Hertz Rent A Car

Horrible company at least the collision center of Kuni. We were a claimant in an auto accident and they charged us for a portion the insurance company didn’t pay. I did not authorize it, nor was I informed about it and Hertz now says I need to deal with the insured’s insurance company! I also had to call them 3 times with them saying they’d call me back after they talk to a supervisor. Never got a call back, no assistance nor any empathy. Horrible company!

I rented my car from the Tigard location outside of Portland. If I had an option of zero stars that is what I would give them.
I arrived in early morning on a Thursday, sales person (male) was a little curt. Completed the paperwork then escorted me to the car to check for scratches, dings etc. The car was a Nissan Sentry (2014), scratches on just about every panel. I noticed the tires were very worn and said to him «these tires look worn, what happens if I get a blow-​out?» First he replied, «they passed the nickel test», then said, «if you get a blow-​out, that’s on you». Unbelievable. Then I told him I did not think the car was safe to drive and asked if he had something else I could rent. He said «no, there are no cars in your class». I was in the «C» class and told him I would downgrade to whatever he had, still «NO». Again, Unbelievable.
He said the car had a half tank of gas… NOT, it barely had ¼ tank.
I ended up taking the car because I was desperate and needed to meet friends a couple hours away… filled the tank!
Also– bought the partial insurance just in case something happened… first time for that as well!
The car stunk like cigarette smoke and sounded like a tank… actually reminded me of my friends old Vega from 30 years ago.
Got to my destination (without a blow-​out), parked the car. When I got in it the next day to continue my journey, it wouldn’t start!!!
Ended up calling emergency tow service and had it towed away… and they said they couldn’t bring me a replacement (I called the Hertz roadside assistance toll free #). WOW!!!
I ended up borrowing a friends car, and then had to ask same friend to take me back to the airport (4hr round trip for them).
Not only was this an expensive inconvenience, I feel as though Hertz standards for safety and patient satisfaction are at an all time low.
I have called the customer service line and they gave my information to Tigard supervisor, Leanne Hetrick. I am waiting for her to call me. I will insist on getting all of my money back and the $ 23 I spent to fill up the car.
AND…never, never, never will I rent from Hertz again.

I’ve been renting cars from this location for about a year. Every time has been an excellent time. Russ was especially helpful in helping us switch cars when we had been given an older model that didn’t have the amenities I was used to. Everything has been always handled quickly and professionally. I’ve never had a problem with cleanliness of any car I have rented. The rest of the employees that my husband and I have interacted with have always been pleasant. Haven’t seen a bad attitude which I have seen at other car rental places.

Just called to get a car rental, Russ I believe his name was closing in 15 minutes and was not to pleased I called so close to closing time. Store hours are until 6pm. I understand it’s Spring Break and they only have compact cars and I have to pay $ 100 a day I get that. I asked if pick up was included and he said if I lived within 2 miles which I do HOWEVER there is construction on Farmington and they would be unable to pick me up. I LIVE 1.9 miles away. You shouldn’t advertise the pick up if you are not going to follow thru. I still need a car but I am not going to hassle with Hertz especially with all the other bad reviews.

Horrible customer service experience. Patrick (manager) provided the worst customer service I’ve had in dealing with any business. The worst Hertz rental experience I’ve had, and by far the worst car rental experience I’ve had. My next car rental will be much easier, because I will now not need to check the rates for Hertz.

Nightmare service! Big liars. I had single day reservation and I picked vehicle on Saturday. I knew these guys are closed on Sunday and made sure with Hertz representative that I’ll not be charged from Sunday until they open office on Monday. But, they charged me until Monday. Fortunately, customer care representative helped me in refund. I would never suggest anyone to rent a car from this Hertz location.

The service here was appalling and we ultimately went elsewhere.
We entered to (we assume) the manager berating a customer over the phone for some question they had about the car and then we were insulted for missing out pick up the night before (our flight was late). Then we were not offered any help, informed that there were no more regular cars in the Portland metro area. We considered an SUV, but I couldn’t give my money to a company where the customer is treated so badly before they have even won our business, so we went elsewhere, and treated with basic respect.
My advice, don’t use Hertz, especially not at this location, unless you would like to be insulted.

