I’ve rated this place for what it is: a Panda Express-type joint with a fun name(which makes more sense if you actually pronounced ‘feng shui’ correctly). To clarify, it’s pronounced FONGSCHWAY– not FENGSHOOEY… And, you know you’re not eating at any place special, when the fare is displayed in heat pans and you have your choice of ‘1-item’, ‘2-item’ or ‘3-item’ combos. Akin to Panda Express or any of those mall/airport fast-food places that tout their cuisine as ‘Chinese’, Feng Shui Café’s offerings are very Americanized, which is to say that any hint of authenticity has been drastically dulled down and replaced with ingredients that cater to a more Westernized palate. I mean really, should they slather corn starch-thickened sauce on everything? Apparently so. And, since that’s the case, you’re better off sticking with predictable choices like«Orange», «Sesame» or the ever-popular«Sweet & Sour» variety. These will at least bring back that period in your life when you enjoyed hanging out at malls. Yet even in the competitive world of mall-specific Chinese fast-food, Feng Shui Café falls slighly short in the flavorful and value category. For instance, there was probably 90% breading around the 10% meat in their Orange Chicken. I don’t want to belabor the point any longer than I already have. If you’re looking for cheap, Chinese fast-food, Feng Shui can certainly fit that bill. But if you’ve got a hankering for even the most remote authenticy, mosey on over elsewhere– you ain’t gonna find it here.

I really wanted to like this place. The décor is kinda neat, it has free Wi-Fi, the owner is nice, the food looks fresh and they have specials that change pretty regularly(from the look of it). The bottom line is, the food wasn’t all that great. I ordered the sweet and sour pork and the mandarin chicken combo with brown rice. The rice was good. The pork had really thick, hard breading and the pork itself was really tough, like jerkey. The chicken had a similar texture on the coating but the meat itself was ok. The sauce on the chicken was supposed to be spicy but I found it instead to have an Ancho Chili type flavor(and texture) which is more chili-ish rather than spicy. Neither of these dishes were on the Recommended list so I may have just ordered the wrong thing.
