Hollywood Sports Paintball And Airsoft Park

I was looking for a place for our Boy Scouts to have a good time at paintball… but after reading the majority of these comments made by past customers, it seems that Hollywood Sports needs to see these reviews and to make some serious changes to their rules, policies and staff. At this time it looks like an unsafe environment.

I’ve been going to HSP for 10+ years, I feel it was a bad park then and it hasn’t gotten any better. I really want to like this place since it’s so local to me, but I’ve had numerous bad experiences here. My last recent visit here was dreadful, I won’t go into details out of respect for the few good staff members that work here. But I’ll leave with this, they simply need more staff/​refs to watch the players.

I came by here the Friday after Thanksgiving to take advantage of the cheaper admission price. While the check in process is typical and very quick my opinion of this place dropped fast. I’ve been playing paintball for over a year now and I’ve never been in a place where I had to wait around to play. I hung out to dry for 45 minutes before they started calling in for players. I know I just missed the radio call by a few minutes but if anyone is caught in between be prepared to wait around for a long time. I decided to eat the $ 20 – 30 and not complain.
Game finally started but it’s like the referees intentionally wait for the group to get excessively large, 60 people give or take 10 people. Already, we’re dealing with unwieldy numbers with really just two referees. Fine. We march into a field and that takes forever for people to shut up and file in. Everyone is drifting around because a) we waited too long and b) we generally know all the rules. Okay, the rules are being announced but it shouldn’t take you forever to pick who’s on who’s side. It would help if my referee used their outside voice because for what I can tell by the actions of other paintball players they don’t respect your authority. 20 minutes pass and we FINALLY figured out teams. You got to be kidding me… the sun has been set already.
Okay night skirmish is cool but I’ll be honest. I never called myself out even when I was shot a bunch of times. I knew with 2 referees in a large map with large teams they couldn’t enforce a thing. Each game yeah I probably died a few times but I just decided to keep playing because a lot of my time was wasted over something logistical.
End game was the worst. Referee didn’t even bother to round up straggling players at the end of the rounds so teams were often mixed up or still on the field when everyone was gone. Again, use an outside voice to say the game is over so people can get off the field properly. I don’t want to see other people wander around lost and somehow end up in an airsoft game.
I think the greatest problem with the staff here is the lack of communication across referees and staff. I got a lot of mixed answers between when will my first game start. This place really needs to train up their referees to act like they know what they’re doing. A casual voice doesn’t cut it for me. The disparity between here and Corona is insane even though they’re managed by the same darn company. Staff must communicate better and actually divvy up the teams not just ask around how big are groups. If you need to split groups then just split them. I think it’s more fun to shoot your friends in the head than teaming up with them but that’s just my preference. I don’t care if celebrities visit. It matters if they become regulars. Get your shit together and organize.

This is 1 to many stars. Where to begin. First very over priced. They have coupons that cost you more money than save you money. The staff plays games with costumers and have an unfair advantage. They take the side of the regulars when there is a problem. Super rude staff. When doing a private party they rush you through the day. The paint they sell is CRAP. It’s like getting hit with a rubber ball. Avoid coming here at all cost. Don’t waste your money.