This was my first time doing business with Hertz. I was thrilled because I had a much better rate and unlimited miles compared to Enterprise. Upon arriving to Hertz to pick up the vehicle there was already a customer being assisted so I had to wait about 10 minutes before beginning my rental process. Once I was being assisted I specifically advised the woman that I did NOT need any additional coverage because I already had full coverage as well as AAA. The vehicle that was given to me had a missing hubcap on the right rear passenger side. After I drove off I also noticed the smell of dog and mold inside the vehicle. Looking closely at the buttons on the stereo system, there was what looked like spilled coffee that had not been properly cleaned. During my use there was also a light that would turn on and off periodically. I looked into it and it turned out to be the temperature indicator.
When I returned the vehicle I was baffled to find out that apparently I had been charged additional coverage! I was truly confused, as I said, when I first arrived I had specifically requested that I not be sold any additional services. I don’t know about this company, but I know of several companies that respect you when you say that you do not want additional services. The same woman, who also is the manager of the location, came out to go over the charges. She said I agreed to the coverage when we went to inspect the vehicle and that it was a binding contract so there was nothing she could do. Never once did she go over the coverage that I «agreed» to add onto the vehicle. When I asked if there was anyone I could bring this concern to she simply shook her head and said, «No.». I find it hard to believe that this company does not have a customer service line or anything of that sort for me to call and talk to about my experience. I honestly felt this employee took advantage of me. After having to wait before beginning my rental process I was in a hurry and I’m sure she could sense that. She distracted me by talking about my trip and how fun it would be and slipped in this additional coverage that was added on. I have never been so disappointed in a company. I wish I could express how robbed I felt. I will never return to this location.

Worst company I have ever dealt with! I rented a car from these clowns about 2 months ago, because my car was getting fixed from getting rear ended. From the moment I walked in I got a bad feeling. My insurance covers rental car coverage but that doesn’t seem to matter to Hertz. They charged my credit card over $ 3000 in charges that no one there knows anything about. I’ve called 3 days in a row and keep getting the run around from several different employees. Not 1 phone call back, DO NOT rent a car from Hertz unless you want your credit card maxed out.

If I could give this a minus 5 stars I would. Reserved a car online to pick up Sat at 4:00 but when my husband and I took a $ 50 cab ride from PDX Amtrak to this location, they were closed… at NOON! They were also closed on Sunday. What kind of rental car business closes at noon on Sat and not open at all on Sunday? Strange to say that even the Hertz at Amtrak PDX was closed at 2:00 and the train gets in at 3:30…every day. We had to pay 2 days (pre-​paid online) for a car we couldn’t even pick up until Monday.
On Monday we told the rep at the desk (nice guy) what happend and he was sorry about it then «upgraded» us to a Hyundai Sonata (dirty car and the windshield wipers were bad — we are in Oregon where it rains…) We asked if we could drop the car off at the PDX Amtrak station at 1:00pm and he said they couldn’t accommodate this request (not really sure why) but he DID say that we could take it to the Pine street location downtown. Well, we did that and guess what? They were closed. Why? Because Portland had the Rose parade (big deal there in Portland) going on and that street was closed so they would open back up at 2:00pm when the street opened back up. We had to drive all the way back to Beaverton and drop off the car (running late for our return train at Portland Amtrak). I told the girl at the counter who was «helping» us return the car why the guy sent us there in the Pine street location if they were going to be closed and her answer was «well…there IS a parade going on you know». Like I knew this? I’m from California and don’t know about Portland goings on. She was a piece of work this girl. She snipped at me when I asked her how long it would take to complete the transaction (cabbie waiting) to return the car «it…will…take…1 MINUTE!». I was floored. Well, we spent $ 70 on a cab ride to Portland as close to the Amtrak station as he could possibly go as he said he was «scared» with all the road closures due to the parade and I asked him to let us out right in the middle of 6^th street. Yep, we walked 12 blocks to the Amtrak station with all our bags. THANKS HERTZ for the not so wonderful experience. You know… the last time I was in Portland I used Thrifty. Said I would use a reputable car company from now on. Bad assumption. I will never use Hertz again and I’m not one for writing bad reviews on businesses/​people. I’ve worked in Customer Care most of my career (Customer Care Director) and have never had this kind of experience.
Bottom line:
Reps are not knowledgeable and forthcoming with info and have no empathy.
Don’t care attitude
Cars are dirty (every car there was filthy inside and out)
I made a POOR CHOICE using Hertz…

