Ehhh… definitely not anywhere near the best-tasting Chinese food I’ve had, but it is, like others say, convenient. I was looking to quickly order some take-out, but upon calling Wong Garden(on a Thursday night), I was told that the wait could be 45 minutes to an hour. WHAT?! Take-out is definitely NOT supposed to be a long, drawn out ordeal. Other Chinese restaurants say«give me 15 minutes.» I ordered the dinner combo #1: egg roll, boneless spareribs, beef teriyaki, and pork fried rice($ 8). I waited the 45 minutes, walked to Wong Garden, and waited in the lobby/bar for a server, a greeter, someone. I saw several to-go orders sitting on the counter, and hoped that mine wasn’t among them, getting cold. From what I saw of the interior, the restaurant looks a lot like an 80s Days Inn continental breakfast area. No joke. Same tables, same chairs, same odd watercolor-esque paintings of cranes flying over water. They were understaffed, with one waitress running about from table to table, taking orders and defying the unending rings of the telephone, bussing tables, and dropping off plates. Another waitress/bartender/to-go hostess finally came by, helped another customer, and then I paid for my meal without any further issue. My order, by the way, was one of the ones that had been sitting on the bar top for who-knows how long. Fast forward to actually eating the food: –the beef teriyaki was good(you get two strips skewered on sticks, I’d prefer more than this) –the egg roll was«OK», it had this weird ground red pork(like the kind from the pork fried rice, but crumbly, it didn’t add any taste whatsoever) –the pork fried rice was«OK» and actually did fine being reheated the next day –the boneless spareribs were pretty tasty right out of the to-go box; good flavor, texture. Reheating them was not an option, they turned into jerky :( Would I eat here again? maybe, in a pinch. The beef teriyaki was tasty enough to abate a Chinese-food emergency on an as-needed basis. I wouldn’t recommend this for a date or a «nice» dinner, and their 45 minute wait time for to-go is just absurd.

Quick cheap and convenient Wong Garden is a smallish Chinese type of restaurant that is a whole lot like a bunch of other smallish Chinese restaurants. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The restaurant was clean and the menu exactly what you would expect from a place like this. All the classic Asian American stuff without much in the way of surprises. The service was quick and pleasant without being intrusive and the food arrived surprisingly quickly after we ordered. The food was all good and tasted fresh and flavorful. The best part was that the veggies were all very crisp and not over cooked into mush. Certainly not gourmet Asian food but it is inexpensive and quick. A cool place to get some food in you without a lot of fuss or waiting around.

I would not recommend any one go here. The only good thing about this place is they are accommodating to vegetarians. My boyfriend and I went here to get dinner and I got the Mu Shu Vegetable and he had the Vegetable Egg Foo Young. The Egg Foo Young is usually made with an animal based gravy but they made it with a vegetable based one for him. My dish was not bad, not the best I have ever had either but my boyfriend had some issues with his. My boyfriend got very sick the next day with lets just say… lots of bathroom issues. I am pretty sure the eggs were bad because I did not have any of my food. Needless to say we will not be going back there. If you want good Chinese food that won’t make you sick don’t go here. I recommend either going right up the street to Min Fen Kitchen. Much better food and better vegetarian options too.

My boys and I were so hungry and since we had an hour ride back home we figure we give it a try. The place is small and for a minute we thought it was closed as all windows had the blinds closed, but they were open. Small place, staff is friendly. It was 6 pm and the place was packed. Was told to try the egg rolls and I was pleasantly surprised as they were good!

I travel almost an hour to get there and its well worth it. The food portions are large, hot, and tasty. Quick service great prices.

Eating here was a mistake. All the chicken is flavorless, the noodles are bland, I don’t see why anyone would eat here with Minfen Kitchen just up the road, or Panda East in Amherst.

Easily the worst chinese food I’ve ever had, Wong Garden is a fine example of just how Belchertown citizens will accept anything. No no, don’t drive ten minutes down the road to Amherst, go for microwave-quality slop. Hey, it’s closer, right? Any chain sit-down restaurant would clean up in Belchertown. Maybe the owners of Wong Garden, O’Brien’s and Hawleys rule over the town council and deny all the Chili’s and Applebees permits that come flying in. If it’s not some grotesque old boy network like that, I have no idea what’s going on. Anyway. The food is horrid. I’m sitting down right now to some«general» chicken. I asked for General Tso’s Chicken, which is a pretty standard chinese dish. There’s a lot of variance to be found, but these are deep-fried flat slabs of chicken meat swimming in sugary orange sauce. Not a hint of savory flavor to be found. I’ve had their chicken and cashews, too. Entirely bland ingredients in an entirely bland(i.e. not brown) white sauce. It’s like eating food coated in heated up dishwater. You’ll find better chinese at one of those mega-buffet joints where you might as well be eating out of a trough. Shame on you, Belchertown. You’re TENMINUTES from Panda East.

