lot, the rice is crunchy, the counter and floor are dirty, and oh yeah, the staff are a bunch of jerks. God help you if you ask a question. I didn’t even know it was possible for a person to roll their eyes that far back in their heads. I guess its cheapness is a good thing but only if you want to feel cheap coming out of there.

Is there a Unilocal award for most suprising place in a strip mall? If so, Chicken Bar in Beaverton wins. I finally stopped in for some take out after passing this place so many times. There were about 10 people in line ahead of me, with only one person working so there was a little wait. However, it was well worth it. Fresh chicken breasts were sizzling on the grill, being cut up right in front of us, while vegetables were steamed one order at a time. In the end, what you get is simple — plump chicken breast strips over rice with veggies if you want, and a choice of about 4 sauces squirted on top. I got the Chiliyaki(mix of sweet chili and teriyaki, duh) and they put just the right amount of sauce on top. The chicken itself has such a great flavor, though, that it doesnt need much. I was super impressed. And after 5:00, the chicken dinner is only $ 5! Def enough for dinner and potentially lunch the next day.

I don’t know what happened to this place? They used to make it cook to order if you ask for it? I know they pre-cook the chicken then put into a steamer. So I ask for a fresh one(meaning take out a raw piece) then cook it usually taking 7 minutes. But the hispanic guy tells me it would take 45min to cook? Are you kidding me! I know how long it takes to grill a chicken breast at your store. Just tell me you didn’t want to make me one. So he tells me the one that’s been sitting in the steamer was fresh LOL! I’ve been going their off and on and now I will not be going there again for rubber chicken.

This used to be somebody’s favorite haunt when he lived here ten years ago. Chicken Bar has the basics — chicken and rice. When we walked in for a «snack» it was after five on a weekday so CB had the 5 pm til closing special for $ 5 — a heap of rice, chicken and sauce. Ok for $ 5. It was a basic bowl w/4 strips of a large chicken breast. Teri sauce was ok, sweet, thick and generic. I’ve had better. I liked that they offered brown or white rice. I kind of smelled like the chicken grill when I left.

Hi… This is Arnold. As you know, Arnold is número uno bodybuilder. I let you know that the Chicken Bar will pump you up. It makes my plus-size pecs pulse with excitement. Nobody prepares bland fitness food better than Chicken Bar! People always ask me for my fitness advice. It’s simple — if it jiggles, it’s fat. This dry, overcooked chicken breast does not jiggle. The plain brown rice does not jiggle. The sweet chili sauce or cajun sauce does not jiggle. Eat this food and you will not jiggle. I also notice that they put no seasonings on their tasteless steamed vegetables. That is good. Sodium makes you bloat like my buddy Rush Limbaugh after late-night Krispy Kreme binge. OMG look at my knuckles when I eating the chicken. They are hoooge! I bring Ted Nugent here the other day and he think we should be able to shoot the chicken with bow and arrow first. My NRA lobbyists tell me that shooting our food is a fundamental god-given right. As governator, I will work to make it so all Americans can kill it before we grill it. I suggest this to Chicken Bar. That would get Chicken Bar extra star. This food is not for girlie men. I’ll be back…

Hubs had been dragging me into The Original Chicken Bar for over a decade now… I’m always reluctant, and I usually walk away shaking my head, wondering how this place stays in business. It is fast. It is low fat. I appreciate that they offer brown rice with their bentos, but that’s where the appreciation ends with me. The chicken is ALWAYS significantly over-cooked. The chicken breasts seem abnormally huge(indicative of hormone plumping) and they are STILL over-cooked… Back in they day, when the chicken was on skewers it was more, shall we say, palatable… but these days it’s just dry chicken on brown rice. Hubs drowns his in the sweet chili sauce, which I’m sure adds significant calories… I just chew. And chew. And chew… I would rather go across the street to Best Teriyaki, where the chicken(thighs, I’m sure) has bits of onion and zucchini on the skewers. I’m just a glutton for flavor like that.

I have been eating at The Chicken Bar for over 13 years. The sauces are all made by the owner(Teriyaki, Sweet Chili, Chili-yaki and now BBQ) and are available in your local grocery store. Fresh grilled chicken(NEVERFROZEN!), brown or white rice and choice of sauces — SIMPLE, HEALTHYANDFAST!!! My boys(13 and 11) and I eat here at least once a week or I grab dinner takeout for home. If you are trying to «diet» or watch what you eat — read the sauce labels — they have little or no fat and very low sodium! The chicken serving size is 6oz., very generous for the price. I buy extra sauces for my house and we use them at home for meatballs and burgers, too. The motto on the logo«It’s all Good» — is so true! YUMM!

This is a place I drove by almost on a daily basis but never found myself at. A few nights ago, I decided to give it a whirl. It was 8:55pm and when I drove up, it looked as though they were cleaning up getting ready to close. I didn’t want to bother them so I started reversing out of the stall when the guy waves me back in. I was stoked! The restaurant is clean and simple. I was liking what I saw and was getting excited about the food. The guy who I think was the owner, explained that they were in business for 19 years, so I’m thinking that this place must be amazing. The menu was simple enough and I opted for the chicken breast teriyaki and sweet chile sauce, which was the most popular item on the menu, according to the owner. Guess what? The chicken wasn’t all cracked up to what I thought it would be. Not to sound mean or anything, but I honestly think they just use the frozen Tyson pre-cooked chicken breast found at Costco, no joke. When I’m in serious training, this is the very same dry tasteless chicken breast I buy for myself. The plate is literally four slices of this frozen chicken with a bottled teriyaki and chile sauce over rice. I honestly could not believe my eyes and taste buds! I couldn’t believe that a restaurant serving dishes like this could actually last for 19 years! The Chicken Bar isn’t bad, please don’t get me wrong. But honestly, it’s not good either. I’m no culinary cook, but I do whip up some decent dishes of my own, most of which, at least in my opinion, taste much better than the dry chicken found at the Chicken Bar.

Chicken Bar isn’t one of those restaurants you visit when your Aunt Thelma comes to town and you want to show off some of Portland’s finest cuisine. It’s a place you frequent on a regular basis, right before you walk through the doors of Trader Joe’s(to prevent over stuffing yourself with their free munchies or devouring a bag of their jalapeño cheese curls on your drive home), which is incidentally several doors down. It’s decent, healthy food with friendly service that you’re glad is in your own backyard. The food is fast, hot & healthy. It’s not gourmet(Mel G is right about the veggies – they’re obviously from the frozen food section). But they serve brown rice, which is excellent. I typically get the grilled chicken, veggies, & brown rice with no sauce. The grilling seems to bring out enough flavor for me. Where else can you get decent quick food for those diet/health conscious folks? Oh, and the proprietors are really nice too.

Awesome no-nonsense chicken! Just ate the Chicken Bar Special, comes with Charbroiled Chicken(choice of Cajun or Teriyaki), white or brown rice, vegetables or pasta, and a drink for $ 7.50. I had Cajun Chicken with Brown Rice and pasta. All was very simple, though very good. The pasta seemed a little over-dressed, but not a big deal. The décor in here includes many local(Blazers) and national sports posters. I was reading about Pistol Pete’s insane college accomplishments, and also glanced over at John Wooden’s pyramid of success while watching the Cardinals beat the Eagles on the flat screen TV. Friendly and fast service, great sports atmosphere, and very good(though simple) food. If I still lived nearby, I’d eat here often
