Cooper Mountain Nature Park

Love the trails! The views are breathtaking and there are a few different loops to go on. I’ve been to many of the local parks and this one is by far the cleanest. By clean I mean… no dog crap on the trails and no trash. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs… but some owners don’t pick up after their dog. Or they don’t have leashes and obviously they won’t know exactly where the dog took a dump. The website CLEARLY states that dogs are not allowed at this park. There is a great dog park just around the corner from this one.

Nice park in the city. Playground area for smaller kids. Paved parking lot. Nice trails. Pretty easy to take a 3 or 4 mile walk here without getting bored. Safe. Lots of hummingbirds on my walk today. No dogs allowed in the park. I saw lots of people running on the trails. Lots of areas have no shade so nice if you want some sun. Lots of views. I saw a sign that said sometimes bears and Cougars might come to the park but in guessing that’s rare. Probably more likely coyotes.

There are no dogs allowed in the nature park. I wish that had been clear on the website.

We are new to hiking and decided to start off here for our first time. it’s perfect for beginners and has some lovely views. Not My favorite, but it’s close to home, easy to get to and a nice little walk with the family.

I was checking around for a close by place to have a hike and came across this park. It’s got a beautiful view of the valley. Well maintained trails that are mostly tiny gravel. Easy to take one of the big wheeled strollers if you are so inclined. The parking lot is pretty small, which is a bit of a bummer. A small playground at the parking area and at least one picnic table there. No shade, so in the heat of summer, I’d imagine hot. Depending on which trail you take, lots of areas without any shade. Also, the parking lot is at the top of the hill, so all trails lead downhill, remember, the car is at the top of the hill, down is so much easier than up. It’s not bad, but on this my first trip, I didn’t venture to the bottom.
No pets allowed on the trails for the sake of wildlife. Too bad the same can’t be said for kids, ok just kidding, but if you want to see animals, they don’t like noise. The upper trail had a bunch of people, but down lower, it was pretty quiet.

Great nature park, with a decent amount of trails. Only negative thing to write is that the play structure for the kids had absolutely zero shade (no significant trees or man-​made cover), so it was a little too hot for a summer afternoon.
No dogs are allowed on the trails, but they felt safe for jogging as there was a decent volume of foot traffic.

This place is a gem. We were so excited to discover it is so close to our house. I love to walk there. There are several trails varying in difficulty – although I do not find any too difficult. There are bathrooms and areas for picnicking. I go here several times a week.

Love this place so much! Easily my favorite park in whole Beaverton and Hillsboro areas. It usually is very quiet and seldom gets crowded at all. It contains uphills and downhills in a loop of 3 miles of hiking so it is a good amount of exercises for hikers and runners.
I try to come here once a week, and each week the views are slightly different with all kinds of flowers blooming.

Ah! This place is a great hike with pretty views no matter what weather! The trails are easy with slight hills that make this a fav hike :) if you haven’t been here you are truly missing out. For the most part it is very quiet and serene. Love it!

Cooper Mountain Nature Park is, in my opinion, a hidden gem inside our city. It’s close proximity to my home makes it convenient and one of my favorite walking workouts due to the many hills. Be aware that the paths are gravel throughout which means extra caution needs to be taken especially going downhill (thus the four vs five star rating.) Additionally, please note that no pets are allowed :(My Maltese is really bummed out about that!
I love the vistas and enjoy the changing terrain from forested, moss-​covered trees to open prairie tall grass and wildflowers. I truly enjoy the different scents in the park — both when the seasons and terrain change. I often will do multiple (10+!) Larkspur Loops to increase my cardio workout.
There is also a small pond in the park, a few benches to rest, and plenty of wildlife to observe. I have personally seen a few deer, field mice, lots of birds, hawks, salamanders, ground squirrels? etc. but the one that blew me away was coming face-​to-​face with a mountain lion on Larkspur Loop. Quite the surprise for both of us! I usually walk with walking poles now just in case I need to protect myself from future surprises (and helps when walking on gravel!)
Typically, the park doesn’t get too crowded but I have had a few times where all the parking spots were full; some folks will park along the street but I think doing that is risky, so when Cooper Mtn park is full, I’ll usually drive down the road to Jenkins Estate park.
The park is open dawn to dusk and has a nice facility with two bathrooms. There is a play area for the kids, picnic tables and a sustainable local plant area.
The park does offer yoga classes in the facility which offers incredible views when the weather is clear. I’ve taken and tried signing up for the Saturday 9:00 am yoga classes and the class keeps getting cancelled due to not enough folks signing up… must be too early for most folks. The facility is small and a little chilly in the morning but if I remember correctly, the concrete floor is heated. But that view!! Maybe if more folks were aware of the yoga classes they might sign up? Michelle teaches the Sat am yin/​restorative yoga class and she is wonderful.

