My fiancé and I stopped by to pick up a new alternator for his this weekend. The prices are reasonable and as long as you bring back the part, they’ll refund the core charge. I stayed in my car while my fiancé went in but overall, he was happy with the service and says he plans to come here for any and all parts in the future. It may be a bit out of our way home wise but its close to his work so that works out. According to him though, the customer service alone is worth it.

At the local chain auto parts store: «Um, they don’t make this part for my car anymore, but the one you have in stock almost fits.» The pimply-face noob behind the counter responds, «Ya, that part is for another car. Our insurance carrier and their legion of lawyers prohibit us from knowingly selling you a different part than the computer specifies.» Meanwhile, over at Amigo’s, «Sure, just ‘Mexican it up’ with a piece of cloth hanger wire and some electrical tape and you’re good.» This place is cheap, high-volume, informal and quick to get you out of stock parts. Please don’t knock this place if you were expecting antiseptic, faux-we’re-serious-mechanics-and-would-you-like-to-buy-some-chrome-hub-caps, we’ll-hold-your-hand experience you get at the chain store. If you’re a serious home mechanic you need to learn about gems like this store.
