Simple enough, I had a high value item I didn’t want left on the steps. I have Prime so the item was there within 2 days, I went down and typed the little code in and bam a door opens and my package was there. Not much to review here, simple to use, my grandma could figure it out, and I got my package.

Beware 3 day rule! It seemed simple enough, send your package to a locker and avoid UPS. Unfortunately, Amazon has a hidden 3 day rule. If you don’t pick up your package in 3 days, back it goes. What if you don’t know when it gets delivered? What if you get called away on an emergency? What if their email gets lost in oceans of spam and marketing? Your package goes back and they WON’T re-send it to you again. They WON’T refund your money until they get the package back. This is the worst, never again

As Amazon is headquartered in Seattle, the area serves as a testing ground for new ideas of this company. One idea that has been running for about a year or so are is their Amazon Locker program. This allows you to retrieve packages that you buy from Amazon at numerous public locations. For urban city dwellers living in apartments in which receiving large packages is difficult or not possible, this is a good thing. The Bellevue Amazon Locker is located in the Rite Aid in Downtown Bellevue. Bellevue is a mix of houses and condos, but Downtown Bellevue are full of highrises so I think this is a good spot. I live in a house and can receive packages at the front door, but I wanted to test out this program so I had a package delivered to this Amazon Locker. This program is reminiscent of the online ordering system that Borders offered in which you can have purchases you make online delivered to a local store for pickup. The only differences are that the pickup process uses a computer automated system and you need to spend $ 25 to get Super Save Shipping unless you have Amazon Prime. Whereas Borders had free shipping with no minimum purchase. Just like a regular purchase, there is a tracking system to check the status of your package. Once the package is delivered to the locker, an e-mail will be sent to you with a 6 digit code to retrieve the package. The thing is to make sure to pick it up within a certain timeframe. This is no storage unit! I think they give you about a week or maybe a little less. If not picked up within the timeframe given, the package is sent back to Amazon and effectively cancelled. I like this service because it allows more people to buy from Amazon that otherwise might be unable to, due to their living situation. It also seems like a safer option to use if you are concerned about a package being lost in the mail or stolen.