The air always smells sweet here. I don’t know why that is, but I love it.
Cooper Mountain is my favorite park in the entire Portland metro area. Let me tell you why.
There are no other parks out here I have seen that feature as much ecological diversity. Oak savanna interspersed with prairie and conifer woods give visitors alternating views of sun and shade – meaning you never really get too hot or too cold here, whatever the weather is doing. The steeps slopes and vast, open sweeps of prairie and oaks offer unparalleled views of the coastal range and the idyllic farmland and vineyards in between. Additionally, on clear days, one can also sight Mount Jefferson, shimmering like a diamond in the distance.
Wide, graveled and well-​maintained trails on a loop system means multiple combinations for hikes. The challenging, sloping terrain make trail running and cardiac training one of my favorite activities here. No matter which direction you go, the wider loops culminate in about 3 miles of actual distance with 400 – 600 feet of elevation loss or gain along rolling, up-​and-​down paths.
Dogs are not allowed here due to the noted presence of other, large mammals including black bear, coyotes and cougars. I’ve never even seen a squirrel here, but large mammal scat is ever-​present on the trails, and it definitely did not come from domestic dogs. The park authorities occasionally perform controlled burns, and there are signs of that in the spacious, open fields.
The vibe here is warm and inviting. The beauty is stunning. The workout is great. What more can I say?

Great place to soak up some nature on a walk. Watch out cause its all down hill at first, But up hill the whole way back. :)

I love this place! I’ve always had a great experience anytime I’m here. It’s a nice spot for a quick hike or run. It’s conveniently located on the westside. There is so much beauty at Cooper Mountain.

Such a great spot. Very well maintained, and hardly ever crowded.

Picturesque park with a few trails and loops showing off all the beauty Oregon has to offer. We spent a nice spring day here and though the parking lot was full, we didn’t run into too many people. Dogs are not permitted and the trails make for a moderate, serene walk with captivating views. Bathrooms and a play area are near the parking lot.

This my favorite quick outdoor spot on the westside. I live in Beaverton, so it’s only 10 minutes for me, but it truly feels like leaving the city and being out in the wilderness. Once you are out on the trail, there are no sights or sounds of the city.
I like to hike through here and mix up my route from 1 to 3 miles depending on how I am feeling. The parking lot, nature house, and play area are at the top, so no matter which route you take, you go fairly steeply downhill. Coming back up the steep hill is what makes it such a good workout. I keep telling myself that I have to keep going regularly until I don’t huff and puff on my way up :)
I’ve taken a 4 year old to play at the playground here and she loved the non-​traditional playground equipment. It’s also great to have the bathrooms — sort of like camping potties, but better than a portable toilet any day.
I’m also looking forward to trying out one of their yoga classes. Can’t beat that view.

Park is near my house so very convenient to visit. I love the different trails although I always take the largest. Perfect for trail running, or just a leisurely stroll. Beautiful landscape, wildlife, and fresh air. I couldn’t ask for a better place to be in nature.
There is also a little play ground for the kiddos. Bathrooms and picnic tables are also available.

Small nature park, but very nice. Well maintained paths, and nice short trails. View is very nice, and has a nice park for kids, and clean bathrooms.
They have cool listening devices to hear the birds as well. A place to check out if you haven’t gotten enough nature in Portland!

Went for a great hike today at Cooper mnt, it is a great local hike around 1000 ft with beautiful views of the coastal range and only about 20 min outside of the city. It is only about 3ml long but much of it an incline which gives you a good workout.

I like this park. It is a fun hike for me and my kids… But no dogs are allowed. There is a playground at the top of the mountain that feels like the top of the world. It looks like it has a lot of stargazing potential, but my kids are too young to be out that late.