I don’t understand the glowing reviews. I’ve had microwave Chinese food that rates higher then this joint. Any restaurant that uses canned mushrooms has equally unsatisfying food. The relationship is mutually exclusive.

After reading some glowing reviews, we decided to give Wong Garden a try. It’s conveniently located in a small strip plaza with abundant parking, which makes for easy in/out on a no-cook weeknight, and the interior looked clean and tidy and dotted with happy diners. Plus it has a pretty extensive menu… which I will post photos of shortly to help anyone who may be searching for it online as we were. After no success finding Wong Garden’s menu online(heads up restaurant managers, this is a small thing that goes a long way towards kicking off a good take-out experience! Even a static facebook page with the necessary info uploaded would suffice), we eventually unearthed an ancient copy in the bottom of our menu drawer which we used to place our order. And boy, did we order! We wanted to try a variety of things and were happy to have leftovers, but unfortunately the food just wasn’t good and now I’m faced with having to figure out how to doctor up a massive quantity of drab, mushy stuff. Awesome. We decided on kung pao chicken, pork chow mein, beef with vegetables, egg rolls, fried dumplings and the much lauded crab rangoons. The kung pao was like no kung pao I’ve ever seen. My suspicions were raised as soon as I opened the box and saw heavily battered and deep fried chicken. Odd, but I’m not a purist and am totally open to different places doing things differently. In fact, some of my favorite food moments have been happy mistakes, so even though I had no intention of ordering a battered, fried chicken dish, I pressed on! Sadly, this traditionally spicy dish was not only lacking in spice, it was lacking in any kind of flavor whatsoever. And I don’t mean that it had a nice, mild vegetable flavor… because even that would have been alright and maybe another happy accident… but no, it was devoid of all flavor, period. Not sure how that’s even possible, but there it is! The chow mein was made with ground? pork and was also totally flavorless. That dish is typically quite mild, but still with a particular«roundness»…hard to describe, but I guess you’ll know it when it’s not there :) I thought the beef dish was decent, the best of the three, but everyone else thought it was bland, mushy, and just not good. Of the appetizer assortment, the crab rangoons were ok… large, well-prepared, and with more filling than I’ve noticed in the past… but I’ve never been a big fan of them and definitely wouldn’t go out of my way or travel any distance for what is essentially deep fried, dough-wrapped cream cheese with strong onion notes. The egg rolls were also huge, but they were soaked with grease and I didn’t like the flavor of the filling(less veggie and lots of those red ground pork bits… and I think quite a bit of white pepper?). Boyfriend loved them. Dumplings were similarly jumbo, but their size was mostly due to an abundance of dough and there wasn’t enough flavor in the dipping sauce to rescue the bland filling. I guess for Belchertown options, we’ll be sticking with our newly-discovered Minfen Kitchen, which is right up the road from Wong Garden… and we found it to be much more flavorful and fresh, as well as slightly less expensive.

Wong Garden has very unimpressive food. Outside of staples like scallion pancakes and crab rangoon, the only consistently good thing that I have had it the lobster fried rice. I would avoid the vegetable fried rice. It just have huge pieces of bell pepper and water chestnuts and very little flavor. The service is often very slow and the restaurant could use modernizing and brightening.

The twinkle in the eye of the half-drunk«bartender» on his second mai tai of the lunch«rush». The melodic trickling of fishless aquariums. The advertisements for Oster Man Gas on the sauce-stained placemats. The flickering cigarette-yellow light that ensures you never know whether it’s open or closed. The shuffling waiters who, rapturously, cannot articulate the difference between«special» «amazing» and simply«general» chicken. Be prepared to be transported to a whole new world of authentic Chinese Belchertown cuisine, where you simply cannot make a «wong» decision. From the greasy cafeteria plates to the echoing emptiness at a 5:00 dinner hour, Wong is as good as route 202 gets when it comes to gloriously mediocre fried Chinese-ish food. Don’t ask questions. Have a couple of Navy Grogs and miraculously crispy Scallion Pancakes. Seek the truth within. Wong Garden, no relation to Debbie down the street(that bitch!), is a truly mystical dining experience. Perhaps even spiritually transcendent. It is rumored that Emily Dickinson once tried the boneless spareribs. She killed herself because there was nothing left on this earth worth experiencing afterwards. Make the Wong choice. You’ll never be the same.

It’s decent Chinese food, better than most in Amherst, but nothing that great. The prices are pretty cheap and they’ll make you some strong island drinks. The service is fast and very friendly. And they have combination plates, which is always a plus at Chinese places. Unfortunately, the food is kind of subpar. The general’s chicken is too sweet and not spicy enough, the boneless spareribs are good, but need a little more seasoning, and the pork fried rice is bland. The crab rangoons are excellent, though. And it is better than most Chinese places in the area, and cheaper than Panda East, so it certainly isn’t a bad option given what surrounds it.

One of the best Chinese restaurants ever. The won ton soup is hearty and satisfying. The crab rangoon is perfect. The generals chicken is delicious and just a little sweet. Love this place.
