Excellent cuban restaurant and believe me if I tell you it’s because I know how taste the food of my country. Very good service. I absolutely recommend it.

Being from South Florida, I was very excited to try them out. The food was overpowering with garlic. Don’t get me wrong I love garlic, but this was too much. I was also super stoked about trying the croquettes. There was a Cuban bakery around the corner in Homestead that my sister’s and I would walk to for fresh croquettes. Sadly these were very salty. Other than being to salty they were okay. Now, the empanadas, stuffed potatoes, tamales and plantains were excellent. The empanadas came with a hot dipping sauce. My husband loved it. It was a little to spicy for me. Oh, and their sangria is out of this world! We will give it another shot and hopefully they were just having an off day.

This is a great place to introduce friends to authentic Cuban fare! I have to admit that I have yet to branch away from their Ropa Vieja — because it is THATGOOD! The beans and rice and plantains are the perfect compliment! Try it out!

First time visit, this place is a hidden gem. I only tryed two dishes(garlic sauteed calamari, ropavieja shredded beef slow cooked in wine sause), and the beef was fantastic not a fan of calamari, but it did have a good seasoning flavor. I will be back!!! Only gave 4 starts because i only tryed two items but service was fast, and frendly.

After watching the movie Chef, I’ve been dying to try a Cuban Sandwich. There are different sandwiches on the menu, but I opted for the original for my first try — El Cubano. To be honest, I think it’s a little bit overpriced. $ 8 for ham, swiss cheese and pork sandwich in French bun. I mean, I know I can’t really compare a Vietnamese sandwich(banh mi) to a Cuban sandwich, but they sure do pack a banh mi with overflowing bbq grilled pork, pickled carrots, and cucumbers for $ 2.50-$ 3.00. My El Cubano did not come close to overflowing. As for taste, it was OK. I also added Chicharittas(fried banana chips) to my order for $ 2. The portion I got wasn’t worth the $ 2. The Chef movie totally overhyped my craving for a cuban sandwich. LOL Perhaps I should go elsewhere…

Been going here for a while now. Service is not their strong point. On this afternoon — my wife and kids decide to go here. We walk in and there is only one person to wait on patrons. The place already has a few folks waiting for service and everyone was looking at each other in disbelief. We continue to wait and then just seat ourselves. Then the after a 30 minute wait we are told there is no fish. Maybe something that could have been mentioned where we were waiting forever for water. Now I understand that lack of planing by the manager resulted in this and that it was not the server’s fault. But not mentioning that you do not have any fish and just sandwiches is not right. We decide to leave — as it looked like it would take forever for food to arrive — and then the server says you have to pay for the one soda we got!!! Now if I owned a restaurant and did not have the staff, food and time to help a client — would I really charge the client $ 2.50 for a soda that came in a glass worth … maybe 2 cents. I like the food — but they can forget about my business.

Eating that delicious Cuban sandwiches brings back memories of Miami, that crispy bread with the salty savor meat, sooooooooo cute, can’t wait to come back, also ordered the Ropa with fried yuca, white rice and beans, quite good, The Mamey shake tasted kind of funky and pretty price for 4.25 It’s in somewhat of a sketchy area so lock all your car doors and keep expensive items out of sight

I have been here more times than I can remember. The food and the service are the reasons for returning again and again. Nothing necessarily fancy but just tasty food. Have brought family, friends and business associates here and have not been disappointed.

I have been wanting to Come to this place. I always eat Cuban food when I am in Florida. So decided to try a place here in Houston. I came in wanting a Cuban sandwich but decided to go outside my box and try a sampler plate. The meal was huge and was big enough to feed two people. Tons of meat !!! I got the shredded beef with wine sauce, fried pork, and shredded beef with garlic sauce. They do not hold back on the garlic. I will be vampire free for a while that’s for sure. Overall I was pleased with the meal and would comeback. I think next time I want to try the empanadas.

