I understand that the City is trying to bring more business and fun to this area, which it needs. Beaverton doesn’t have a city square per se, and this area could be much more vibrant if more activities are planned. Why hasn’t the Round or the City partnered up with local groups to do more than just City-produced activities here? It just seems like a waste of a nice little space.

Frank’s review of The Round is about right. There are some pleasant restaurants here and the City of Beaverton is moving City Hall. Unilocal has this as a shopping center. I’d say that is the wrong description but someday when buildings truly«round» the MAX it will be great. Too bad the red line doesn’t go one more stop. This is the easiest MAX station for reaching Cedar Hills Crossing.

«This town is coming like a ghost town All the clubs have been closed town This place is coming like a ghost town Bands won’t play no more» The vintage ska tune«Ghost Town» by the Specials is what pops into my head whenever I pass through The Round these days. The place likely held such promise when the economy was better. It’s one of those multi-use developments – office space, shops and condos all rolled into one, singular, park-like area. I like the concept. The MAX stops right in the middle of The Round, providing easy transportation to City Center, Hillsboro or Gresham. Sadly, most of the spaces appear to be empty and the only hub of activity is the 24 Hour Fitness. There are big«For Lease» signs hanging from the office buildings and there’s a vacant lot where the construction of another was clearly halted abruptly. I work in the area and several of my co-workers have had their cars burglarized in the parking lot. Meth heads are constantly staggering around on the MAX platform. It’s kind of sad to see someone’s big idea wither away. Perhaps when things are booming again, this place will be full of tenants and happy times.

And who says the Burbs ain’t cool!!! I just discovered a little slice of hip, happenin’ city life right outside of Portland at The Round in Beaverton. If you are not familiar with The Round, it is a complex of condos and restaurants surrounding the Max tracks. As dreary as this might sound, you will be so impressed with this little hideaway that you might be tempted to move to the Burbs(okay, maybe not MOVE to the burbs, but you might visit them a wee bit more). The Round features some of the best restaurant names in Portland(Caffe Mingo, Typhoon, Mio Sushi) all with stunning décor and open-air dining that looks out over a cute little park that features concerts and festivities during the summer. If you are looking for a change of pace or a great halfway point to meet up with friends who live outside of this city, The Round is the perfect spot to check out by Max or by car.
