Steaks were overdone and cold, service was nonexistent, flies were present, and the cheesecake had mold on it. This place is overpriced with bad food and service.

If you’re looking for good service, don’t come here. You’re typically ignored for a while if regulars are there. Beer is cool but nowhere near as cold as it should be. The place is dirty and the pool tables are abused. Save your time and money.

Save your money and time .This place has fell flat on its face from the past years. dirty, incompetent staff, and mediocre food, dirty tap system and draft beer is not cold. went in last week seen some guy walking out drinking a bottle of beer. someone should tell the bar maid that is illegal. Iam told it is under new management as of sometime in may or june. seems like things have went down hill even more with the new management take over. Sweeney s original owners .are rolling over in there graves I am sure.

I don’t go out much but when I do I expect a good experience. The outside looked good and I expected the same from the inside, which also looked good… until I was seated and that should have tipped me off. The décor was all Joe Hardy which, sadly, is a little too 1990’s these days. The lights were on super bright, the faces of Joe and his extended family smiled on my from every wall and the fabrics on the booths and bolsters was straight coffee shop. Half the menu seemed to be blacked out. There wasn’t much ambience, shall we say, when there really could have been. Despite this, my fiancé got the Devils Fire Pasta and I got the 8oz Sirloin. We were one of two parties in the whole Ed Hardy dining room. I had first started to get a burger but it was my birthday and we had an Enjoy Book coupon for an entrée so against my better judgment I got the steak even though half the description was blacked out. I should have been very wary. As sides I got Cole slaw and house chips. Let me also say I prefer cooking at home most times to eating out since I can control the quality of my food and how it’s prepared. If I do go out I am quite choosy and demanding. First, the Devils Fire. My fiancé liked it but when I tasted it, it tasted like angel hair with a velveeta/salsa sauce. I can’t prove it but if you’ve ever made that particular dip, that’s exactly what it tasted like. It had vegetables mixed in and a chicken breast sliced on top. It came with a salad served with bottled French dressing on the side. The Cole slaw was out of a tub but for what it was it was a huge portion and I admit, I was hungry. I liked it. Then the steak showed up. I can’t quite put my finger on what was wrong. It looked pretty enough. Good grill marks. It looked like a medium doneness inside. But it was dry and gritty when I bit into it. It had no flavor of its own and definitely wasn’t seasoned before it was cooked. There was no melt in your mouth quality whatsoever. I’m not sure if it had been cooked hours before and then reheated in a microwave or what was done to it but something was very wrong with it and the waitress very wisely noticed I had issues with it. She took it off of our bill while telling me how wonderful their steaks usually were and how embarrassed she was. I did ask if it was frozen and she told me it wasn’t. Fair enough. I was impressed at how quickly she noticed the problem and then did the right thing although I did notice how there wasn’t an offer to cook me another which made me wonder if this was a more systemic problem with the meat since she had already told us that the prime rib hadn’t arrived that day. I wonder if the meat was old and running out at the end of the week too?(this was Thursday and prime rib was only served as an entrée on Friday and Saturday — sandwiches everyday which was why she mentioned it since they weren’t available.) In any event while the service was attentive and always checking to see that we were well stocked and had what we needed, in my opinion the food was completely uninspired, overpriced and well, to really call it what it was, just plain awful. Maybe they do better with pub food like burgers and wings but based on this visit, I don’t think I’d take the risk since these items were too overpriced to really waste my money on the risk. If they have a head chef, they need to really reconsider their menu and recipes and come up with some fresh inspiration, new menu offerings and get rid of the 90s décor. They have an excellent building with a lot going for them and with a great chef, a menu filed with fresh, new offerings focused on steakhouse fare and the quality of the staff they have, I think they could do very well.

Sorry to Inconvenience you by coming to your restaurant. While we were waiting the 20 minutes for a bill we were literally looking around for hidden cameras because this experience was THAT ridiculous. We stopped through, trying something new. We felt so unwanted because we weren’t regulars who were obviously the priority. We waited 45 minutes for a cold sandwich and pizza with NO cheese. Literally, no cheese aon the pizza. Wow. What a bar rescue waiting to happen.