This place has as close as authentic Cuban cuisine as you can get in town. The food was really good. I recommend trying El Cubano or La Rumba. The plantanes are really good. Service was quick and the servers were nice and helpful. The space is small but if you get here on a weekday you should be fine. Parking was not an issue. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Brought my neighbors here recently. Both of our homes were flooded during Memorial Day and we have no access to our kitchens. Anyway, there are places that make you miss your stove — even if you are not an avid cook. This is not one of those places, we come often for flavorful food and yummy sangrias. They did not disappoint. Extra points for their creamy(not eggy) flan and Cuban coffee. Tim would give it 5 stars due to: parking, cleanliness and no wait times. He can create his own Unilocal account tho!

Having driven to this side of town to eat Korean and having been told we’d not be able to be served, we needed to find another place to eat. This cuban joint happened to be on the same street(a few block down the road heading back towards the center of town). We thought to ourselves«why not give it a try?» I tell you why… this is probably the furthest from Cuban cuisine i ever did try. No spices, super bland and dry. Stale chips with the salsa. And, NOT cheap at all. Even the cocktails were watered down. Is this what appeals to everyone’s tastebuds so much(every other review i read of this place raves about this place)? I wouldn’t recommend at all.

I have been coming here for the past 20 years. The food is always good and the staff is on point! I always have their picadillo. On this visit, my husband and I both had sandwiches, they were equally as good. You can’t go wrong with this place or the food.

Have visited this restaurant on two separate occasions, both during special days; Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. The latter was the most recent visit this year. I will not be too hard on the review simply because on this day for all restaurants there will be a wait if you did not arrange reservations which we had not. Total time wait time for our party of six was 30 minutes. The entrance waiting area is very small and it was jammed with people since it was raining outside. There were tables available inside and outside but we requested indoor seating. I believe the wait took as long as it did because they appeared to be short staffed. Our hostess looked young and did not seem to juggle her tasks efficiently or move fast enough. Once we were seated it did not take long before the waitress took our drink order and she came back to check on us until we were ready to order. I had the Cuban Sandwich with Tostones and was very pleased. My family was also satisfied with their selections and we were given good customer service by her. Rating is based on the hostess and the person in charged that day because they should’ve handled the customers in a better manner during wait time. While my party and I were dining there were more people waiting and receiving the same service we did which was not being acknowledged, attended to nor given an update on how much longer it would take. Will return but will avoid during special occasions from now on.

I am always a big fan of the independent establishments. And when the food is delicious it is like uncovering a gem. I am not a Cuban cuisine expert but I love what I have found at this place. Service is slow sometimes but it is worth the wait. They have a really nice patio. We had the beef empanadas, plantain chips with garlic sauce(I could eat the sauce by the spoonfuls), pork and plantains sandwich and a sample plate. All very tasty. This is one of my go to places.

There was a time when this place was great– which is why, I suggested this restaurant for a dinner date. Boy, was I embarrassed!!! Their Cuban sandwiches are still pretty good, but the rest of the food, in my last experience was served COLD(fru fru)! Which is particularly terrible if you have ever had cold fried plantain. In one hour we did not see our entrees! They lost our ticket, didn’t give us refills and when they paged the manager, he really didn’t care. He was having a nice conversation with another customer and showing her pictures on the phone– meanwhile, the hostess kept paging him to our table, and he kept ignoring her If I could give it zero stars, I would.

BEST Cuban food in Texas. Born and raised in Miami, I drive all the way from San Antonio to come here and enjoy the authenticity of this amazing food. There is other places in San Antonio and Austin but nothing can even be put on the same level as café piquet. La comida es lo maximo asere!!!

Not exactly Miami, which is why the 4 stars. Had Vaca Frita and Palomilla and while a little bland the staff makes up for that. When and if they get their liquor license mojitos would be a nice touch. Also had Materva which was really refreshing. Do visit and support them. The flan, by the way, out of bounds!

I got the appetizer samplers and La Rumba entrée samplers. Both were good portions because me and my two friends were full:) I enjoyed the food and thought it was decent. As for the environment, it’s laid back and family oriented. I can’t wait for it to be a little colder because the patio seating is really pretty. Overall, I would like to go back and the other items on the menu:)