My son wanted to play paintball for his birthday and had attended a party at this park before. I immediately googled «Hollywood Sports Groupon» and came up with a groupon. I read the fine print, it discussed all of their parks, I was buying a groupon for «California Paintball Park» which I figured meant one of the 5 mentioned. Turns out it was a park in Castaic. That could be groupons issue, it could be HSP’s issue, nonetheless, HSP let me transfer it to their park for $ 9 a player (which is still cheaper than me bribing 2 other drivers to help me shuttle boys to Castaic). The groupon was to cover 10 boys for $ 27/​ea. but I had to upgrade to buy all-​day air (which they really do need), upgrade to have an exclusive group (meaning my 15 guys could just play each other without facing random teams) coming to $ 57.10/ea. Then, the other 5 that I didn’t have a groupon for were $ 39/​ea. So somehow the groupon folks were more than the regular folks. I knew we didn’t wind up having the full 15 guys due to last minute cancellations and thankfully, the park reduced the last 2 to $ 20/​ea and we got their ammunition (500 per person) and the right to stay an exclusive group. But I’m still trying to figure out how the groupon was a good deal.
The guy checking us in was helpful and the gal at the register was cordial. Since it was our first time, I truly had no idea what to expect or where to go. We opted for the paintball soft because we had several new players and with a playtime of 4 ½ hours, we didn’t want someone to get nailed by the larger paintballs and then hate the rest of the party. The kids all got face masks and guns. Somehow, this group skipped the safety or instructional video. The fields are AWESOME! They have so many cool obstacles and hiding places. There are a wide variety of them as well from inflatable obstacles to fields that look like a movie set. I was really impressed with how the games run and the organization it takes to keep that many kinds of players and groups rotating playing. We had a really great «ref» named Ezequiel who used to be a player then was hired. He was a lot of fun and great with the guys and girl. I would definitely ask for him again when we return.
We’d gotten to the field early so we could lay claim to 3 tables for our group, and the park was fine with us bringing all our own food and drinks. I’d put food out on 1 main table and other stuff on a 2^nd table and more food on the 3^rd just in case. Suddenly while I was up on the view deck trying to watch my guys play, I turn around and a party of people had taken over our tables sitting at the two that had all of our stuff and their kids were eyeing and playfully reaching for our food. So I walked down and sat down at my table then they started bringing their ammo over so I finally spoke up saying «My guys are about to return and they have the same ammo so why don’t you take this 3^rd table.» Apparently I’m not the only one who this happened to.
Suggestion: The park should consider having cameras inside the netting to shoot video and pictures that they can perhaps email to people — based on the tracking system they wear on their wrists — because it’s hard to tell anything with action shots, plus we have a very limited view. Or even cameras that let us see better what’s going on in the fields. Also, they should consider wifi — I’d even have paid $ 5 or something for the code (they can change daily) because for the parents to sit around for 6 hours, wifi is a good thing!
Our Three-​Thumb Review gives it two and a half thumbs up. The kids both had a blast. My 15 year old son had a blast — this is everything he loves, running around and shooting. My daughter was not going to play at first but then wound up LOVING it, despite being the only girl in our group. They have sore muscles and a few bruises but are wearing them with pride for how much fun they had. I really did enjoy reading close to 75 pages of my book while the kids were running around. I love that they were so open to us taking our own food (many amusement parks force you towards their snack bar). But I think there are other parks that are «good enough» that will come in way under — even if you factor in the price of gas to somewhere else. We will return I’m sure, but only when they have a great offer — not groupon.

Because of the girl who works in the cashier she show no respect and not helpful for customer, last time I went there I paid 46 $ for everything now she said I have to pay 60 $ and I have only one hour to play but the time was 6:25pm and the app show me the place close at 8:00pm at Sunday !

I’ve played at this park for over a year. I’m the ones giving them the most money and service and I go there twice a week. But recently my 1,000 $ polarstar got stolen and for some reason they didn’t care. They told me they were looking at the cameras and when I went inside the shop 10 minutes after they said that everything was put away and no cameras were out. I asked for news on it and they said it was too dark in the tent (where it was stolen). It was 2pm… I understand it can get dark in the tents but he had to leave at some point right? They never let me see the tape because of some privacy reasons (i think that’s bs) and told me I had to file a police report. I thought that was a little overboard so I don’t even know. And they supposedly have cameras all around the park and they can’t find a guy with a big green gun bag walking to his car? If they let me see it I would’ve spotted my gun and the guy who took it in seconds. I knew everyone in the tent personally so I would’ve been able to spot anything out of the ordinary through the cameras. But I can’t see them? Keep in mind I’ve bought a 450 $ year pass and spent 100’s of $ on there over priced drinks too. And they can’t help me out on this? Really? 1,000 $?
P.S I should’ve locked it up and I was only gone for an hour and I usually do lock my stuff up but I forgot this time and I thought they had cameras? What’s the point of having cameras if you can’t even catch a guy with my obvious case walking in the bright open at 2 pm to the parking lot? They need to get there shit together. Airsofting was fun while it lasted. Thanks for fucking me out of a thousand dollars tho!

