Recently a friend of mine and I took a little bbq tour of the CSRA. The first stop was Freeman’s. I wasn’t even sure this place existed, or was still in operation, as I couldn’t find anything on Unilocal. We rolled into a small building on the side of the road. We went inside to find a very friendly gentleman who made our plates for us. Since we were going to be trying a whole bunch of BBQ that day, we only got a half pound of bbq to share between us. The bbq was, in a word, GREAT. It was smoky, it was tasty, and most important for me, it wasn’t dry and mealy. I thought the moisture level was perfect, my friend thought it might have been a bit too moist, but both of us nevertheless loved it. The place didn’t have airconditioning, but it did have a TV in the corner, and a friendly proprietor, so if you are in Augusta and want to try some good BBQ, go to Freeman’s!
