Belle Chasse Academy

My son is in his second and last year here. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences. The teachers each year have been so willing to work with me and the special education coordinator is spectacular. I have never dealt with principal, Jane Dye, but the assistant principal, Mr. Smith is very involved and friendly with the students and parents. The public schools in the parish have a great reputation, but this is an excellent option for military families and their children. You have staff and other families who understand the life of a military child.
Some things to keep in mind:
If you live off base, you will most likely have to take and pick up your child (ren). Bussing is limited so check to see if you qualify.
My experience is that locals sometimes don’t look kindly on our school. I think they feel we’re snubbing them. So if you live in town, consider checking out the public schools as well.
The school is k-​8. If you have a middle schooler, this experience is a little different from regular middle school. For us it was a better situation for my son. However, I am a little concerned about his shift from this environment that can often be a little like elementary school, to high school. Also, I am concerned about him moving to the public high school from here and having to deal with that local resentment I mentioned.
This is a charter school so you may want to do some research if you are unfamiliar with those.

My kids love this school. The teachers are all really professional, but more importantly love the kids. All of the staff to include bus drivers and monitors, office staff, and cafeteria workers all know our kids names and truely love them. That goes a long way. Parents tend to be a bit more involved here and there are more clubs and activities than any kid can join — sports, scouts, academic clubs for K-​8. The school is fairly new and in excellent condition. I have no doubt my kids are safe here.
Academically, they teach at a grade level or two above state and national standards. Starting in kindergarden, students break out math and reading groups to learn at their grade level or a more advanced one if appropriate.