Nice place for a drink. I liked it a lot but the fall off is the patrons they draw in, mostly drug addicts. I was asked if I had a stamp bag(heroin) it was very disturbing. If you can get past the druggies you’ll have a good time.

Apparently this restaurant has been renamed«Sweeney’s Steakhouse». Heeding the warnings about the service at the bar, we headed straight to the dining area. Our server, Margie, was friendly and competent. The food was very good to excellent. My husband had the Delmonico steak, which we knew was not the tenderest cut of beef, but it was cooked properly, seasoned well, and very flavorful. I had the Dragon’s Fire pasta with shrimp, which was amazing. The baked potato soup was hot, delicious, and so thick you could have eaten it with a fork. The burgundy mushrooms were also tasty. Although not cheap, our tab was surprisingly modest for a steakhouse. We will be going there again!

I used to visit this bar every couple weeks, but after my last visit I won’t be back anytime soon. At the end of the night I closed out my tab & left the bartender a cash tip, but zero on my card. The next day my bank account read that they added $ 8 to my total. I called & spoke with who I understood to be the manager & he said they would call me back within a half hour yet I never received a call back.

Monday, April 21 was about 75 degrees outside. We asked the waitress if we could eat outside. The answer was«no». Temp inside was at least 80 degrees — she said that’s the way it is and couldn’t do anything about it. WE quietly left and will probably never return, even tho our daughter lives less than a mile from there. Goodbye!!!

Food is always good but the service on the bar side is always bad. If you are going here sit in the dining room. They also removed my favorite meal from the menu and I wish they would bring it back(butternut squash ravioli)

My husband and I used to come here pretty frequently years ago, but when the food started to go downhill(rapidly), we stopped. We heard it was under different management, had a new chef and was remodeled so we went there tonight. The remodel is a huge success. Very pretty — loved the lighting above the booths — which were comfortable, by the way! It took a while longer than I expected for our food, but well worth the wait. Both my husband and I were very pleased with our selections and the price was comparable to other restaurants in this genre. We can’t wait to go back and try something different! Give it a second chance if you were here years ago.

Terrible food. I ordered a turkey burger and it was clearly not fresh. It had the texture of rubber. The crab mac n cheese was traditional mac n cheese with velveeta with SOME crap sprinkled on top. The french fries were completely soaked in greese and limp. I waited about 10 min to be seated… and I was 1 of 3 people in the whole place! The décor is horrible. A bunch of ill-placed photots of Joe Hardy and his family/friends. Joe Hardy should either shut this place down or totally reconsider the menu, décor and staff. The staff was kind, but very slow!

One of the worst experiences at a bar. Ever. To the best of my knowledge, the Sweeney’s do not own this place anymore and I’m sad to see their name attached to it. JB and I were in the area and stopped in for a few drinks, I used to live right up the hill from Sweeney’s so I’ve been there before. I always thought it was«Meh», nothing special but tolerable… until that night. We were 2 of 4 people in the bar until 3 more came in. They were loud, obnoxious and rude and started spewing racial epithets and inappropriate comments. The bar tender just shook her head and laughed. I refuse to patronize an establishment that will put up with type of behavior.

Sweeney’s is a typical bar/saloon/reatsuarant in Rostraver, PA. The menu is loaded with the typical burgers, pasta, pizza, etc. What isn’t typical is the time you need to allow yourself for a meal there. I know in the regular world it takes only 10 minutes or so to make a cheeseburger. But this is not the regular world. There is something magical here. Something different, because it takes the Sweeney’s staff a good 45 minutes to create their special, extra dry and crusty burgers. Want to pay for your meal? Well, sir, please be patient. It may take up to 20 minutes to have your check picked up, change made or credit card processed, and returned to you. Again, this is part of the Sweeney’s magic. The bar is pretty nice. I hope your not thirsty, though. The bar service is just as special.
