I’ll admit being skeptical about Gamez Unleashed when I first saw the store. After all, GameStop is pretty much the gold standard of gaming stores, and a lot of the smaller, more local stores I’ve seen are grimy, unfriendly, and full of junk. I have no particular love for GameStop(being a former manager of a store, I’m well aware of its flaws!), but GameStop does a good job of carrying things gamers want. Walking inside, however, I was stunned to find that Gamez Unleashed is actually SUPERIOR to GameStop. It’s really clear that a lot of thought went into the design and layout of the store. On one wall, there are several monitors set up so that you can test-drive games in the store or compete in one of the many tournaments the store holds. The inventory is really well-selected, and it seems like they’re trying to carry games that are actually worth owning. A lot of game stores have giant bargain bins filled with old sports titles and junky used games with ugly, generic cover art. Gamez Unleashed only has a handful of those titles, and you get an automatic discount on games that don’t have their cover art. I like that. If you go to GameStop and they don’t have a title, they can’t order it in for you. Gamez Unleashed is a lot more helpful about getting items, and I’ve been told they’ll even order in used games or accessories if you are willing to pay the shipping on them. That’s really cool, particularly if you’re looking for older titles that are out of print and you don’t want to deal with sites like eBay or Amazon. Speaking of older titles, it’s nice to see a store that carries Playstation One, SNES, Sega Genesis and NES cartridges and systems. Those are getting harder and harder to find in retail stores. Gamez Unleashed does buy and sell used games. They also have a «Z» card that give you discounts and bonuses. The staff is awesome, too! Definitely check this store out. It’s where I’ll be making all MY future game-related purchases.