WARNING:
Fuck this place. The manager with the white hair, looks like he hates his job tried to ask us for all this extra fees when we already had a voucher. Everyone that works here has horrible customer service and had no idea what they are doing.

My son plays soccer here. I’ve actually never been paint ball shooting. But it’s seems fun, always people here. For the most part young people.

Place is alright by me! Took my teenage son and his friends here to play airsoft. The fields seem to be large. Games last around 30 mins if not longer. As far as the cheaters in the game, yes they are there and don’t follow the rules. Some shoot at close range when they are not suppose to.
Since this was our first time we rented the full face mask, gun, a dead rag. We bought tons of pellets, a little to many but will use them next time. Also, just need to be patient with the workers. I asked one about the next game and he didn’t have any answers, so I asked him who would and told me who to ask.
Got there around 4pm, got into a game around 4:45p. Place was really full at that time. Around 7pm many had left. Will be back for sure! Wear lots of layers!

My friends GF threw him a surprise bday here, so here’s my take:
If you are doing a large party of casual players, this place is ok. Despite the size (big for a paintball/​airsoft park) they are pretty efficient. It’s handy that you can rent an air-​conditioned private room. They regulate players here much more than other fields, but again probably necessary given the volume of people there.
If you play on a regular basis this place is probably not so great. FIELD PAINT ONLY (they do check, especially you are playing the super airball field) and the paint is mushy, inconsistent, expensive, and since when the heck do cases of paint come in quantities of 1600? Also you pay separately for air.
The refs and players were nice enough, made a few friends. Our personal party ref person Leslie (I think that’s how it was spelled) was friendly and helpful.
So the bottom line is you might come here once, feel kinda ripped off and probably not have any inclination to ever come back. You won’t have any terrible memories of the place, but you have any that justify the price to play either.

This place has the best paintball fields in southern California, hands down. All the different themes with all the attention to detail give this place a lot of potential in terms of fun.
Aside from the fantastic look of everything, this place has an expiration date. It’s an attorney’s dreamland! Direct liability at every single corner of Hollywood sports, truly. There was no authority anywhere. As I attempt to give credit where credit is due, let’s first deal with some real issues.
1) There was no oversight at the chronograph station. EVERYONE got their gun checked, then proceeded to pull out there allen wrenches to turn there guns up as fast as they could go. It was so blatant that they even laughed about it and wondered why I wasn’t doing the same thing. It got awkward when I called it «cheating». The refs knew about it and didn’t do anything. Not that I really care, but I don’t break the rules, why is it so accepted for everyone else? Someone will eventually get hurt and a simple lawsuit (#1) will shut them down.
2) There was no official safety/​rules meeting. There was a room with a video playing but no one told me to go there and watch it. Again, I already know the rules and I follow them, but kids ignorant of the hazards of paintball didn’t seem to be properly educated. Unfortunately, ignorance won’t save their eyes if they were to remove there mask at the wrong time, giving way to another simple lawsuit (#2) that would shut them down, regardless of the waiver we all signed that holds no weight for the defendant when you walk in to court.
3) There were signs everywhere that said we were being recorded. This gave me a little comfort because yet again, I follow the rules and don’t steal anything from others. But people still claimed that various pieces of their gear went missing. I can’t give proof to this because nothing of mine was stolen, but it was a little unsettling to hear. Just don’t leave your gear out and magically it won’t walk away.
4) Not to get political (if that’s even the right word to use) but a lot of players would wipe there hits off themselves. It happened so much that it kind of took away from the overall fun of the game. There was a lot of ego on the field. tough guys. who wanted to WIN far more than they wanted to play by the somewhat questionable rules.
5) I want to make a comment about the various gang members that were walking around the parking lot. but I don’t know how to approach that issue. I suppose it is what it is. Hollywood Sports has little to do with who roams around their premises. I can respect there approach to being fair and supporting ‘Equality’ of all kinds.
I liked this place, despite the previous issues I spoke of. Friday is the only day I would go because of the field paint requirement. I’ve had problems with the Giant Tactical paint they sell. It just breaks too easy and it’s substantially more greasy than I prefer. My Shocker RSX didn’t operate well with it… so it’s Fridays for me with my own paint.
The staff was friendly, the prices were fair, and like i said earlier THE FIELDS WERE AMAZING. Hands down the coolest looking fields i’v been to. Stay tuned for future, truthful, unbiased reviews on other paintball parks.