Ohhhh no you didn’t SAM! I’d give this place a negative five stars but Unilocal won’t allow me to. These guys, especially Sam, are really really rude. I’m still peeved thinking about the experience I had with this location. Not only did they charge me an extra but they also charged more than what was advertised on the website. The guy told me I should have confirmed the numbers on the receipt when I signed it. First off, you guys knew I was in a hurry so when you gave me the receipts to sign you pointed at the line to sign and then took it away quickly after I signed them. Then you printed out the receipts and put them in the brochure folder. You also reminded me that you’ll be holding a deposit incase something happens and I’m held liable. Anyhow, these guys pulled a bait and switch on me. They even threw my receipt on the counter when I called them out on their bait and switch. DO NOT GO HERE! If you get Sam, run! He is a flamy Asian guy with a major attitude problem. Stay away! You have been warned!
TLNR: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRRRIBLE, BAIT AND SWITCHERS, FLAMY GUYS WITH ATTITUDE PROBLEMS!

My recent experience with Hertz should have ended more than a month ago, but I am still waiting on the resolution of a billing issue.
I had rented a car for a trip on holiday this past Christmas using my USAA discount. When I arrived for pick-​up, there was a medium sized line and only one staff answering both phones and attempting to also handle brick and mortar business. When I was helped, the employee was seemingly in a rush to get me out the door. She didn’t up-​sell me, but she managed to inquire if I wanted to pay to drop off my car with a non-​filled gas tank then disregarded my refusal of their premium service. The dent inspection was done with great haste despite it being near dusk, and they failed to check that the tank wasn’t full. When I came back in to remedy the gas status, I was bushed off that they’d «note it».
10 days into my rental, the check engine light came on. When I called Roadside Assistance to get some advice on how to proceed, I was met with 4 hours of being on hold. I was directed to have the local Hertz exchange my vehicle, but they didn’t have a car big enough for my family available due to it being a weekend. When I called back Roadside with a markedly improved wait of 30 mins, they conference called this branch that I received the car from. The conversation I encountered was the worst example of customer service I have ever received. I was told that I wasn’t responsible for the automotive problems, but was still responsible if I crashed the car. I was told the rental options I had at the local Hertz was sufficient and was simply being unreasonable. The Beaverton rep «couldn’t confirm nor deny the authority or ability to have a car delivered to us» and the Corporate rep simply refused to let me speak to a manager. I was told to accept what I was offered, or hope that a suitable car was returned during the week. I eventually was able to have a car delivered to the local Hertz due to the manager at the local Hertz.
Once back in Oregon, I came back into the Beaverton Hertz to return my vehicle. I was able to speak with the manager and they authorized for 2 days of my rental to be credited back. I was given a new receipt with the credit clearly marked. A few days later, I was charged at the full price. When I called back again, I was met with a new manager for the branch. I again explained my situation, and they took a few days to re-​credit me back an additional third day off my rental. Overall an awful experience with Corporate Hertz, and spotty service with two branches, three managers, and two cars.