I do not recommend this place. Greedy bastards. Came in here with a group using the voucher and they make you buy a certain amount of paint balls and extra fees even though they did not state that.

There’s a woman with very low understanding of the word customer service. Her name is Ruth and she sounds like she has never spoken to a customer. She doesn’t listen while you are trying to speak to her. I tried to cancel a membership and it took 3 days of going back and fourth with two different sets of numbers. This Ruth woman, who everyone assured me would be the one to talk to about this cancellation was the rudest. She wouldn’t even let me talk, she kept talking over me and once I said to her «can I talk??» with a louder voice, she says :” oh no I will hang up on you” and she did, I called back to ask for a manager and she hung up on me over and over. Do not go here.

I mean if its your first time playing paintball/​air soft, go have fun! Its worth it
But when you start to think about the prices paint is overpriced for paint that breaks when you shoot too fast, they don’t allow outside paint wtf and their management just suck thats all.

My HSP review
First time at Hollywood Sports and i would have to say, it is one of the worst parks I have ever been too. Their management is terrible, the long wait, shitty attitude players (A guy confronted me telling/​cursing at me to call my hits and pointed my shoulder where «supposably» he hit me which there was nothing nor was I even touched not even a slightest red mark was on me and it was the 1^st game)
No organization, unprofessional staff, the wait again, the refs lack of common sense (they couldn’t give correct colors and directions), And from 5:12pm-9:00pm only played ¾ games. I missed the first one but still out of 4 hours only 4 games where played. Seriously? and the games only lasted 10 minutes.
I’m really disappointed never again will you see me and my group there.

GET READY TO BRUISE!
My FIRST paintball ing experience although I didn’t get to join in the activity due to my crippled body for the time being… it was definately still fun to watch all my bois have fun & be so pumped up & active like a little kid again ahahhaha
There is a bit of a process to get through before the battlefield entrance such as — (1) Signing a waiver (2) Getting the paintball & paying for entrance (3) Going through a video of all the rules (4) Getting all the gear (5) putting all the gear together & finding me a place to watch all their stuff & conviniently watch them from above in a netted area just incase paintballs come flying towards my face. All this took about an hour given we had a party of 12
There is a waiting & viewing area up the stairs where you could see all the different arenas. Below is a long hallway where they enter the arena w/​cute warning signs that I failed to capture photos of.
Staff that get all the rentals and entrance fee collectors seem a bit flustered at times but I can understand why. According to the bois the referees are fun & halarious sticking to a storyline & getting them pumped up.
The upstairs waiting area could use some cleaning though. it was dusty & paintballs everywhere.

I had my sons 10^th birthday party here on 3÷8÷15. We had a great first experience. We had our own private fields with our referee because we had over 15 players. They reserved the observation deck for us and that worked out great. We were able to bring in food and drinks.
Our referee made the experience awesome. He is known as «B». Request him if you have a party here. He was awesome! Very polite, and got us in on fields as quick as he could.
Suggestions would be: HSP needs to high pressure wash the observation deck. It’s got a funky smell up there. I think it is because of the broken paintballs on the ground. And when you go into the pro shop make sure you have everything you need before you leave the counter. This place is really busy. It didn’t happen to me but I witnessed a woman that finished her transaction and had to come back for something and one of the supervisors was extremely rude to the customer. I didn’t catch her name but she had pink or purple hair. She was rude to a lot of people. Avoid her if you can. When you get your rental equipment make sure the guns are filled up with air. When we went out on the field some of the guns didn’t work right because they didn’t have air. «B» helped us to get this problem fixed right away and we were back on the field in no time.
Bring lots of water. The kids were very sweaty and went through 2 cases water and 2 cases of Gatorade and that wasn’t enough. Also we left extremely dirty so if you care about your interior in your car bring a change of clothes. And one more thing, if you park your car along the fence of the paintball fields you will get paint splats on your car.

So where do i start, let me begin with saying every place has it’s cheater and if these cheaters where to have a year long convention of cheaterdom… it would be this at this place. The cheaters are real and if you are a honorable and seasoned player, you might get really annoyed/​mad at said cheaters. The referees need to pay close attention to the players, especially when the game is semi-​auto and players feel as if the set rules don’t need to be followed and they go full-​auto… (sigh). I my self am a MilSim player and play on Semi most of the time, but there are times i have to use Full-​Auto on said cheater and if you ever seen my set-​up, it’s bound to hurt… a lot. There are the even worse cheater that don’t call their hits. The solution based on the referees advice is to go full-​auto on them until the get out, if not, then it’s ban hammer time.
So yeah, those are the type of people to expect at HSP. But their are of-​course the more respectable players who help out others and have interesting strategies of the maps. There are 5 maps or fields that are CQB and mid range. Before coming you might want to consider a platform with high rpm and compact in size; like a mp5 or cqb m4 depending on the mag platform you want (STANAG etc.). The park closes fairly late so bring a torch and a RDS or lit recital. Snipers won’t be too useful since the minimum engagement is 25ft which is the maximum engagement distance you will have in most fire fights.
Make sure to bring food and drinks, if not there is a snack shop that sells burgers and pizza (don’t get the pizza in the airsoft shop, it’s cold). Going her is a great time to bust out those MRE’s you’ve been harboring in your garage for the past two years. Mak sure to buy lots of bb’s because you will need to visit the «FUN» switch every now and then. Oh and set-​up wise, use mid-​caps not high-​caps unless you want to sound like a maraca every time you run into a building, trust me i’ve gotten a group of players out because they sound like they are in a Congo-​line coming across the bus. So if you come to HSP, make sure the only «F» word you use is «Full-​Auto».

HSP is making some decent changes and not so decent changes for 2015.
They just started implementing Alpha and Bravo teams two weeks ago. I like it. Kudos HSP for address complaints, and going in the right direction.
The field has been more crowded than Sundays in the past (probably because it MLK weekend) but by having Alpha and Bravo, you separate the brand new players from the semi experienced players.
I played Alpha. The teams were smaller. They ref didn’t have to go over every single rule every single game. There were barely any players complaining about the pain.
I think that the refs still need to increase their communication and game plan, however. They had Alpha, Bravo, and 2 private games rotating with the paintballers. They plan to add in a Polar star team as well. This lead to us walking on the field and standing there, because refs kept claiming fields. We already played Cajun. We weren’t willing to play Cajun again, but no other fields were open.
Once this is more streamline, I think it will run great.
The main disadvantage with Alpha and Bravo is that Alpha players cannot play Bravo games, so there is more space between Combat Center games, which are better for airsoft.
Some other things I wasn’t fond of was there was too much junk tossed onto the fields, such as random pallets, which weren’t well placed. These became annoying, because you had to run around them, but they didn’t serve as barriers, and there were just too many of them, and they were not well placed.
A lot of the employees seemed undertrained/​new and took way too long to cycle players through.
Players are required to get signed on their wristbands before they line up to play on the field, but in the morning, there aren’t enough employees, and the lines are so long. The lines do not cycle through quickly, and the signing off makes it worse.