I’ve been renting with Hertz all over the U.S. for over ten years. This location consistently has the worst customer service of any location I’ve ever worked worked with. The manager is rude, and while I support companies hiring through the United Way, I think making special needs employees answer phones and deal with impatient customers at the counter is just cruel. The four people here now have keys, but can’t seem to find a car, but that did not stop them from trying to sell us insurance on an imaginary vehicle. Being here before I came by and called to verify they could keep my reservation. When I came by in person I was told to call later. When I called, after being put on hold for 15 minutes twice locating a car was still a challenge. They’ve dispatched two fellers to hunt down a car. I arrived at four, as that was the time on my reservation, it’s now 4:45 and rumor has it they’ve found a car and will be bringing it by any time now… I could understand this level of incompetence if I tried to rent a car from Starbucks, this being Hertz I mistakingly assumed they could rent cars. I cringe every time I consider renting here, If possible rent anywhere else…

So went in to go get a rental. First off the first lady was really rude. Over charged account. So card denied. She tries saying that we were basically screwed for 24 hours cause of her mistake cause card was declined. She did not want to get her manager. Finally she got her and the manager got everything squared away. This was the worst non Profesional experience I have ever had. If it was not for the manager we would be screwed. Not happy :(

I want to give the Farmington Road location five stars, but thanks to Hertz, I can only leave four.
I had reserved a car through the Crowne Plaza location in Downtown Portland. They not only did not have a car for me (on the day of my rental), but the clerk on duty showed little interest in solving the problem. Hertz had a shortage of rental cars in Portland. So, in desperation, I called the Farmington Road location. I’m glad I did!
I spoke to Sarah and Leanne. Not only were they genuinely concerned with my issue, they tried everything in their power to find a car for me. They were going to honor the rate originally quoted. They were going to try a route a car to their office for me. In the end, their attempts were unsuccessful, and I had to cancel a week-​long vacation. However, they were the only bright spot on a disappointing day.
Sarah and Leanne went above and beyond to help me. They exemplify quality, top-​notch, customer service. It’s worthy of six stars. If I had to rent from Hertz in Portland again (which I never will after this mess), I would only do business with the Farmington Road location.

I made reservations online to rent a car while mine was scheduled to be in the shop. When I called to confirm my request for pick-​up from the mechanic’s I was told that it may not be possible as they had a lot of other requests, even though I had placed mine in advance online. Initially, this caused a huge stress for me as it was the day of and I’d have to scramble to figure something else out. I was called back shortly after with an apology since the employee-​in-​training was still learning the ropes.
Fast forward and pick-​up works out fine. At the Hertz office, things seemed to be a bit in chaos. The staff seemed overwhelmed by customer requests and phone calls and the employee went through the annoying schpeal of trying to upsell me things that I already rejected online. When my rental pulled up they still needed to clean it, which they did right in front of me… not the most professional and the car probably needed a wash too, but I was just ready to leave and be done with it all.
The returning of the rental car was a little bit better of an experience, less chaotic and more professional. I think the employees are friendly and mean well, but seems like a stressful work environment. I still think I got the best rental car deal compared to other places in the area, but it’s questionable if it’s worth it.

I can’t give lower than three stars if I’ve been willing to return. I can’t give more than three stars, though, if the cars are going to be that dirty.
Basically, I would never rent from them if I was flying into town, but since this place is local and I can just take the car home and clean it, it typically works for me.
I was practically interrogated when I picked up the car («What are you doing?» «Where are you going?» «What do you do for work?» etc.), but it was a weird way of trying to be nice, I think, and not actually trying to gather information. When I returned the car, one of them stood outside my window flailing around. .. trying to be funny, I think; but this is a business, not high school.

However, Hertz does not staff their locations appropriately to meet this demand. I booked a car to be picked up on a Monday morning at 7:30 am but there’s nobody available to pick me up from home. Only when I persisted that this is an advertised feature did the staff member state that he would reimburse for cab fare if I brought a receipt (as if he was doing me a favor). Not sure if Hertz has lost its zeal for customer service. and if this is their treatment for President circle members… well, Avis/​Enterprise — here I come.

From now on Hertz is my NUMBER ONE choice when I have to rent a car. Thank you ladies for being so kind and helpful. and for making my trip home so wonderful. Happy 2013!
